Ok my plan is this:

Cut down on bread and pasta

cut out wine during the week (only a couple of glasses over the weekend)

only the very occasional bar of chocolate

Cut out processed foods

loasda fruit/veg/fish etc

Half hour on x trainer most days

Drink loads of water

Just basically watching the calories and generally trying to eat my 5 portions of fruit and veg a day

Will this work?

Today i had

Bekkie - banana and bagel

snack - healthy fruit bar

lunch - baked pot/cheese and salad & apple

snack - banana and ww yogurt

Dinner - baked chicken with savoury rice and salad follwoed by bowl of grapes

Is this going to be ok or am i on the wrong track?

DOn't forget to watch your portion size, and if you can replace cheese with something else; i.e with your baked potato have tuna and salad. I've lost nearly 2 stone by doing something simialr to you, but really cut down on bread, cheese, chocolate and cake. What a difference it has made, so keep up the good work!

HuwEdwards · 16/07/2007 21:32

sounds good - I'd just watch out for the healthy snack bars - sometimes altho sparse in fat - are laden with sugar.

otherwise, I'd bet me salary on you!

huffpuff · 16/07/2007 21:33

thanks - only had a sprinkling of cheese but i figure that a little bit wont be too bad?

Yeah - forgot to mention portion size - am also doing that!

So - sounds ok?

How long it take you to lose 2 stone? Well done BTW!!!

Good point Huw - also forgot to mention that I don't eat a lot of fruit because of the natural sugars, limit myself to a couple of pieces a day - but pile on the green veg and salad!

huffpuff · 16/07/2007 21:33

any suggestions for "ok" healthy bars?

Lostmykeys · 16/07/2007 21:35

Whoops the threads catching up with me..... has taken me 11 weeks to lose 24lb. I had piled on loads while BF DS, but it feels great to see it disappearing. You will look and feel fab too.

foxinsocks · 16/07/2007 21:36

ooh very exciting

dh and I need to lose some weight and are starting when all the current chocolate and crisp stash has been demolished.

I reckon you should cut out chocolate altogether. Think it's easier not to have it at all than just have a bit (it's not my thing, chocolate - crisps are my thing).

HuwEdwards · 16/07/2007 21:37

flapjack maybe - and v. filling. However on the face of it, the rest is so good, maybe the odd snackbar is ok.

Lostmykeys · 16/07/2007 21:38

Fox - try the Walkers baked crisps, taste isn't great but really low in fat compared to normal crisps and crunch sufficiently to make you fell like a pack of crisps.

Oh and Huff, sorry to go on, but have cut down on my nightly glasses of wine too. I am not the saint that this thread is now portraying me to be!!!!! It is bloody hard at times!

huffpuff · 16/07/2007 21:39

i want to lose a stone by the end of the summer and then maybe concentrate on losing another half a stone.

What did you guys have for tea tonight? Need some ideas?!!

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 16/07/2007 21:40

11 weeks and 24 lbs is bloody impressive Lostmykeys

I tried those baked crisps - they aren't bad are they. When I cut out crisps, I normally end up scoffing lots of those Ryvita things instead (I like the ones with lots of seeds on).

huffpuff · 16/07/2007 21:40

I HAVE to have the odd glass of wine at the weekend or i will go mad!

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 16/07/2007 21:41

you sound like you have a similar appetite to me huffpuff

If I cut down carbs, I need a HUGE salad to compensate and a big bowl of fruit.

I made fish pie tonight - salmon and mackerel in a white wine and half fat creme fraiche sauce, topped with mash - had it with a green salad.

Then had ice cream for pudding . Think dh should finish his chocoalte tonight and we'll start tomorrow .

huffpuff · 16/07/2007 21:42

so eating too much fruit isnt good for you?

OP posts:
Lostmykeys · 16/07/2007 21:43

Huff - said cut down, not cut out! Still need an alcoholic fix every so often. Have mdoerated my drinking when I go out to just two glasses of wine , rather than the 2 bottles I could happily down pre children

foxinsocks · 16/07/2007 21:44

fruit is fine - better than lots of chocolate, ice cream etc.

Lostmykeys · 16/07/2007 21:45

Fruit is good for you of course!!!! I am also not a diet guru, just saying what has worked for me. But, there are natural sugars which would be calorific in fruit, hence my moderation of it - plus prefer veg.

foxinsocks · 16/07/2007 21:48

yes, everything has calories but at least fruit has lots of health benefits too.

You'd probably find a bowl of cherries/berries would fill you up more than a snack bar and not be that different in calories.

foxinsocks · 16/07/2007 21:50

I've found myself really getting back into eating raw carrots and celery. And they are good for not making your blood sugar zoom up and down.

Thomasina · 17/07/2007 20:19

did you have a thread going like this about a month ago?

Thomasina · 17/07/2007 20:20

or am I going mad?

colander · 17/07/2007 20:37

My way of losing a stone:

Breakfast - orange, kiwi, banana, grapes
Lunch - same as breakfast
5pm - small handful of raisins and sunflower seeds
evening meal - something normal but healthy iyswim (eg salmon, potato, veg, etc) with a yoghurt for pud
Drinks - water only, nothing else, and lots of it.

Do this for 2 weeks

Works for me, anyway, but I am not the type that will stick to a long term diet, I have to do drastic because I get bored too easily.

Thomasina · 17/07/2007 20:42

Colander - not even herbal tea to drink?

do you lose a stone in two weeks???

colander · 17/07/2007 21:01

I do, and yes, no herbal tea (but then I think it tastes disgusting anyway). I don't do this very often, just when I have had enough of being lardy and want to feel better about myself! I have to be completely strict tho - really only eat what I said, and only for 2 weeks. Not sure if there is enough calcium in the diet - hence the yoghurt for pud - which is why I will only do it occasionally. HTH!

malovitt · 18/07/2007 08:21

I can lose a stone in a month, am currently on week 3 and have lost 10lbs.
No bread products at all, including bagels and pitta. No dairy except cottage cheese & 1pt skimmed milk per day. No alcohol. No chocolate/crips or other rubbish.

Breakfast is honey nut bran flakes (from Sainsbury's) with strawberries and blueberries.
Lunch - baked potato with cottage cheese and baked beans
Evening - big salad with smoked mackerel, prawns, avocado & low calorie dressing.
Fruit whenever you want. Drink loads of water. I have done very little/no exercise this time.
If you exercise each day, I would imagine that you could have a few glasses of wine at the weekend and stay on track.

If I cut out bread, the effect is pretty instant - I can see my tummy flattening day by day. I love bread though...
