Joe Wicks 90 day plan hasn't work for the second time round.

MsSiriusLupin70 · 30/08/2020 15:20

I've been doing joe wicks' 90 day plan for a while.

I started in April and finished in July. And at the end weighed 8lb heavier then when I started. After kicking up a fuss and endless unhappy emails to the "Support heroes". They sent it to me a second time, free of charge.

I've just finished my free second go at his plan. Followed it to the T and I'm now fatter and I weight a st heavier then when I started in April. I go out hiking and walking and do his exercises 5/6 times a week atm. So I'm active. Yet instead of weighing 9st like I wanted by October, I weight 12st 5. I started at 11st5. So as you can tell I'm not happy.

Surely this isn't how his plan is meant to work.

My mum has said to me at the start of the second go: "if it doesn't work this time round then move away from Joe Wicks as it obv didn't work and isn't for you"

Im thinking about going to Greg Wallace' Showme.fit plan. Or back to Slimming World.

I'm just at a loss. I feel fat currently and although feeling stronger. I'm not happy with how I look. And all I got told by the SH is "trust in the plan". And i can't if it's made me gain weight.

I know I know a lot of people have done well and I'm happy for them but what about people like me who haven't done so well on his plan.

Thanks x

What calories does your average day add up to? Including drinks and snacks? You need to create a deficit that your body responds to. I have to eat about 1200 to lose weight unless I'm willing / able to do some proper exercise too.

pinkbalconyrailing · 30/08/2020 16:34

does the plan mention something likd 2000cals daily for a woman?

that would be way too much for me (middle age, healthy bmi, moderately fit). I need fewer than 1700 to loss weight.

RedCatBlueCat · 30/08/2020 16:37

4 meals and 2 snacks a day?

Apolloanddaphne · 30/08/2020 16:37

You must be eating too much for your body to lose weight. Like the PP said, cut out the snacks and see how it goes?

CherryLicious · 30/08/2020 16:46

What is the basis of his plan? Is it calorie counting? Is it keto?
I can lose 2lb a week sticking to 1200 calories a day. That's really 3 very small meals and no snacks whatsoever. 7 days a week. No exceptions. Counting everything including milk in coffee etc. I can't imagine a diet where you can eat as much as you can manage, including carb loading, and save leftovers for later.

The only snacks you're allowed on his plan is stuff like 1 apple or 1 piece of fruit Banana nice cream Trial mix Apple and peanut butter (yum) Jelly and yogurt mixed together and left in the fridge.

That's all I have and if I didn't have a snack. If by hungry as anything.
I'm already hungry even when I've had all 3 meals and 2 snacks 😂

No. Only three meals and two snacks allowed a day.

I paid for his plan and haven’t stuck to it. It just doesn’t make sense to me. One of the smoothies I put in my fitness pal and it comes to 700 calories! For breakfast! I couldn’t finish it and found it quite repetitive. I can understand not going crazy low on calories if you’re exercising but the 30 minutes a day just wasn’t enough exercise for me to work off the mountains of food I was eating. I think his plans just aren’t tailored enough. I pay more now for a PT and am getting similar advice to the joe wicks plan in terms of exercise and nutrition but it’s working because it is tweaked constantly to my needs.

Apolloanddaphne · 30/08/2020 16:55

Basically this the wrong diet plan for you. Try something else. There are loads of goods plans and threads on here to get you started and they won't cost you anything.

Lurkingforawhile · 30/08/2020 16:55

I think it's fairly accepted now that the same diet and exercise plan doesn't work for everyone. Whether it's to do with microbes or metabolism or something we don't know. I can imagine it must be incredibly frustrating and upsetting, so if it was me I think I would stop. I think the definition of madness they say is doing something the same and expecting a different result. Possibly just chalk this one up to experience and try some other options. I know some people have had success on slimming world and some people found that it didn't work for them either. Good luck

CherryLicious · 30/08/2020 16:56

I think you do get hungry when you first cut your calories down... but you do get used to it and stop feeling so hungry after a week or two. You can't really hope to eat big meals and snacks, and not ever be hungry AND lose weight!
What have you changed in your second attempt at the plan? If you put a stone on the first time, you must realise that the same plan wouldn't have a different effect the second time?

joeysapple · 30/08/2020 17:10

I absolutely love the Joe Wicks plan and have had great results on it in the past but I would be gutted if I'd gone up a dress size. If you get on with the food maybe try cutting the portions by 10% for a couple of weeks?

