900 calories a day

BroadDaylight · 19/06/2020 19:39

I run around 100 miles a month and do a 30-minute HIIT three times a week, and 15 minute dumbbell workout every morning.

I eat healthily, no junk food, nothing processed and cook from scratch. I log my food and my daily calories are between 1200-1500 a day but I'm just maintaining, even with exercise.

I am still a stone (maybe a little more) overweight and it's making me depressed. I can't shift it.

I've read that because of my height (5'1) I need to reduce my calories to 800-900 per day, has anyone had success this way?

Oh thank you OP! I'm like you though, exercise is for my mental health as much as anything else, so if running is your jam then don't lose sight of one of the main reasons why you do it, in the quest for weight loss.

I'm lucky in that I'm tall, I can automatically eat more than a small person just because of that. It's not fair really.

Eckhart · 20/06/2020 21:34

Burpees! They're brilliant and can be adapted to any ability level.

BroadDaylight · 20/06/2020 21:40

Ohhh but burpees are evil! Ha. I fully expect maybe that means I really will benefit from them! Thank you.

I would up your protein, and fats, eat less carbs.
Also gradually increase the weight your lifting, and cut back on cardio
If you keep on lifting weight that you can easily lift, you are essentially doing more cardio and it won't give you the results you want.
You are not over weight, but could do with building muscle
See it as a long term goal, and enjoy the feeling of what your body can do

@BroadDaylight

For you

justanotherneighinparadise · 20/06/2020 22:39

I’d love to know what that Love Island girl has done to achieve her amazing figure. I think her name is Alexandra. Her post weight loss figure is similar to mine now but she looks completely fantastic now. Really sculpted.

BroadDaylight · 21/06/2020 07:03

@BIWI oh that is fab! And so true Grin

I COULD HAVE WRITTEN THIS!!

Firstly, I feel you, I hear you, your frustrations are valid and your bodies plateaued, incredibly annoying!!

  • Cut our salt.
  • Cut your carbs!
  • Have a cheat/gauge day then return to your restricted calories and intermittent fasting.
  • Have two fast days a month! This will also help your metabolism.

I have some concerns though.

  • Over how long have you been dieting? You’re meant to naturally plateau after three months anyway, everybody does!! If you’re eating less than you put out, you will loose weight just be patient.
  • You’ve repeatedly been asked your weight and you haven’t answered, I run as much as you and live off 1000kcals a day, giving myself the odd weekend off every now and again.
You sound obsessive and quite frankly some of the things you’ve said has raised alarmbells..

Have a break - learn to love your body first. No amount of weight loss will help you love yourself.

acatnamedfox · 21/06/2020 09:56

*lose

Sorry everyone..

Grammar police gunna get me..

acatnamedfox · 21/06/2020 09:57

Okay, I’ve just reached page six where you mention your weight and measurements.

I apologise, please forgive me Flowers

SerenDippitty · 21/06/2020 10:04

Have you tried resistance bands? I’ve been doing an RB workout daily for a couple of weeks and already noticed a difference in my stomach.

BIWI · 21/06/2020 11:00

@acatnamedfox

This simply isn't true.

Watch the video linked to by @NathanNathan and you'll understand why it's not true. 'Eat less/move more' aka 'calories out must be more than calories in' is what will guarantee the plateau - which is why it's not only wrong, but bad advice.

WinnieWonder · 21/06/2020 12:09

@BroadDaylight You've been bombarded with advice here so no doubt you'll ignore more here! But you mentioned eating less but more often and protein. That's good but don't aim to eat more often.

You're obviously eating well and exercising so insulin resistance could be your problem.

Go strict Keto for two weeks or so. Guarantee you it will increase your insulin sensitivity.

I'm doing lazy keto now and when I plateau I'll do another 36 hour fast. Understanding what's actually going on with the hormones that control hunger really helped me get behind myself.

randomer · 21/06/2020 16:00

some will likely now say I'm clearly obese and should loose 5 stone immediately

Please OP, I am an oldie now. I wasted my youth dieting and worrying. At 9 stone, I'm sorry but you sound unwell. Please talk to a therapist.

BroadDaylight · 21/06/2020 17:27

Wanting to reduce potentially dangerous abdominal fat for my self esteem and health doesn't feel disordered?

Really appreciate the advice from everyone,

(even if its conflicting at times...) I feel positive and have worked out a good 40 min routine of free weights, strength, abs, burpees etc that I can do every morning, and will run 4 times a week instead of 6.

I'll eat a bigger breakfast and less for dinner, eat clean and stick to a balanced 1200kcal a day. Fingers crossed! :)

randomer · 21/06/2020 18:26

You weigh 9 stone, you are I think 5' 1", your BMI is good, how For the Love of God is your abdominal fat "dangerous" Please , if you don't trust me go to the GP

Who are you trying to impress?

Tzigane · 21/06/2020 18:56

Abdominal fat around the organs is implicated in diabetes and heart disease.

OP has done really well. But at 5 ft 1 she's at the upper end of the healthy BMI. I'm 5 ft 4, 8 stone and I'm not skinny. It won't do her any harm to lose the belly.

BroadDaylight · 21/06/2020 19:05

That's it, Tzigane, I'm really at the top end BMI wise. I could actually another lose two stone and still be in the healthy range.

My family has a history of preventable illnesses that are linked to abdominal fat, so it really needs to be reduced.

I might not be obese anymore which is great but I still have a way to go. :)

OP posts:
Tzigane · 21/06/2020 19:35

You certainly don't need to lose 2 stone. But I understand why belly fat annoys you because it annoys me too. I'm an apple shape so if I put on weight it goes on my tummy.

BIWI · 21/06/2020 19:39

I'm not sure what you're so panicky about @randomer.

@BroadDaylight is quite right to be concerned, given the link between abdominal (visceral) fat.

And at only 5ft 1in, 9 stone is pretty much at the top of the range for her weight to be deemed 'healthy'. If her BMI was to just increase by 1 point she would be classified as overweight.

In fact the acceptable, i.e. healthy, range for someone of her height is from 7 stone to 9 stone 6.

There is no way that the OP is 'unwell' if she wants to lose a bit more weight. And to suggest that she has to see a therapist is, frankly, risible!

BIWI · 21/06/2020 19:41

Sorry - missed a bit out:

'given the link between abdominal (visceral) fat and various diseases'

From Healthline.com:

carrying excess visceral fat increases your risk for developing several serious long-term, life-threatening medical conditions. These include:

heart attacks and heart disease
type 2 diabetes
stroke
breast cancer
colorectal cancer
Alzheimer’s disease

BroadDaylight · 21/06/2020 19:48

I'm an apple shape so if I put on weight it goes on my tummy.

Apple shape describes me perfectly - I have narrow hips, fairly (ish) lean legs but tummy area is very chubby, and athough the skin may not be tight which makes it look worse, there's a lot of subcutaneous fat there - of course I'm concerned about additional visceral fat that I can't see, too.

BMI is a great tool as a very loose guide but I think if my body fat were tested, it would actually put me in the overweight category still.

If I posted a pic, everyone could clearly see that I do, indeed, need to lose a little more! But onward and upwards :)

OP posts:
BIWI · 21/06/2020 19:55

... downwards, surely?! Wink

randomer · 21/06/2020 20:35

Panicky? no. Come off it with the faux concern.

Visceral fat problems....er no.

OP pop along to your GP and chat about visceral fat.

randomer · 21/06/2020 20:36
