BitTiredNow · 25/10/2007 11:39

you go to bed and come back and someone's drawn hats on all our smiles.........

oh, happy days! I live in Germany so Holsten Pils is v cheap

OK, delicate question time - what do you do about reluctant no 2s on this low carb malarkey

sorry, don't need to use so many emoticons, but quite like the hats....

mazzystar · 25/10/2007 13:16

re the number 2s - i took a psyllium husk supplement each morning, and since finishing the induction bit have had linseeds with greek yoghurt for breakfast twice a week, so its never been an issue, luckily.

am going to be the dunce of this thread today, found some more chocolate this morning.....yes, i ate it. and it was divine.

back on the straight and narrow from now on though, may have to do induction again from next week, want to be a size 12 by christmas....

Furball · 25/10/2007 14:11

you need thorntons diabetic chocolate - sugar free!!!!

BitTiredNow · 25/10/2007 21:42

what size are you now mazzy? Furball - does it taste nice?

OP posts:
mazzystar · 25/10/2007 23:30

i have binned the rest of the crap chocolate stash
from now on only 1 square of 86% cocoa per night.
am a 12-14 round the waist, 14-16 on top and 16 round the hips. i'd settle for a trim 14 all over, but a 12 would be llovely - I'm just shy of 5'8 and late thirties so think that would be a good result. have found this diet has been specially good for tummy/waist reduction! where all else had failed

BitTiredNow · 26/10/2007 15:19

I envy your figure now!!! I had a horrid ream just before I gave birth about fold and folds of skin flopping down my hips, and guess what - it's true - I now know what a tummy apron is, and it's gross >

Mazzy, you're not the only one .

Mind you, I haven't helped myself by starting this diet in the week that I have agreed to make cakes for our local drama group AND for our work's Hallowe'en charity fundraiser, so I have a kitchen full of choc cakes, fruit cakes, lemon drizzle cakes, cupcakes - I held off yesterday, but after a night of about 2 hours sleep (dd has caught the vomiting thing from nursery and was up all night ) and no breakfast as I felt a bit wobbly myself, I succumbed to a broken chocolate button. And then ate an entire packet of them, thinking that if I was going to vom, then it wouldn't count (mad logic...) - needless to say, I haven't upchucked and I know I need to eat but I just don't fancy anything... sandwiches are just too damn easy, aren't they?

My big downfall on restarting Atkins is that everything needs to be prepared, unless I'm just going to gobble cheese and ham from the packet, but in my insane logic I think no, can't do that, must make sure I eat my green veg, then can't be @rsed to prepare it, then go far too long without eating and end up pigging on carbs. Wah!

Have got to go and do front of house for said theatre group tonight, selling tea n'cakes (I must be some sort of masochist) so I need to eat soonish... can't think what, though! Aargh!!!

(sorry, now I'm just rambling inanely...)

BitTiredNow · 26/10/2007 19:03

YUCK!!!!!! > Reakky wanted a drink tonight - partly bcoz I made it through half term with all my children alive - and the only clear spirit I had was Gin, the only mixer I had was diet coke - how bad can it be? I thought

Answer:

Very

Very

Bad

BitTiredNow · 26/10/2007 19:07

hey Lovecat - if it makes you feel any better, I started reading 'chocolat' on Tuesday and then thought that was just plain masochism, so reverted back to the trusty Jodi Picoult

btn, that's how i was after i had dd in feb. stomach hadn't recovered after ds in oct 04 before i got pg with her, so i thought i would have a massive overhang for life. but this way of eating has really hit the spot, stomach is still apalling compared to pre-kids but its gradually moving towards something i can accept. never was much of a bikini girl in the first place.

the things that i have to have in my fridge are cooked roast chicken and home-made mayonnaise. if i have those i can resist all other temptations.

mazzystar · 26/10/2007 19:16

gin and diet coke

that is the action of a desperate woman

BitTiredNow · 26/10/2007 19:58

It was truly minging - worse than medised - threw it away after 3 sips......

OP posts:
Furball · 29/10/2007 08:45

how everyone doing?

I've lost 5lbs this week - so hoooray! - that included more or less a tub of pringles (once I popped I couldn't stop!!) and a whooper meal at BK

BecauseImWereWolfit · 29/10/2007 09:06

BTW - not sure about some of tori32's recommendations, especially if you're following Atkins!

Saying 'no carbs' after you've had a piece of toast is silly. You're supposed to be eating green salad/veg to make sure that you get appropriate vits/minerals - and they do have carbs in them.

And on the alcohol front, clear spirits and diet mixers are fine - carb free (although not allowed on induction) but lime cordial is full of sugar so definitely not allowed!

Best advice re constipation is to make sure that you're drinking plenty of water. The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should be drinking.

I can also recommend Thornton's Diabetic stuff if you have sweet cravings, but just beware of the polyols that they contain - they have dire effects on your digestion. But thinking about it, that could also help with your toilet problem . Their diabetic vanilla toffee is especially effective ...

Good luck to you all this week. I'm joining you having been very badly behaved on holiday and need to get very firmly back on the wagon.

prettypurpledaisy · 29/10/2007 09:08

I know I am a bit late but can I join? Started induction today, so full of water but enjoyed omelette for breakfast

Budabeastie · 29/10/2007 09:29

Magnesium supplements help with the toilet problems!

I did Atkins on the E-Diets site (now Tesco Diets) and lots 2 stone. Put it back plus another!

It is effective though.

Breakfast suggestions:

Ham and cream cheese roll-ups - slices of ham spread with cream cheese.

Smoked salmon and cream cheese.

Egg mayonaisse.