Weight loss is simple - you need a calorie deficit. His plan works on a very small deficit because you're supposed to be gaining lean muscle. I suppose this means the margin of error is small.

Actually I only put on 8lb the first time round and I've upped my exercise to an hr each time and I have had help from my mum with portion sizes and not eating before I go to bed. And going to be earlier.

I don’t think that many people are familiar with his plan; OP.

He provides a “tailored” food and exercise plan, doesn’t he? And then you do check ins? I did an older version of it. So theoretically, it should all be matched to you and if you’re not editing the recipes, or eating more than he’s given you, or skipping workouts; you should be losing weight...

I’d go back to the support people but to be honest it doesn’t sound like a good match for you. There was an unofficial Joe Wicks plan Facebook group when I did it, where people tried to help each other out. It could be worth seeing if that’s still around, I know it struggled because people kept sharing their plans...

Beautiful3 · 30/08/2020 17:20

I had the same problem, exercise was not helping me. In the end I started the 5:2 fasting diet, (the other days I eat within my calorie limit on my fitness plan). This has been the only thing that's helped me lose weight. There's fasting threads on here, that are helpful.

CodenameVillanelle · 30/08/2020 17:23

Trail mix? Parmesan? Coleslaw? Peanut butter???

All those things CAN be included on a calorie controlled diet but in small quantities and infrequently. I think you've just been over eating on calories and have created an excess rather than a deficit. You don't actually need joe wicks to tell you what to eat, just a free calorie counting app.

justanotherneighinparadise · 30/08/2020 17:28

Although I don’t know the plan I do often wonder whether certain weight loss plans are really great for a sub sect of people but absolute crap for others. Ie young fit men might get excellent results from a certain WOE but older females might really struggle to see results.

Personally I would steer you towards the Fast800 for a really quick way to lose weight and feel much better. You can get that stone off in a month and still stick to Joe Wicks’ exercise plan.

newnameforthis123 · 30/08/2020 19:09

OP how many calories are you having a day on the Joe Wicks diet?

SunshineCake · 30/08/2020 19:22

I struggle with losing weight. Various plans helped me lose a stone then got stuck. Then I got ill am doing put two stone on.

Currently doing intermittent fasting, running every other day and cycling every day. So far lost about 11 lbs since May with the biggest loss coming since I really stepped up the running distance.

I don't calorie count. I eat lunch 12.30-1pm, snack at 3, dinner at six, fruit at 7.30pm.

wowfudge · 30/08/2020 19:51

The only way to lose weight is to be in calorie deficit. Find a calculator online to get your TDEE then count the calories on this Joe Wickes plan using My Fitness Plan. If you're not in deficit, there's your answer. You have to weigh and measure to everything to be accurate - with MFP you can scan barcodes on lots of food to simplify things.

Yes me too... I put on 4 pounds after my 90 days. What a joke. I’d never do it again or recommend it To anyone though.

Dashel · 31/08/2020 15:10

I agree to check the portion sizes and whether your scales are accurate when it comes to nuts and cheese weight makes a massive difference.

Also are you drinking anything calorific? DH went made for flavoured water that was 200 or300 calories a bottle. How many steps are you doing as if you are only doing 5000 you won’t be loosing any where near as much as15000 steps

Loseastonein21years · 31/08/2020 18:15

OP how much do you weigh now? I think that is relevant. If you were underweight some of it could be muscle gain and increased nutrition. It’s very different having a 14 stone person gaining from the plan to having a 7 and a half stone person doing the same.

Weight loss is about a calorie deficit. All diets boil down to this although ones like low carb reduce hunger making it easier to stick to. Still need a deficit though.

My personal view of JW is that it’s a bit of a con. HIIT isn’t good for overweight people as it can damage the joints yet he promotes it to all. It doesn’t seem particularly sustainable either and requires a lot of meal prep. However, from what I have seen of the diet, an overweight person should lose weight on it which is why I asked if you were overweight to begin with and what you were expecting results-wise.

The only long term sustainable solution is a moderate calorie deficit and sufficient activity (but this can be walking rather than burpees). That’s what I have been doing for nearly 5 months and I’ve lost 37 lb so far. It’s slow and steady but my fitness levels are great now and I never feel deprived because I don’t cut anything out.

Loseastonein21years · 31/08/2020 18:17

SORRY OP, that was my bad! I just saw that you did put your weight in there. I missed it. You should def have lost on the plan and seems unlikely that it’s all muscle.

I’d ditch it if I were you. MFP and a pedometer is my solution but obviously there are lots of other diets out there too. Good luck!
