3 stone to lose

F1r3fly · 22/02/2020 10:02

I have 3 stone to lose, starting today. I’m not following a particular plan but reducing carbs, (though will still eat some at breakfast), generally smaller portions, less snacking, less sugar. Anyone else doing similar?

Hi borrowren,
I had a banana at 11ish and a cup of Miso soup and a hard boiled egg when I got in at 3ish. I didn't feel the usual 'crash' then, but am quite lethargic, now. And need to nip out to do an hour's work. So am having another cup of soup, with 3 TUC biscuits. I'm considerably more impressed by your food than mine!
I'm hoping to kick start the weight loss with VLCD, then add more protein, in relation to carbs when I've worked out how! MFP is telling me I'm getting too large a proportion of my daily intake from carbs/sugars.
I don't eat meat and largely avoid dairy. I only had the egg because I was given some from rescued hens, so no/low carb is going to be difficult for me.

How do you feel? I'm not sure I'm any more lethargic than I usually am by this time, really.

MockneyReject · 24/02/2020 18:41

In terms of preparation, the Miso paste sachets are great - squeeze it in to a cup, put a pinch of dried seaweed in and place under the hot water dispenser! I work locally, so can sometimes ppop home for 10 minutes, so they're perfect for then. I usually have a Tassimo latte 😊

ChicChicChicChiclana · 24/02/2020 18:43

Hello. Would like to lose 2.5 stone, 3 would be a bonus. Definitely need to lose 1.5 to 2 stone.

Am doing the No S diet.

Expecting it to take at least a year, more like 2. So am in it for the long haul Grin.

MockneyReject · 24/02/2020 18:47

I replaced alcohol with Diet Coke about a year ago and have now replaced that with this sparkling cider vinegar juice stuff. The fact that it's in a bottle and comes from the fridge makes it as good a substitute for a cold beer/cider/wine as anything.

MockneyReject · 24/02/2020 18:54

Hmm, not sure if I'm posting multiple photos or not.

Hi Chic,
I think I'm too impatient to think about a year - though, of course, all the evidence points to that being the healthiest way and the one most likely to keep the weight off.

borowren · 24/02/2020 18:55

Low carb without meet or diary must be very challenging @MockneyReject
I feel ok. Low carb really works for me...less hungry than normal eating. I just struggle to stay on track because all the food I love is Carb heavy!

borowren · 24/02/2020 18:56

@ChicChicChicChiclana I think I've heard of the no S diet, but remind me of the rules?

ChicChicChicChiclana · 24/02/2020 19:31

No S diet:

No snacks, no seconds, no sugar. Except on special days (say a birthday or special celebration), Saturdays and Sundays.

In other words - reign it in during the week, let go a bit at weekends.

I don't find this a difficult prospect as I don't have a sweet tooth so very rarely eat sweet things. I'm also fine without snacks as long as I meal plan properly and have a nice satisfying healthy lunch and dinner every day.

F1r3fly · 24/02/2020 20:10

Evening all, just catching up on the updates, sounds like everyone is doing great sticking to it. I know what you mean about the prep-I’m rubbish at prepping food but trying to keep it simple.
And welcome Chic, the No S diet sounds good! I’m a bit all or nothing and not sure I could trust myself to indulge at a weekend, I find it hard getting back on track.

I’ve been alright today to be honest. Cutting the big carbs I seem to be less hungry. I had some plain yoghurt and peaches for breakfast then genuinely wasn’t hungry till 2pm (unheard of!), then ate my frittata, a cappuccino, then late afternoon had a little yoghurt and mango, dinner was chicken in a roasted veg sauce with broccoli. Trying to drink more water, less Diet Coke where I can (I do like a Diet Coke!).

Aaagh, I'm struggling.

Yesterday, I ate stupidly badly. 272 kcal, mostly carbs and not nearly enough protein. I woke up with a headache, this morning. It's my day off so I nipped to Tesco after the school run. Picked up cauliflower rice, sweet potato ribbons, edamame beans, nice 'forestiere' mushrooms and tinned lentil soup (the only kind DS will eat) Oh, and wholemeal wraps. Oh, also some vege/soya sausages (165kcal for 2).