After strict induction I let myself have that heavy german bread that is full of seeds (I don't think it has any flour in it).

Drink the water, drink the water, drink the water.

Cauliflower as a mash substitute is yummy. Cook cauli as normal and then put into a food processor if you have one with lots of butter and black pepper and cream if you like and blend - delish.

We got used to curries with out rice.

I joined Tesco diets a few weeks ago to do their healthy eating plan but fell off wagon after Day 1. Am torn between the healthy eating plan and going back to Atkins. DH likes Atkins too which helps.

Bellygone · 29/10/2007 09:52

HI There, I've been given a weightlifting diet to follow from a friends body builder husband. Which is very much low carb, high protein etc... I've been doing it 3 months and lost a stone and a half so far. Down from a size 16 to a 12! So it really does work, but it was the 'definition' I am aiming for, I've been a runner for about 5 years but was still on average a size 16 with wobbly bits. So I was fed up of putting all this effort in and still jiggling when naked!

Since starting the diet, ive also been going to gym 3 times a week and its really working. ABZ are starting to form and my arms are slowly becoming rounded! If you want a celeb body, it seems you have to do the celeb diet. That said though, I have adjusted mine to suit my lifestyle, because I run a lot, I do have to have perhaps an extra bowl of porridge a day. (Good carbs) and a forbidden banana too. But generally, I have 2 slices of NIMBLE bread with 3 egg whites or 2 poached egg for brekky. Followed by half a red grapefruit (good for attacking fat cells apparently!) Then a chicken/tuna or cottage cheese salad for lunch and in the evening, 75g of brown rice/pasta or 150g jacket potatoe with chicken/lean mince/ tuna and has much VEG or salad as I can eat. In the evening if I'm really starving I have a bowl of branflakes. I also take soluble fibre, as it speeds up digestion and thus makes you lighter. And I drink about 3 litres plus a day. If I'm being really naughty, I will have a glass of OJ (not from concentrate) or a handful of raisins. I also do a long run on a saturday so I can have a few bacardi's or weight watchers wine with diet lemonade!

But I do use exercize to make up for any naughtyness. (Cant believe i am calling raisins and OJ naughtyness!) For example, if its supposed to be a running rest day but I'm going gym, I will run to the gym and back, if I intend to have a treat. (a healthy one of course) I too find that when I'm out it is hard to find things to eat but it is possible if you are 100% committed. When I go food shopping DP usually slinks off to KFC and I buy some cooked chicken from the deli counter! If I really cant find anywhere that does salad boxes or cooked meat, I will eat sandwhich meat and a yoghurt. If I know I'm running that day, I will buy a small cereal bar (oaty type - good carbs)

Lastly, phew this is long! I should have reached my goal weight by Christmas, when this happens, I will be revising my diet plan, I think the portion size can go up to 100g or something or other. But I intend to keep things balanced because i have never felt so healthy!!! Good luck everybody, will keep an eye on this thread with interest! x

mazzystar · 29/10/2007 13:43

that's interesting bellygone - i definitely need to do some firming and toning now. walk briskly with pram, sometimes a double, and often up hill, for 30 minutes everyday and its helping but i need to step it up. have a workaholic husband so could only get to the gym twice a week - at weekends, do you think its worth it?

how was everyone's weekend? it was my birthday on sunday and we went out for lunch, but managed not to eat any chips or any pudding and still enjoy myself.

lovecat · 29/10/2007 14:30

Well, dd's vomiting bug found me on Sunday night so what I ate over the weekend wasn't really an issue... (sorry, far tmi!)

Haven't had anything today except water, still feeling v. poorly. Nevertheless, I'm going to cook tonight for OH (as he could do with losing a few stone too!), have got chicken in and will do it stuffed with mozzarella, wrapped in bacon with a leek and cream sauce, with broccoli and cabbage on the side. Well, that's my intention...

Bellygone · 29/10/2007 15:26

Hi Mazzystar, yes definitely worth going to the gym even once a week, lifting as heavy as you can with low reps. (You wont bulk up, thats a myth, but this way you do the work in half the time!) And, a quick stint on the treadmill too. You will notice results much quicker and possibly get addicted!

The walking is excellent though and you could always do a few free weights at home, if you could bare it.

mazzystar · 29/10/2007 16:20

i used to love the gym, but that was, you know, back in the day when i could go 5 times per week! i even used to do circuit training too!

maybe i'll sign up till xmas and see how it goes. i like the rowing machines best, really good for bum and arms.

have no idea how i'd go about doing free weights

sorry you are still poorly lovecat, but your supper plan sounds yummy

mazzystar · 02/11/2007 20:26

hey. how's everyone doing?

lovecat · 04/11/2007 11:53

Hello, just checking in! According to my MIL's scales, I've lost 2 kilos this week (yay - have no idea what that is in old money, but it sounds good!). Have been very good and ignored cake, biscuits etc in favour of babybels (have a sabotaging SIL who seems determined she won't be the only fat one - was round there yesterday with other SIL-to-be who has just started Slimming World to lose weight for her wedding next year and she was getting quite annoyed with us that we wouldn't have any cake!)

Not managed any exercise as yet, but have felt v. energetic and been walking up the escalators at work!

How's everyone else been?

mazzystar · 08/11/2007 12:48

2 kilos - what a brilliant start!

i had a weekend of great recklessness, went out for dinner with friends on saturday and drank wine and ate some rice and some chocolate and then some other freinds came over with their 3 kids and we made chocolate brownies which were divine.

but i have been better since, haven;t put on any weight but not lost any either.

re-focussed effort and motivation required.
