Hi would love to chat to anyone out there who has done the LL programme and maintained their weight loss. I lost 4 stone in all and finished the maintenance programme 6 weeks ago. So far am doing ok. I sometimes have a blow out on a weekend but then get back on track during the week. Would love to hear from anyone else on how thye are managing and swap tips and ideas etc.

Hi Tenney73 - firstly well done on losing 4 stone!

I finished LL at end on May - only did maintenance/management for about 6 weeks. Day to day I can maintain but I put on weight on my summer holiday and am having problems shifting that.

Although not ideal I am going to do a month of development to shift the holiday weight and lose the last few pounds that I didn't on foundation.

Did you do management?

Tenney73 · 09/10/2007 20:34

like you I finished after about 6 weeks (found it to be a waste of money if I am honest) but continued at home ok. At first really relished the idea of eating raw vegetables and an apple was like luxury but now I feel my taste buds have reverted to their old habits and am craving carbs again. Not to say I give in though. I bought a lateral thigh trainer and try and do about 15 mins on there 3 times a week infront of tv. But then a weekend is where I go wrong and we often get a takeaway and I have to be really strict the week after to make up for it. I am sure you will lose the excess weight you want to shift. How much did you say you had lost altogether?

OP posts:
dalek · 10/10/2007 11:37

At the end of foundation I had lost 3 stones - I have - put on about 8 - 10 lbs - so at the moment my overall weight loss is still over 2 stone but I would have liked to have lost about 3 and half stone in total hence the month of development.

Like you weekends can be difficult but I have also been listening to Paul Mckenna and as long as I am not drunk or pre menstrual I seem to be able to keep in check - as I said before - day to day maintenance is fine - it's shifting holiday weight and hoping not to have Xmas weight!

Tenney73 · 11/10/2007 17:17

I know! Really I need to lose half a stone befpre Christmas cos I know I will eat everything in sight. Well you have to indulge at christmas don't you

OP posts:
dalek · 11/10/2007 19:52

Yes you do! I won't be around for a week or so as off on holiday - will check in when I get back. In the meantime keep upthe good work.

Tenney73 · 12/10/2007 20:33

ok thanks. Have a good holiday.

OP posts:
dalek · 22/10/2007 13:43

Hi Tenney73. How have you been getting on. I wasn't too bad on holiday but expect to have put on a couple of pounds - problem is since I got back yesterday I can't stop eating. Off to join a development class on Thursday to shift holiday weight and last few pounds - wish me luck.

How are things with you?

Tenney73 · 22/10/2007 18:00

Glad you had a good holiday, did you go anywhere nice? I am getting to the point aswell where I just want to eat anything and everything. I have had to be really strict with myself today or else I would have eaten a marsbar and then who knows what else. Don't know about you but this seems harder than actually losing the weight in the first place. Good luck for developers tonight it will really spur you on. Think I could do with going back there. Let me know how you get on.

OP posts:
dalek · 25/10/2007 19:37

Went to first development meeting tonight - it's called "refresh" now. Paid up front for 4 weeks but you only get your foodpacks on a weekly basis. Have a few social functions over the next couple of weeks - need to decide how to plan this.

How are you getting on?

Tenney73 · 25/10/2007 22:11

I guess it's just a matter of going back to basics and trying to avoid eating anything and just sticking to soda water etc as these social functions. I think once you get your head round it you'll find it ok. I've been toying with the idea of doing it again but just for a couple of weeks cos my friend is selling some of her packs for half price but my husband thinks its a bad idea. He thinks now I've lost the weight that I shouldn't be putting my body through abstinence again. I just know that I could shift half a stone really quickly by doing it. Good luck to you anyway you'll be able to give it a good shot before Christmas.

OP posts:
dalek · 26/10/2007 10:45

I sort of understand what your husband is saying - but of course I see your point of view as well - you know it works and you know it's only for a short time.

One thng that was quite interesting last night that my counsellor was really pushing doing management - even after only a month on abstinence - haven't decided if I'm going to do that.

I am actually going to start tomorrow as one of my social functions is tonight and I can't get my head around just sticking to water tonight.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

dalek · 27/10/2007 13:50

Started today - wish me luck!

