Huge panic. Dress doesn't fit

Glutted · 20/10/2020 14:22

Hi all,... I've name changed for this, we have only told 7 people we are marrying in November hence I'd prefer not to be identified.

We were originally due to marry in April, my last dress fitting was end of February. We have since had 2 weddings cancelled. I've therefore not tried my dress on since February. I presumed my weight was fairly stable.... today I've tried my dress and I cannot get the dress zipper done up, I basically need to lose around 5mm from my upper rib area in the next month.

I'm 5'10", 11st 10lbs, size 12.
Generally eat fairly healthy, salads with drizzle of balsamic for lunch, lean meat and veg for dinner (none of the larger carb groups), and 2 eggs for breakfast or soya yoghurt and fruit. Snacks are normally home made peanut bites (maple syryip, peanut butter & coconut flour) or something similar nut based.

Im reaching out to you all for any tips to help me get into my dress. Im the same weight now as I was in February.

Exercise is something I could improve, walk around 10 to 15 miles each weekend. 1 mile or 2 each evening, i suffer with back ache due to slipped discs. Welcome your suggestions on change to diets and exercise.

Stop eating breakfast. People who eat breakfast generally eat 500 calories more a day. Stop all snacks. Listen to or buy the obesity code by Jason feng. Jobs à good'un.

RhymesWithOrange · 21/10/2020 06:38

Honestly your diet is fine! And I’m normally very critical. Dropping the snacks and booze while upping your exercise a bit will very likely be enough.

Really no need to go full keto or whatever.

Try the dress on again in a few days and see how it feels.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 21/10/2020 06:39

OP, what is your weight and size?

From your regular diet you absolutely are not a glutton! Unless you are eating tons of those peanut butter concoctions.

Get the dress let out.

You want to enjoy your wedding, not be fainting.

Rozbos · 21/10/2020 07:17

Form what you have listed your diet sounds very good so I would advise tracking it very closely for a week. Weigh, measure and log all your food in my fitness pal or similar and see what that shows.

That may reveal a few things that you can tweak but life is for living and if you have to starve yourself I would personally let the dress out and be able to enjoy yourself.

Glutted · 21/10/2020 07:55

Hi all, thanks for taking the time to share some politeness. I've upped my evening walk last night, will add a light yoga work out tonight or something similar which will hopefully not stir my back disc problems.

Breakfast completed. Weighed and calories logged total of 168kcals. Breakfazt is something I never skip, I find it difficult to concentrate if I skip.

Water in take will be upped today, im generally terrible at consuming plain water.

I shall try my dress on again next week to give me a little more confidence that I'm on the right road. Smile

Share some positiveness. Apologies for the error

If you are normally terrible at drinking water upping that to two litres to start and then 3 litres in a few days (yes you are going to need a wee A LOT) will probably make a world of difference in itself! If I have a few weeks of being lazy and not Sri long enough water and then suddenly my go back to 3 litres a day for a week I can lose 2-3 just because of that!

itchyfinger · 21/10/2020 09:59

Skip dinner, replace with meal replacement shakes (or just water). That's the fastest way to lose weight quickly!

UnicornAndSparkles · 21/10/2020 10:44

You're eating really healthily and the portions don't sound big at all. Id be wary of reducing too much as you may have adverse effects; headaches etc.

Have the dress taken out! Weight loss may not equate to inch loss where you need it.

Cavagirl · 21/10/2020 12:21

OP when in November is the wedding?

Do you have a feel for how many pounds you have to lose?

I agree with other PPs, if you want to drop more than a few pounds in what I assume is only a handful of weeks then you probably need to be a bit more radical than simply increasing your exercise, cutting out peanut butter & snacks. It won't be very healthy long term or sustainable but if it's just to get in the dress then you might have to suck it up.

I'd look at shakes (2 a day then protein and veg in the evenings) or something like the first phases of Dukan where it's strict protein focus with some veg.

No carbs. This includes hidden carbs like fruit, starchy veg. You need to lose water as well which high protein/low carb diet will help with.

This isn't sustainable or healthy as said but if you literally just want to quickly dump pounds and don't care if they go straight back on after then this is the way to go I'm afraid.

feelingsomewhatlost · 21/10/2020 12:47

Download a calorie counting app like LoseIt, set a goal of losing 3/4 pounds by wedding date and then follow the calorie limits until the wedding.

KissofDeathCovidBreath · 21/10/2020 15:38

It doesn't sound like you are eating a lot at all really. Have you tried a calorie tracker?

Glutted · 21/10/2020 16:13

Thanks ladies. I've downloaded the Cronimeter app as suggested by a previous helpful poster. Total calories today are 424 including lunch (half steamed chicken breast and steamed brocolli). I dont expect i will exceed 1000 calories ans still have to walk the dog, a pile of ironing and some light exercise. Portion sizes have also been reduced.

Im feeling positive about this challenge and slightly less panicked today (the thought of the dress alteration is keeping me going if needed).

HIITPrincess · 21/10/2020 18:57

That's very low calories and not that much less than what you usually eat so you can't eat much usually either.

I am always amazed how little people eat!

LeGrandBleu · 21/10/2020 19:38

@HIITPrincess it is cultural.
I am French and amazed at how much (and even more how often) people eat here in Australia.
When I lived in Paris, a Japanese colleague was amazed at how much we French ate.

Glutted · 21/10/2020 20:20

The evening meal has just pushed over 1000 kcal... a chicken curry with boiled savoy cabbage as a side.

I think the thing that usually let's me down is the wine consumption (couple of glasses a night) and maybe the nut snacks. I normally also indulge in a few soya lattes daily which have been exchanged for black coffee.

I would honestly just have the dress adjusted. Don’t put yourself under this pressure.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 21/10/2020 20:29

You could try boom bod-really helped me cut cravings and bloating

superram · 21/10/2020 21:32

You could always get one of those inch shrinking wraps-it’ll only stay off for the wedding and is just water but would work.

Cavagirl · 21/10/2020 21:33

How many weeks have you got OP? I'd give it a few days, get rid of the water and try it on again, then you'll see how much was water retention and whether it looks doable.
Do agree with PP if you've got the option to adjust it I'd really think about it. A week before if you realise you won't make it will likely be too late and you don't need that stress!

Alternista · 21/10/2020 21:37

I bloat more mid cycle than I do pre period, so it could be that?

FamilyOfAliens · 21/10/2020 21:40

This sounds a miserable way to live, OP.

Just get the dress let out. Three litres of water a day? Fuck that shit.

maryberryslayers · 21/10/2020 22:20

I'm not a fan of shakes usually but given you have a short window and would go back to normal afterwards, maybe have a look at Huel? A couple of my friends who usually eat healthily have done it and found it very quick and easy to loose a few pounds quickly without starving themselves.

RhymesWithOrange · 21/10/2020 23:39

Two glasses of wine every night? There's your problem right there 😏

carolebaskinfedhimtothetigers · 22/10/2020 07:56

3 litres is roughly 6-8 glasses (depending on glass size) which is exactly what the NHS recommend, it's really not that much Grin
