3 stone to lose

F1r3fly · 22/02/2020 10:02

I have 3 stone to lose, starting today. I’m not following a particular plan but reducing carbs, (though will still eat some at breakfast), generally smaller portions, less snacking, less sugar. Anyone else doing similar?

Yes. I intend to cut out the sugar and the general crap. Hoping to lose at least 3 stone.

MusicToMyEars800 · 22/02/2020 10:06

I will join, I was doing so well, I dropped from 89.9kg to 83.1kg by eating 3 small meals a day, fasting 2 days a week and doing 50 burpees everyday, I have had a few off days where I’ve not exercised but I haven’t really fallen off the rails with food, I weighed myself this morning and it says 84.3 kg Sad so I need to jump back on the strict exercise boat again.

MusicToMyEars800 · 22/02/2020 10:07

I find the fasting does wonders, it is hard to start with but gets easier.

I have been really struggling with cravings this week I have to say.

borowren · 22/02/2020 10:17

Me! I'm on day 3. I have 3-4 stone to lose. Similar eating plans...minimal carbs, no snacks but regular meals.
Experience tells me I'll do well for a couple of weeks, lose half a stone then fall spectacularly and end up back at square one (+2 or 3 lbs!)
It'd be great to go forward with support...and a bit of accountability.

MockneyReject · 22/02/2020 10:40

Yep, 3st to shift, here. I weighed myself two days ago, and that shocked me in to action.

Over the last few years, I've developed terrible eating habits. Up at 6, nothing but milky/sweet coffee until about 2pm, then just eating piles of toast and crap from the pack-up box, Domino's after school/before clubs, then coke/chocolate/ice cream slumped in my chair mooching about on Mumsnet!

So far, I've switched to nicer coffee, so it's ok black.
I have a stash of instant Miso soup paste for when I want a salty snack hit and have started having breakfast - flax/oatmeal porridge. I'm making that with coconut milk, so that I'm not tempted to pour golden syrup all over it.

I reckon MFP will make all the difference - I just didn't realise how many empty.calories I was eating.
And portion control. I've completely lost sight of what's reasonable.

(Sorry to posters who've seen my similar posts on other threads - I'm a bit over excited about all this-which will probably be my downfall...)

Ledkr · 22/02/2020 10:48

I'll join too.
I've really fallen into some crap eating habits and am comfort eating like crazy.
I feel sick if I fast so in going to use MFP and try to eat normally again, by normally I mean like a regular person and not supplement my meals with cake and sweets 🙄
I eat mostly veggie cos dh and DD are so meals are good it's the bits in between that aren't 😓

Parsley65 · 22/02/2020 12:07

Just wanted to say that this was me last summer.

Serial dieter all my life. Comfort eater.

Finding out that I had the early stages of osteoarthritis (I'm in my early 50's) gave me the kick I needed.

One day a week I fast. 3 days a week I eat two sensible meals (sandwich, pasta, fruit) and at the weekends I allow myself treats (wine/pud.)

Half a stone to go and feeling on top of the world. Please believe in yourself. If I can do it, you can too.

Good luck Thanks

PinkGinAndTacos · 22/02/2020 12:09

What kind of timeframe are you looking at?

MumOfDiamonds · 22/02/2020 12:25

Hi, I have around 4 stone to lose but I'd love to have lost 3 stone by mid-July. Its my sisters birthday and that's my goal to get in to a size 14 dress again!

I've downloaded nutracheck (lost 4 stone with this in 2013) and I've started walking/jogging on the treadmill.

MockneyReject · 22/02/2020 12:27

I'm a similar age to Parsley. And really feeling it in my knees/elbows/back.
What exercise, other than swimming, do people with dodgy knees do?
I was cycling 5-8 miles a day, about a year ago, for 10 weeks, but nothing. No weight loss. I only did that because I was temporarily car-less. I don't like exercise. Plus I'm always knackered. Because I'm unhealthy...

MockneyReject · 22/02/2020 12:28

Meant to say, thank you for posting, Parsley. It's encouraging.

Forrandomposts · 22/02/2020 12:34

I'm on about week 6 I think and started off with 4 or 5 stone to loose. Have lost 1.5 so far!

I've cut processed or big cards out (no bread, pasta, rice etc) but not concerned about hidden carbs in veg etc like Keto is. I eat good big meals just with loads of veg, fat and protein, and have had chocolate most days! I'm also doing couch to 5k but taking it slow and repeating weeks.

There's a couple of other good threads running on here it might be worth joining - the 'is anyone you for getting their shit together one' and 'I've just realised in 20 stone one'

F1r3fly · 22/02/2020 13:42

Wow, great response! Sounds like we are all in the same boat. Be good to have some support on this journey. I’m not aiming for a particular timeframe but quickly as possible would be good!

