Does anyone have any information about this?

It seems to be all over Instagram with people reading the book about skinny jeans and cake 🍰

I know I could ask on there but like the anonymity on here.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips or hints?

Love51 I think you will 'tune in' to your hunger signals the more you do it. And have healthy snacks for if you realise you haven't eaten in a while, and don't want to be shaky.

I actually do do this technique and it really does work.
It has something to do with trusting yourself and being in charge of what is happening to you.
Good luck everyone X

Bent, which book? Paul McKenna? Susie Orbach? I tried googling HDE on Amazon and got a wealth of different book options.

I clearly missed something, which book are you all referring to?

Sunshineandshowers81 · 26/05/2019 16:43

I'm reading intuitive eating by Evelyn tribole

nellyitsme · 26/05/2019 17:13

The book is by Josie Spinardi it's on Amazon

nellyitsme · 26/05/2019 17:25

As well as Josie book, I find Susie Orbach's book called On Eating a really simple short and to the point guide to just fit in my bag that I can dip into whenever

Thanks howzebout. I seem to be constantly mildly peckish, I don't think I'm hearing my body very well! Perhaps it will come with time.

nellyitsme · 27/05/2019 12:32

@Love51 I don't know when I'm hungry my body seems to have suppressed the signal over many years of dysfunctional eating. What I do is try to eat something every 3 to 4 hours and gradually, hopefully, my hunger signals will get clearer

Hi there. I'm currently reading the book and two big questions are popping out at me. Would be grateful if someone with experience in HDE could help. What if you have set times to eat in work? I work in a school so my breaks are at 11 and 1 and i might not be starving by then. The fear of not eating and getting over hungry and then not being able to eat is too much!!! Also where's the room for chocolate or snacks??? If I eat each meal until I'm satisfied then do I not get to have a little bit of chocolate with a cuppa afterwards??? What if I want a banana or Apple mid morning but I'm not starving should I not eat them?? Sorry these might be covered further on in the book but just thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Reading the book and have used this technique before alongside hypnotherapy. It makes sense and I've felt more relaxed.
I have been on and off various diets for the past few years and have put on weight! I recently just felt sick of tracking food, plannng food, just constantly thinking about it because of the diet.
I had a funny experience earlier this week though which made me feel annoyed with myself. Went for lunch at my friend's and she kept asking me to eat various things which I didn't want as I wasn't hungry. I ended up eating them just to be polite! Made me realise how these things happen. I'm starting to take control but it will take time.

Quinn I remember thinking about set times to eat when I read the book. It’s only a problem for me if I have a meeting booked but I think if you’re stuck on those times then experiment with having different things for breakfast and at break and lunch until you find what works. Could you cram in a small snack at a lesson changeover if you were hungry?

You aren’t meant to wait until you’re starving by the way, just hungry. If you let yourself get too hungry I think it’s harder not to end up wanting loads of carbs, maybe because your blood sugar has dropped.

With chocolate leave yourself some room at the end of the meal (you become able to judge this more easily as time goes on) or have it as a snack when you are hungry (although chocolate just tends to make you hungrier again quicker because of the sugar). If you want fruit mid morning and are hungry then eat them - you don’t have to be starving - but don’t eat them just because it’s fruit-o’clock if that makes sense!

@Elloello I've just found this thread. I'm about 3/4 through Josie Spinardi's book. I've been reading it on and off for a few months and I think she makes a lot of sense.

I've been taking on board what she's said about hunger and am following my feelings of hunger where possible rather than the clock. I feel a lot more relaxed about food now that it's neither good nor bad. There are other habits she suggests that I would like to start doing as well such as checking in with how what I've eaten makes me feel.

I'm planning to re-read it as a pp suggested.

I haven't weighed myself so I don't know if I have gone up or down but my jeans are slightly looser. It's definitely not a quick fix but I can live with that.

How are you getting on with it? Also, interested to hear from the OP and others on the thread.

WhoAteMyNuts · 04/08/2019 08:10

I'm have been doing a similar version from intuitive eating.

I think I have plateaued for my natural weight and eating but that's fine as I am no longer overweight according to my BMI and feel so much better generally.

Had an Indian takeout last night and had to throw most of it away as I started to feel full very quickly. Really wish they did smaller portions as I hate reheating the next day so a lot of it was wasted but I didn't overeat which I would have done previously.

Love the idea-tried the approach over the years but i have a large appetite and am pretty physically active so i prefer low(not keto)carb as i stuff my face with a shitload more veg&gravitate towards more nutitional stuff.Been eating low carb for years-never looked or felt better&only thing i found to kill my cravings for high cal nutritionally empty carby things..Nice to be back to old self(i ended up size 22after having DC) and good luck-you've got to do whatever works for you.
