From 12 stone to 10 stone by 1st January 2021

I've just tried a pair of new trousers on.

I bought a 14, as I knew I'd gained weight recently, and yet they still felt a little tight, so I stepped on the scales and discovered that I now weigh 12 stone! 12 stone! How did that happen?

Boredom, lock-downs and share-packs of Haribo, that's how it's happened. I haven't even started wolfing the Christmas goodies and mincey pies yet, either. Another few heavy munch sessions and I'll be wobbling into 2021, sobbing softly on the bed wrapped in duvet because none of my clothes fit.

Despite Christmas, and despite COVID, I'm not going into the new year as a fat bastard and then struggling all spring to lose weight. And so, starting tomorrow, I'm daily exercising and dieting and foregoing the crisps and cakes and I WILL BE 10 STONE BY 1st JANUARY 2020.

I'll be updating my vital stats weekly.. Today, they are...

5"7", 168lbs (73kg), and 40-33-41. BMI 26.3.

If anyone wants to join me, feel free to jump on board.

Hey @Puffalicious yes I think pescatarian would be fine!
As a short summary - the weight loss part of the diet is focused on no carbs, no fat, lean protein & vegetables (vegetables every other day). You also need to eat, for fibre, 1.5 tbsp of oat bran a day which you can incorporate into different recipes.
Lean protein means anything with (broadly speaking) less than 10% fat. So for you that's literally all fish apart from really fatty tuna (from memory), all seafood, eggs, and all low fat dairy.
Veggies mean pretty much all inc tomatoes but not starchy veg like potatoes, turnips etc.
Of that list you can eat as much as you like so no weighing or counting etc which I like.
Drinks - anything that complies with the above, I don't drink much apart from tea/coffee/water anyway. No alcohol due to the sugar although tbh you can get away with a gin & slimline tonic every now & then.
A typical day for me (a protein + veg day):
Scrambled egg (with smoked salmon if I'm feeling flash) on an oat bran galette (kind of like a pancake).
Lunch - chicken salad or veg soup
Dinner - stir fry with konjac noodles, low fat/sugar ice cream for dessert
Snacks - carrot sticks, fat free yogurts
You can eat as much as you like of everything so you should never feel hungry.
Average weight loss on this is about 1lb every 5 days which I've found to be about right when I follow it to the letter, even when I'm in the (upper end) of the healthy BMI range. If you're heavier you'll probably lose faster at the start.

One thing I'll say on the rules is that lot of people have a thing these days about low fat being bad, which I get - but I think there's low in fat and low fat. A lot of "low fat" processed foods in the supermarket are really high in sugar, salt and other shit. These wouldn't be allowed on Dukan because of the carbs. Dukan is about low in fat eg dairy where the fat has been removed such as low fat plain Greek yoghurt, skimmed milk, lower fat creams etc etc. The lack of fat makes the weight loss faster apparently.

Once you've hit your goal weight there's then a whole section of the diet that is aiming to maintain, rather than go back to -a massive carb fest eating normally & put it straight back on - which is what I like about Dukan vs other diets, it actually has a plan for this. In this part you reintroduce fats & carbs gradually.

If it sounds interesting I'd really recommend getting the book first and reading it - it looks long but the font is massive - you can pick up an old copy these days for £2-3, it was the diet when the Middletons did it but everyone seems to like keto these days. The book i found really helpful to describe the philosophy behind it as well as the detailed program.
Hope that helps, let me know if you want any more info! Sorry that was really long in the end!

MichelleScarn · 20/11/2020 11:00

Hi @Sn0opy l'd like to get down to 8 and a half stone so I think that's about 120lbs?

I'm really trying (like everytime!) to make this a permanent lifestyle change, cut down on the wine and snacking- literally eat less and move more!

Puffalicious · 20/11/2020 22:00

Thank you so, so much Cavagirl I think I'll find out more anyway, read thr book, then decide. You're so kind.

Cavagirl · 20/11/2020 23:00

Ah no problem @Puffalicious Like I said feel free to PM me if you want to know any more x

ImFree2doasiwant · 20/11/2020 23:04

Joining in. I'm also 5ft 7 but an absolutely horrendous 14st. I have already lost my 1 stone and had a few weeks of not really "doing it" so am stepping back up to aim for 1 stone by Christmas

MsTSwift · 20/11/2020 23:08

I did this was 11st 9 am 5 ft 6 was size 14 started last Oct 2019 by feb 2020 was 9 st 9 size 10.

Intermittent fasting
Turbo sessions most days for an hour
Meals on smaller plates
Minimised snacking
Booze weekends only

ImFree2doasiwant · 21/11/2020 18:46

That's a great result @MsTSwift. I'm 5ft 7 and can't imagine being under 11 stone tbh, let alone 9! Are you very slim/slight?

Leanandmean31 · 22/11/2020 15:30

Another suggesting that you set a more realistic target. I can guarantee you won’t lose 2 stone in 6 weeks. Maybe 1 stone is a better target but remember that you have Christmas to go too. If you set unrealistic targets you’re unlikely to stick with it so it’s much better to do something sustainable, even if it takes longer.

Also 168lb is 76.1 kg, not 73.

MsTSwift · 22/11/2020 17:34

I am now!
Was size 14 now 10. It’s noticeable acquaintances texted to ask how I did it!
I went in hard and fast seeing the weight come off was incentivising
After dinner at 7 ish I don’t eat until early lunch next day and do a cardio session first thing most days.