Tenney73 · 27/10/2007 15:20

All the best I am sure you don't need it though. Just about to go shopping so will chat more later.

barmybird · 30/10/2007 12:52

Hi both. Its good to know I'm not alone with this. I finished abstinence in April after loosing nearly 5 stone. I have now managed to put 10lbs back on and I'm struggling to shift it. I tried going back on to abstinence but felt so awful I gave up. I am now doing 2 food packs a day with 1 healthy meal. I'm still struggling. I don't like using the food packs as I want to manage my weight in a healthy way, to me reverting to food packs is not healthy long term (and as a single parent its not a viable option long term). I just want to get the balance right, get back to the 80/20 rule, but its hard. My life is pretty stressful at the moment, my dd just started school, I'm changing jobs etc and food is my comfort, thats a difficult habit to break.

dalek · 30/10/2007 15:17

Hi Barmybird - well done on the loss and although I don't want to sound flippant- 10 lbs isn't too bad.

Did you do management?

I understand what you mean about feeling that you;re going backwards if you go back to foodpacks - I feel a bit like that but I know it works. Hopefully I won't need to go back to foodpacks once I've finished development.

Good luck.

barmybird · 30/10/2007 21:55

Hi dalek. Yep I did do management in a fashion! I'm a single parent so couldn't always get to the group so I missed bits here and there.

I know 10lbs isn't alot and in many ways I'm quite calm about it. I do see this as part of my learning process. I have to learn to manage this for life (is that a negative parent message ? ) what I mean is I want to manage this for life and my logic says that keep going onto a very low calorie diet will in the end bugger up my metabolic rate etc. (I may be completely wrong about that!) I want to get back to and stay in healthy habits and thats what I'm struggling with at the moment.

Its hard. I bought one of those little bottles of wine tonight and I feel like I did quite well doing that. I wanted a drink so limited myself, previously I would have drunk an entire normal sized bottle but I know my cousellor would argue that I maybe could have had no wine whilst I tried to shift this weight but that for me won't work, I would feel deprived!

I just want to stay slim!

dalek · 02/11/2007 09:43

Well I went to my first weigh in last night - lost 4.8 pounds!

Do need to drink more water though

Tenney73 · 02/11/2007 09:50

Sorry been away for a few days but well done dalek thats brilliant!Keep up the good work. I know what you mean about the water though during lighter life I used to force myself to drink more because my councellor told me that you would lose more weight the more water you drank. Now I hardly touch the stuff which is bad really, I need more discipline. But well done you, and good luck for next week.

OP posts:
dalek · 02/11/2007 17:56

My counsellor says the same - even in foundation drinking all of the water is the part I struggled with - and my body never got used to it - always had to get up in the night to wee - it was just like being pregnant! Although the week that I drankthe most water was the week that I lost the most wight - apart from the first week - so I think there's something in it.

barmybird · 02/11/2007 20:43

Well done dalek. I'm still struggling here. I can't stop eating, whats that all about?? I know I shouldn't and I'm so proud of what I have achieved yet here I am stuffing food in I'm seeing my counsellor tomorrow so will have a chat with her.

Kalooooooooooooooooooo20 · 02/11/2007 20:54

I did LL 3 years ago and since then despite my best efforts have regained the weight. Every person on my course has regained more than 2.5 stone.

Post LL your glycogen levels are screwed up and every big of food you eat is 'saved' in case of starvation again, hence you pile on the pounds very quickly and they are very hared to shift

Consultants like you doing management as it is money for old rope - trust me, I did the counsellor interviews

Tenney73 · 02/11/2007 21:29

I know someone who did lighter life about 3 years ago aswell and she has managed to maintain her weight well. One of my ex work collegues did it though and put her weight back on but she went back to eating how she ate before. I think for me it will be an ongoing battle but I have changed my eating habits and I won't go back to that person I was before (I hope!)

OP posts:
barmybird · 03/11/2007 14:37

oh Kalooooooo20 thats not what I need to hear! after all diets there is a risk that you will regain weight but surely the whole point of LL is that they are much more focused on trying to help you avoid this.

I'm feeling better today after a good chat with my counsellor this morning. Hopefully I am back on track with the two packs a day and a healthy meal to try and shift the weight I have regained. Fingers crossed it works!

dalek · 04/11/2007 12:06

Kalooooooo20 - I would be very interested to hear more about the glycogen and the management!

On a positive note LL has got me to where I want to be relatively quickly and it's up to me to maintain it - I realise it's not the healthiest way to lose weight but needs must but i do worry about health isuues and buggering up my metabolism for good.

I am interested to hear both parts of the story so any light you can shed would be very useful.

Barmybird - good luck