But I just don't know what to do with it. I've lived in this crappy little flat, above a row of takeaways, with half a square meter of worktop space for sibling that I've forgotten how to make meals!

Additionally, DS was disappointed that he didn't have his usual Monday takeaway, so I've said he can have it tonight. So, there will be cartons of my favourite foods in the house - pilau rice, sag paneer, lentil Dahl and chupatis. Any ideas how I can make that work for me? I also have cupboards full of sensible stuff like beans, pulses, passata, couscous, brown rice etc. (Probably mouldy and OOD).

I'm on day 5. No idea if it's even working - is it too soon to weigh myself? Is it normal to suddenly feel this negative? I'm not tempted to fill my face with crap and I don't especially mind the hunger pangs, but I didn't like feeling faint carrying the shopping up the stairs.

I'm doing it wrong, aren't I?

F1r3fly · 25/02/2020 17:01

Firstly, go easy on yourself. This dieting lark is not easy. If that’s all the calories you ate yesterday, that’s far far too low, but I’m sure you already know this. Sounds like you’ve got some nice food there, if maybe make a sausage and bean casserole and serve with your sweet potato ribbons? Maybe use the edamame beans (& chopped peppers, onions etc) in some sort of spicy wrap with some salad?

If you want to allow yourself a takeaway then do it, and then just get back on track tomorrow. Try not to think of it as all or nothing, but more about balanced eating.

You need to eat more in the day, feeling faint is not good at all. Try something for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks in between of fruit/nuts? What sort of healthy foods do you like?

Hope you are okay.

MockneyReject · 25/02/2020 17:54

I'm ok, now, thank you (bit embarrassed about getting hangry/ranty!) Blush

And thanks for the ideas. I did actually do a wrap with the cauliflower rice, mushrooms and onion. I stuck in some nutritional yeast, and soy sauce for good measure. Oh, and also had a handful of the edamame beans.

Think I had too much strong black coffee on a far too empty stomach, this morning - I won't do that, again! (Think adult DS messaging me in a panic about something he'd left until the last minute, requiring me to give up on my only chance to get stuff done before a 6 day stint at work, pushed me over the edge!)

Sausage and bean casserole sounds good, actually. I have lots of dried and tinned beans.

As for healthy foods I like, all the high calorie/sugary stuff! Nuts. Olives. Hummus. Crackers. Fruit. Boiled eggs.

Part of the problem is not liking to eat in the morning. I merely considered porridge this morning and felt physically sick!

How was your day?

borowren · 25/02/2020 19:57

@MockneyReject I can only repeat ...don't give yourself a hard time! If it was easy we wouldn't need to lose weight. It must be really hard if you are not used to cooking.
I try to eat when hungry...I know that sounds obvious, but I don't make myself eat breakfast. I don't like it, I'm not hungry first thing in the morning...so why bother?
My usual pattern is lunch, tea and then possibly a yogurt/fruit snack as a kind of supper at 9ish. Seems to work as I don't really get hungry until I start eating so putting that off till lunchtime seems sensible!
Sounds like you made good choices today...we'll done.
I've done ok. Homemade soup for lunch and then a big veg omelette for tea. Eggs are my go to food...quick and easy and all protein.

F1r3fly · 25/02/2020 21:03

Glad you are feeling better, totally understandable how you felt! Don’t be embarrassed. Losing weight is not easy but I think we can do it. Your food today sounds lovely, well done! As does yours borowren. I love eggs too.

I’ve eaten strawberries and 2 boiled eggs, chicken salad, a small pot of necterine, strawberries and raspberries, 2 slices of ham & plain yoghurt with raspberries mid afternoon and a pancake 😳. Had fish and a jacket potato for dinner.

I am going to weigh on Friday morning!

OP posts:
borowren · 25/02/2020 21:07

@F1r3fly Friday morning weigh in for me too! Grin

MockneyReject · 25/02/2020 21:21

So, are you both using MFP? Or just eating sensibly?
The vegetable omelette sounds good. I like Spanish omelette, rather than standard omelette - it's a bit too eggy for me!
I think MFP is good for me, as a source of information, having lost sight of portion sizes, but not so good for me, in terms of aiding me to obsess.
Hmmm.
Anyway, I'm still quite full from the wrap, so have had a lovely, sweet juicy pear and am off to bed.