52andblue · 22/11/2020 18:50

I'm also 5'7 and 12st
I'd like to get down to 10st for my birthday mid Jan
but if I got there for Easter I'd still be delighted

I find no eating after 7pm (6 is better) and before 10 helps
also low / no carbs helps
i always forget to drink water
I am disabled so my step count / ability to exercise is really low

ImFree2doasiwant · 23/11/2020 09:11

@MsTSwift thats really great. My goal is about 11st. I don't know if I'm setting a half hearted or realistic goal, I just can't imagine being much under 11st. I was very very active (manual work, lots of exercise, not much food) so it just doesn't seem feasible. Ill reavaluate wHEN i get the first 3 stone off. Hmm

Sn0opy · 23/11/2020 11:01

Morning all. I've just done a 4 mile walk and feeling motivated for another week! Not been on the scales today but am quite happy with 1lb loss a week. As long as it's downwards!! Will weigh in tomorrow 👍

ThatDirection · 23/11/2020 11:30

Can I join too. I'd be happy to lose 10lbs and maintain the loss. I'm 12 stone also, and have been for about a year, although in a careful week I'll go down to 11.10, but struggle to get below that.

I actually have a lot of penny up energy at the moment and would love somewhere to direct it with a goal in mind. I was doing well with a regular sport last year but it's been disordered since the match lockdown and me having to isolate during summer and now lockdown again. If its permitted again soon, I'll need a huge dose of motivation to get me back at it during the darkest month of the year.

Like others I find the 16:8, or even 15:9 fasting works well. The later I eat in the day, the less I eat all day. It really helps to moderate my appetite, especially when wfh.

Today I will go out at lunchtime for a brisk half hour walk with the dog. And since I've eaten a slice of DDs birthday cake, I will forgo lunch and have some fruit or raw veg mid afternoon.

Sn0opy · 24/11/2020 09:10

Hi @ThatDirection it sounds like a lot of us are at a similar weight! I'm aiming for a long walk today again. Didn't go on the scales today as we were rushing out but I do feel like I may have lost a tiny bit?!

MichelleScarn · 25/11/2020 08:44

Well just did my first weigh in and have lost 6lbs in my first week, I know the first week is always a big possibility, but its shown me what the cutting out of the 10am break bacon roll, glass of wine every night with crisps and sugar in coffee can do!

MichelleScarn · 25/11/2020 08:45

Big loss not possibility. Weirdest autocorrect!!

wrensandrobins · 25/11/2020 08:46

Yes please! My stats are pretty much the same and I have completely lost focus recently! I promised myself I would end the year not obese just overweight and I'm so close I wasn't to get as far into 'overweight' as possible

Sn0opy · 25/11/2020 09:15

@MichelleScarn that's amazing, well done! I bet that has spurred you on! Good luck @wrensandrobins Smile

Juno231 · 27/11/2020 11:43

Hello can I join? I'm the same height and starting weight as OP!
My aim is to lose a stone by end of Jan though, I think that's the fastest I a can lose it! Secondary goal would be another stone by May perhaps?

RoyalChocolat · 27/11/2020 13:39

Hi everyone! I was 71.3kg this morning which means I have officially left the "overweight" category according to my BMI (24.96) Smile

Cavagirl · 02/12/2020 08:06

Checking back in, weigh in this morning & have lost exactly half a stone over lockdown! Pretty chuffed with that. Got another 10lbs to get to target but not expecting to get there by January obviously...a few more pounds would be brilliant though, aiming for 4 which fingers crossed is achievable (and allows for some Christmas cheating!)

yaboo · 09/12/2020 02:36

i thought this thread had gone, as I've been looking for it and couldn't find it and then it reappears on my list?

bah... anyway...

here I am!

Hope everyone's still on it.

week 1: I lost nothing. Was still 12 stone. I pulled a muscle in my leg merely sweeping the yard and could barely walk.

week 2: am now 40-33-40. (so lost an just an inch off my hips). Ate a few less biscuits and did a couple of exercise sessions, week 2, and have so far gone from 12 stone to 11 stone 6lbs. That's 8lbs down.

So, to the nay-sayers saying I was being unrealistic, and couldn't possibly lose 4lbs in a week?

nur-nur-ne-nur-nur.

By this time next week, I'd like to get another 6lbs off and be 11 stone again.... let's see if I can...

LaLaFlottes · 11/12/2020 10:21

Can I join in too please? I would like to shed a stone by the end of Feb.

I am veggie and am struggling to find some sort of plan - a plan helps me as it gives rules to follow and I find that easier than just trying to be good!

Any ideas?

I run 3 times a week but was thinking of adding in some Joe Wicks HIIT workouts maybe?

muddledmidget · 11/12/2020 10:26

Can I join you, I would love to lose 2st by the end of Feb to get back to a healthy BMI. Plans for this are to reduce my carbs, cut down on sugar, and use the treadmill that's cluttering up the spare room. Would love it if my clothes would actually fit again, and I lost some of my necks!

DipSwimSwoosh · 18/12/2020 16:59

Well done OP. I think maintaining that weight loss is hard.
I was 9st 7lb on 3rd Dec. I have a small frame and it was my heaviest so I resolved to lose 3lb a week until New Year. I wanted to be closer to 8st 7lb by then.
My main rule has been to stop eating after 7pm each day. Other than that I have tried to cut back on sugary snacks and alcohol, and aim to be active every day.
Week one I lost 8lb.
Week 2 I lost 4lb.
Fridays appear to be my 'cheat day' when I can eat and drink as I wish.
I am now 8st 7lb and want to maintain it, so am trying to keep up the good habits while still enjoying life!
Please don't think I'm underweight btw, I'm not. I am only 5'3" and have a small frame. I still have love handles and a tummy! My weight is usually between 7st 7lb and 8st 8lb, so to be 9st 7lb was a shock.