For those who fast, I applaud you. I have tried in the past and fail by lunchtime. Tried all sorts of diets which have ended in failure, hence this time trying to take a more moderate sensible approach. I’ve hidden the scales and plan to weigh weekly as I am a serial daily weigher-not helpful.

Well done to all who have lost already, that’s great and motivational for the rest of us just starting and thank you for the kind encouragement Parsley65, hopefully we’ll be able to offer someone the same encouragement in a years time!

Today so far I’ve eaten a big ish bowl of plain natural yoghurt with chopped strawberries and a chicken salad with 2 slices cheddar for lunch.

I need to exercise like some of you do, but use the excuse that I have a busy life and evenings as the only time (when I feel tired-not helped by carrying the extra weight!) so I sit on the sofa instead. This is another aim, try to increase general activity levels!

Hope everyone is doing well so far and let us know how you are getting on.

How is everyone doing?

For the rest of yesterday I had a bowl of yoghurt and mango, 2 squares dark chocolate (85%), chilli with broccoli rice instead of normal rice & 2 glasses of red wine. Okay the chocolate and wine are not great, but pleased I managed to get through the day without eating a lot of processed carbs!

borowren · 23/02/2020 09:58

All good yesterday, despite having the family round for a meal last night. Stayed Carb free except fruit.
Have discovered a pudding substitute which worked well. Frozen fruit blended with Greek yoghurt. If done when the fruit is frozen (I use a stick blender) it makes a kind of soft ice cream. Really helped me stay on track last night as everyone else was finishing their meal with syrup sponge and custard!

F1r3fly · 23/02/2020 10:48

Well done Borowren! That’s great willpower!
The frozen fruit and Greek yoghurt sounds lovely- definitely going to try that.

Alicay · 23/02/2020 16:14

Forrandom, like the sound of your plan. Would you mind giving a bit more detail? Typical day? Thanks!

MockneyReject · 23/02/2020 18:02

I just went swimming! For the first time in 2 years, hence also the first time post menopause. It actually took me longer to shave my legs, also the first time in 2 years, than I was in the pool for, but it's one hurdle down 😊

I'm pretty surprised just how much my knees have deteriorated. Whether that's age/menopause/the extra weight, I'm not sure.

Resisted the vending machine and came home to a well earned slimfast (bought as a standby). Otherwise, I'll be going to work hungry and that's dangerous for me, as in getting in and grabbing whatever is easiest (toast/DS's pack-up stuff).

Onwards and upwards, all.

Back to work is a challenge for me (I've been off over half term)
I have a tendency not to eat during the day and then end up binging from 5pm onwards. I know it's a pattern I need to change so preparation will be key!
Planning to try and do a combination of batch cooked soups, leftovers and salads as a back up.

F1r3fly · 23/02/2020 19:40

Well done Mockney! That’s a real achievement. I’m the same going swimming-takes me much longer to get prepared! I hope your knees improve with the swimming.
Resisting the vending machine is always an achievement after swimming too! I know exactly what you mean about just grabbing stuff to eat at work, I’ve made a frittata today to take with me. Hoping this will keep me away from the snacks and unhealthy carbs!

Farrondom, is also be interested to hear more about your diet!

F1r3fly · 23/02/2020 19:52

I think preparation is key for me too. I just eat on the go instead of preparing what I’m going to eat the night before. But onwards and upwards- we can do this!
Do you have breakfast borowren?
Food today I’ve had-plain yoghurt and strawberries, mushroom omelette with 2 slices cheddar, 2 squares dark chocolate, 1/4 mango, 2 sausages with a small jacket and broccoli. I am not having bread, rice, pasta, but am allowing myself potato as doesn’t seem to affect me in the same way carb wise.

MockneyReject · 23/02/2020 21:55

I'm back at work properly, tomorrow.
I don't eat breakfast, because I'm just not hungry until about 10-11. I tend to work 8-2, without a break, by which time I'm too hungry and knackered to make decent choices. I've been on annual leave, this week, so have been having the bran porridge at about 10. I honestly don't know if I can stomach anything before work, though. That's why I got the slimfast in. My sort of plan is to have one before work, or take it with me, to fend off the 2pm slump/desperate free for all.

MockneyReject · 23/02/2020 21:57

So, borrowren, it seems we have a similar challenge.

borowren · 24/02/2020 18:20

@MockneyReject How did you get on?
I didn't attempt breakfast. Took homemade chicken and veg soup for lunch, some Greek yoghurt mid afternoon then managed to get home for bolognaise with vegetables instead of spaghetti.
I've stocked up on Diet Coke for my moments of temptation...
I just wish low/no carb instant food was easier...I don't know how long I'll sustain this level of preparation!
