Never take your eye off the weighing scales for one minute

As soon as you let your guard down and don't weigh yourself for a couple of weeks (and despite trying to stay on the straight and narrow) out of nowhere half a stone appears. Every time. I don't want to be a daily or even weekly weigher but I think I might have to resign myself to it as those pesky pounds catch me unawares if I don't. Anyone else?

I also only weigh after a good day Grin

When I was mega strict I used to weigh after a bad day, suck it up and carry on! Not so much now!

cherrytree63 · 26/07/2019 09:39

I weigh most days. If I weighed weekly and it coincided with a fat day, I'd feel nothing's working, what's the point, and reach for the chocolate.
I've just spent 4 days away, hardly any exercise and no limits on food so wasn't surprised (and not too upset) to have put on 5lbs. But because there was a concrete reason for my weight gain I could shrug it off and sort it.

hightymike · 26/07/2019 20:13

I put on weight so easily unless I'm actively dieting (and then I usually only stay the same so it feels more like treading water). Reading this got me thinking what is the most amount of weight someone has put on on holiday. I reckon I could easily gain a stone in a week with very little effort!

RoseyPeas · 27/07/2019 06:24

@highty I'm sure I have gained 11lbs in a week before! Blush

So having stepped on scales this morning after 2.5 week holiday, I'm pleased to say that I have stayed the same.
Staying away (as much as possible) from sugar really helped - I was much less bothered by food.
Also although I was surrounded by treat food, because I felt it was "foreign" to me, I think I didn't have the same associations, so it was easier than expected to dismiss the thought of trying it.
I was in California so in reality the food was very familiar to me, so it's really interesting that I thought "that's not something I eat" when confronted by, for example, an unfamiliar brand of choc chip cookie.

How's everyone else doing? I'm back to daily weighing now. So today's weight is 17st 6.2lbs

IWantToBeNynaeve · 31/07/2019 09:23

I lost 27 kg last year and have managed to keep it off by weighing every day. I find it keeps me on track and it's much easier to lose a kilo rather than 5. If I'm up one day then I eat less that day and that sorts it. It's the only thing that works for me! If I was to only weigh weekly then I know if get disheartened if I was up a few kgs whereas there's only so much you can be up in one day and that's relatively easy to lose. I've gained and lost so many times over the years and this is the first time I've ever managed to keep it off long term.

RoseyPeas · 31/07/2019 10:19

Wow @IWantToBeNy that's really impressive. Do you mind telling how you did it?

myoctopus · 01/08/2019 13:00

All you regular weighters, which scales do you use?
My digital John Lewis are broken and I'm thinking of just going back to mechanical Salter type ones.

Can anyone recommend a good set of scales please?

CatalogueUniverse · 01/08/2019 13:16

The nhs BMI app records your weight when you put it in. Handy graph feature too and very easy to use.

RedLipsAndRosyCheeks · 01/08/2019 14:11

I use happy scale app to record my weight. Lots of lovely charts and graphs!

myoctopus · 01/08/2019 15:23

Ok, thank you, I mean the actual scales you stand on?

hightymike · 01/08/2019 16:19

I'm not sure what type mine are and I won't be home to check for a few days. I have some digital ones and some old fashioned manual ones. When I'm scared to weigh I use the manual ones as it's less scary as with a bit of jiggery pokery I can improve the result!

RedLipsAndRosyCheeks · 01/08/2019 18:22

Sorry! Got confused. We've got some digital Salter ones, they seem accurate.

Jaffacakebeast · 01/08/2019 18:37

Fitbit scales are the best, put in on my app for me so no cheating, I’m once a week weigher, first thing in the morning

RoseyPeas · 16/08/2019 09:08

Thanks for starting this OP.
Yesterday I had a bit of a sugar binge and this morning I was tempted not to step on the scales and then the mantra
"Never take your eyes off the scales for one minute" popped into my head!!!
So I jumped on and I'm up 2lbs but at least I know Smile

socksforfox · 17/08/2019 07:40

It's good to know then you can have a good day to make up for it. Otherwise I seem to bury my head and have another bad day

dudsville · 17/08/2019 07:46

I'm only just at the start of a diet shop I'm reading this with interest. I know from the past that my weight naturally varies by about 5 lbs depending on where I'm away in my cycle, but I find it motivating nonetheless. I'd planned on NOT weighing myself for a month and just counting calories. Now, I've never counted calories before so I don't know really how much difference if anything I'm making, but I doubt plan to weigh in until after my next period.

dudsville · 17/08/2019 07:48

I remember though reading about people who keep their weight by found what the pp said Liz Hurley does and I'd like to do that once I get to a good weight.

RoseyPeas · 17/08/2019 09:32

@socksforfox yes I usually bury my head too! Weighing didn't motivate me yesterday - I still managed to have a second bad day!!
Strangely scales say the same this morning though.

Slightaggrandising · 17/08/2019 16:22

I have a huge aversion to the scales. I need to start weighing regularly otherwise I'm just in denial. I live between 2 places as well. Is it best to have scales in each or just weigh every time I'm in one place?

DuckWillow · 17/08/2019 16:25

I weigh daily and find the fluctuations interesting,

I know that if I eat Indian for example that the weight goes up by a couple of lbs and I suspect that’s water retention due to salt.

On the whole though my weight is decreasing and that’s a good thing.

m0therofdragons · 18/08/2019 10:16

I usually weight daily but have been on holiday to North America for 2.5 weeks. I was terrified what damage I'd done with all the burgers but I lost 2lb Blush

We walked loads and ate regular meals with no real snacking. Now I'm home and walking less I need to make sure I don't continue to eat the same quantities now home!