Thank you both for talking me down!

F1r3fly · 26/02/2020 20:23

No I’m not logging calories or anything, too much hard work!
I’m doing okay, today have had plain yoghurt and strawberries, some dark chocolate, a chicken salad, some more chicken mid afternoon and sausages with roasted veg and small jacket potato for dinner.
Friday weigh in here we come!
How are you all getting on today? Hope you are feeling okay today mockney.

OP posts:
borowren · 26/02/2020 21:43

Not logging either. If something is too time consuming I tend to give up!
I've done ok although I did have some ice cream after a tough day at work today Blush
Rest of the day was ok...left over bolognaise with veg for lunch and another omelette for tea. Greek yoghurt for snack and some fruit.
Battling this evening as my usual reaction to eating something I shouldn't, such as ice cream, is to write off the day and binge on all kinds of carbs. So far I haven't succumbed. Fresh start in the morning!
Keep up the good work everyone.

MockneyReject · 27/02/2020 17:49

All good here, thanks. Except that the only scales in the only pharmacy in town are out of action. So, I don't even know if I'm actually achieving anything.

I happened to be on a diabetes training course, today, so checked my blood sugar. 6.8, which is quite high. Annoyingly, I had breakfast (porridge) 5 hours earlier, which I never, ever do on a work day, because I knew there would be sweets on the table and wanted to avoid them. So, that result is pretty meaningless, really, with nothing to compare it to!

borowren · 28/02/2020 18:43

3 lbs off this morning, which is good but not amazing for first week of low/no carb. (But I did have my ice cream slip up mid week!)
Allowing myself some rice with my curry tonight and maybe a glass of wine! Then back to it tomorrow. How's everyone else doing?

MockneyReject · 28/02/2020 21:26

Wow, I would say 3lb IS pretty amazing. Hope you're feeling inspired by that.

I've no idea how I'm doing as the only set of scales in town have now been out of paper for a week, so I can't weigh myself. Feeling very left out!

I've averaged up my calorie intake since I started this and it's too low. Also not in the proportions suggested by MFP. I'm not struggling at all with limiting food, more with thinking what TO eat.

I reckon I'm going to save £100+ on food this month. Certainly, I haven't bought pizza or takeaway this week, and we're not popping over the road (literally) for 'treats' every evening. DS is working his way through a vat of pasta sauce and I'm not even halfway through the bits I picked up on Tuesday. Normally I spend £20 every few days in the supermarket, stocking up on bread, butter, croissants, deli stuff, coffee pods and replacing the pack up stuff I've scoffed. Then there's the Dominos/Subway/cafe breakfasts that we haven't had.
We really have got in to some expensive eating habits. I like 'eating out' with DS, though, as it's phone/tablet/TV free time and also, they have tables there, so we won't stop that. I just won't have the 'big vege breakfast' - no point without the toast and I haven't eaten any all week. The only bread I've had is 2 wraps.
Gah, I really wanna know if I've lost any weight!

F1r3fly · 01/03/2020 17:34

Wow, 3lb is excellent! I managed a lb but trying not to get too disheartened, forgot to post Friday as busy week. Had a bit of a treat night last night but back on it today, hoping for more off next week. If I do a lb a week by summer I’ll have lost a good chunk. This is what I tell myself anyhow, so not to get disheartened.

I’m sure you have lost too mockney, hopefully the scales will have paper this week. Well done for avoiding the meals out etc!

OP posts:
borowren · 02/03/2020 07:55

I've had a shocking weekend...probably undone my 3lb loss!
Have meal prepped for the week ahead so going into a new week with positivity. Aiming for no carbs except veg for the next 5 days. Keep going!

MockneyReject · 03/03/2020 12:04

borrowren - do you food prep/cook separately for yourself?

Hope your shocking weekend hasn't done too much damage - it probably wasn't as bad as all that. Was it just 'normal' eating, rather than sticking to your weight loss plan?
