As soon as you let your guard down and don't weigh yourself for a couple of weeks (and despite trying to stay on the straight and narrow) out of nowhere half a stone appears. Every time. I don't want to be a daily or even weekly weigher but I think I might have to resign myself to it as those pesky pounds catch me unawares if I don't. Anyone else?

This happened to me recently. Didn't weigh myself for a fortnight and am up 5lbs.

Fuck sake.

Steala · 02/07/2019 09:08

Totally agree. When I stop weighing daily, it's because I know I'm eating badly (comfort eating) and ignorance is bliss.

The only exception is where I wanted to see a proper loss, rather than the 0.4 lost, 0.2 gained tiresome pattern. So I didn't weigh for the whole of April, grabbed my scales in huge excitement on 1 May and lost.. nothing. I have to weigh daily.

pistachiomousse · 03/07/2019 20:21

Not weighing definitely seems to go hand in hand with weight gain. Anyway it's back to daily weighing for me now from here on in - I just can't be trusted to eat responsibly otherwise.........

pistachio I also think your name might have something to do with it! Delicious!

MontyBowJangles · 03/07/2019 22:07

Totally with you. I've tried to just focus on eating healthily (tick) not obsessing over scales/avoiding weighing (tick) and being happy (tick).

I've put on 1.5 stone in 18 months Hmm

Back to daily weighing for me too. Dread to think what my waist measures. Must by a tape and start tracking that too.

sneakypinky · 04/07/2019 10:52

Back to daily weighing again and lost 5lb!

PollyPelargonium52 · 04/07/2019 12:56

I agree. I weigh myself most days as it is so easy to slip even more downhill than I already am lol.

Very easy.

pistachiomousse · 05/07/2019 12:03

All these replied have increased my resolve to weigh daily. When I first posted I was sure that people would come along say that they threw out the scales and just listened to their body and/ate mindfully/only ate when they were hungry/chewed very slowly and they lost a stone without really trying. Sadly that's not the case - to a person, everyone who has given up weighing has had a nasty shock and gained weight. Glad I posted this so I'm never tempted to stray from the scales again!

Def the case for me! If I weigh weekly... I've lost weight/remained the same = yay, I can have a week of indulgence. I've gained = who cares, I have a whole week to lose it.

I find making the adjustments daily is much better. If I want to lose weight I want to start now, not in six days time which may as well be never.

RoseyPeas · 06/07/2019 08:18

Morning peeps!
How do all you daily weighers deal with the misery of getting up in the not and realising that you have gained 1.5lbs overnight!!!!
1.5!!!!
Feeling a bit grumpy tbh.
Ok I admit that I was feeling lazy and hadn't logged food but was all low carb - pretty much all cucumber ffs Grin

RoseyPeas · 06/07/2019 08:19

getting up in the morning

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/07/2019 08:22

I weigh daily, add it to a spreadsheet (I track all sorts on thus spreadsheet so not just opening it for weight), then it auto calculates an average for the week. I use the average as my gain/loss. So I think to myself "I've lost/gained X this week" as if I weighed once a week and it was a heavier day then I'd be disheartened.

Chickydoo · 06/07/2019 08:28

I weigh daily, have done for 25+ years. Am menopausal now, even so have only gained 5lb in that time
(Pregnancies aside) my weight can go up & down by a couple of pounds if it goes up a pound or 2. I cut back for a couple of days. I have never gained 'surprise' weight. I even have small travel scales I take on holiday.
It's a chore, a habit but I can still fit in my clothes from years ago...good for saving money.

RoseyPeas · 14/07/2019 20:03

Wow Chicky you are very dedicated to take scales away with you. I'm on holiday for nearly 3 weeks and although I'm not snacking, my meals are bigger than usual, so it's a bit worrying not knowing whether I need to cut back a bit.
Bernadette, that sounds like a really good idea, I think I might steal that Wink
What else do you track if you don't mind me asking? I started a bullet journal in Jan, tracking different healthy habits - self care, taking medication on time, exercise, sleep, but it became too time consuming and I gave up after a few weeks!

Sosayi · 17/07/2019 13:47

I weigh every day and I write it down on my phone 😆
In the last 3 years my weight has fluctuated by 4lbs ( normally when we go away for several weeks on holiday and I eat and drink to much )
But as soon as I’m back I can knock that off within a week or so
It’s the only way I’ve ever been able to keep my weight at a level I’m happy with

Sosayi · 17/07/2019 13:48

Chucky I have small mini travel scales as well
Friends think I’m crazy but they are the ones struggling to lose the weight after a holiday

pistachiomousse · 17/07/2019 17:13

Off to look for mini travel weighing scales...........

Hi! I'm new to starting my weight loss and advice that I've read outside MN say's not to weigh yourself too often and take photos/measurements instead, now I'm concerned if I follow that I'll end up putting more weight on! Any advice please?

Also, why do you think it is that people put on weight when they don't weigh themselves often? I'm curious!

Oysterbabe · 19/07/2019 08:27

I weigh every Friday morning without fail and record my weight on my phone. I hop on a few other times in the week too. It's always bad news for me if I start avoiding the scales. Some people can maintain a healthy weight without conscious effort, I am not one of those people. Not overeating is for me is like tensing a muscle, it requires conscious effort. If I stop thinking about it then I will over eat and start to gain every single time.

londonloves · 22/07/2019 07:23

I'm feeing super depressed this morning, having put back almost all of the weight I lost before my holiday. Regime change required!

Mrsbclinton · 22/07/2019 18:47

I was weighing myself daily after losing approx 2 st.
I thought I had maintenance cracked & stopped weighing.
I gained nine pounds and I am back stepping on the scales every day as I know it keeps my mind focused.

For me its a bit like keeping an eye on your bank account and cutting back on spending if you are in the red.

RoseyPeas · 25/07/2019 18:35

Am returning from holiday tomorrow, not weighed for 2.5 weeks so quite nervous!

ainslieb · 25/07/2019 19:24

We should weigh in every other day!

RoseyPeas · 25/07/2019 20:30

@ainslieb that's a really good idea. Earliest I can weigh in is sat am so will do then.
