New thread - new start

Not looking forward to the next few days. Ah well. Yes - we have calamine aqueous cream - feels lovely, and much easier to apply than calamine lotion!

agalch · 03/07/2007 07:19

Morning girls

Jackie hope DS isn't too bad with the chicken pox.My ds1 had it twice, not too bad the first time but he really suffered the second.

Haven't been that good this week.Ate dd1's leftover wedges with mayo yesterday, not done that for months.Have to try and lose the pound i gained last week at least.I really hate when people say how great i look and how well i am doing.

I feel like i am slipping again and it is such a struggle just to get through the day.I think my slimming class has kind of worked but i still have issues with food and binging that a class can't solve for me.So i feel like a fraud atm. When i do lose i have no clue how it's happened because i haven't been eating like i am meant to iyswim. So it is a fluke these days when i lose a pound.

Anyway off to have my porridge before i go to pick my mindee up.Will maybe have to go out today to stop myself scoffing No self control at all!!

JackieNo · 03/07/2007 09:15

Hi agalch, thanks for the good wishes. DS not too bad - more spots, but only a couple of them seem to be bothering him, especially one on one of his index fingers, that he keeps knocking. Bit alarming to hear that your DS1 had it twice. So far so good, but it's very early days yet.

littlemisssensible · 03/07/2007 11:02

Hi Jackie,

Sorry to hear about DS. I hope he doesn't get the pox too badly They really are very irritating!

My ds had it very badly and spent all day in the bath as it was the only place he felt comfortable, we also played dot to dot with the calamine lotion and the spots on his arms and legs!

JackieNo · 03/07/2007 11:04

Hi littlemisssensible - thanks - still doing OK. But it's wall-to-wall cbeebies here. Will go out for a walk later, maybe make jelly.

littlemisssensible · 03/07/2007 11:13

Oh No! Cbeebies! Arghhhhh!

That always gave me brain numbing and I'd end up eating stuff without knowing it! Be on your guard!

A walk would be good, I hope you're having better weather than the miserably rainy skys we have down on the south coast!

JackieNo · 03/07/2007 11:15

Might actually be time for that walk now - been OK on the eating front so far, but still got a lot of day to get through.

TigerFeet · 03/07/2007 12:40

Jackie, poor ds DD had it when she was about 8 months old - better for her really as she was too little to scratch so she had an uncomfortable couple of days then she seemed to pick up quite quickly. She wasn't too bad at all.

I am trying to make up for the weekend - it was dd's birthday yesterday so I have been hoovering up party food

JackieNo · 03/07/2007 12:49

Thanks TigerFeet. Yes, it does seem that the earlier they have it, the better. Just had some chocolate, but not much, and none left now. OK lunch, so quite pleased with myself so far .

JackieNo · 04/07/2007 07:51

So - eating: OK. DS: not so much. He was pretty much OK during the day, but had a bad night - in pain, and writhing around crying, poor thing. And just lifting him up and cuddling him, which is what you'd normally do to comfort him, makes it worse. He's still asleep atm, and I'm off to work for the morning, then on pox duty in the afternoon. Wish me luck.

littlemisssensible · 04/07/2007 11:27

Hi Jackie,

Your poor little chap I feel for him.

Late at night/middle of the night/ early morning was when my DS used to be at his worst and when we'd spend long hours entertaining him in a warm bath! I was knackered by the time he was better!!!!

JackieNo · 04/07/2007 12:44

Oh blimey, littlemisssensible - do you think it'll come to midnight baths[shok]? I'm exhausted enough just with the getting up to soothe/give medicine/apply cream.

TigerFeet · 04/07/2007 13:55

Awww Jackie, poor him, and poor you

Hopefully he'll feel better tomorrow.

littlemisssensible · 04/07/2007 13:58

I hope not, for your sake!

DS did have it particularly badly, he had spots in his ears, mouth and even on the end of his private bits!!!!

In the end I put him in the bath because it was the only way to give him some relief. Then I tried to catch up with sleep when he slept during the day (difficult with DD feeling fine and wanting to play )

DD got it after DS but she only had a mild case so we didn't have to spend nights in the bathroom with her!

The positive side of it was that I was too tired to eat though!!!!

JackieNo · 04/07/2007 15:08

Thanks for all the good wishes. We've just made some jelly, which cheered him up. He's got one spot coming on his willy, plus a few underneath the scrotum, I think - do they all develop into the blistery spots, or do you think some might just subside without developing ?

WigWamBam · 05/07/2007 11:00

How's he doing today, Jackie?

Some of dd's pox didn't blister, if that's any consolation - they were mainly the ones which developed after the first few days, when the rest had started to dry up. She's scarred quite badly, despite being really good about not scratching - she had it at Christmas, and still has loads of marks. They seem to make a beeline for their private bits - she had them all over her fanjo and inside as well.

Hi WWB - he's not too bad thanks - the odd moment when one spot hurts and he goes a bit ballistic, but otherwise pretty cheerful - and a much better night last night - probably because he was tired from the night before.

Saw on another thread that Kewcumber's DS has tonsilitis (I think it was), and is on ABs, poor thing. Up every 45 mins in the night .

WigWamBam · 05/07/2007 11:31

Oh no - poor little soul.

Hope he feels better soon, too!

OP posts:
JackieNo · 05/07/2007 11:32

By the way WWB, feel free to say no, but I mentioned in my last weigh-in email about the penpals thing - do you think your DD would like to write to mine? Are they close enough in age, do you think?

WigWamBam · 05/07/2007 11:37

Oh gosh - yes, I was going to email you. Sorry ... I used to have a brain once

We could give it a go ... do you think your dd would be OK writing to a 6 year old, though, or would she think she was a bit babyish?

OP posts:
JackieNo · 05/07/2007 11:40

I don't think it would be a problem - and most of her classmates are 6. We could just not mention their ages at all, maybe? I suspect it will be one of those things that might fizzle out quite quickly, but she seened really keen, when I talked about the whole penpal thing to her. I may have to send you a translation. Her spelling is pretty idiosyncratic still.

Kewcumber · 05/07/2007 11:43

hello - yes Gherkin has tonsilitis, poor thing is really very miserable and I'm pretending to work but am sleep -deprived. My lovely mum has had him for three days so I'm only doing night duty. Horrible forcing him to take AB's when he doesnt want to swallow anything, has eaten so little that he is shaking and hasn;t drunk much either. Hopefully he will get a little better every day now.

Sorry your DS is ill too Jackie, its so sad seing them in pain and not really being able to do much isn't it.

WigWamBam · 05/07/2007 11:45

So is dd's

She still spells a lot of things very phonetically, but she's getting there. She's knuckling down with her spellings now after pride came before a fall with her last test; she's so used to getting them all right (because we practice together) that she decided "I don't need to practice, I know them all, we do them at school, I don't need to do them with you" ... then got half of them wrong and for the first time ever has to repeat a sheet.

Strangely enough, she's wanted to practice them every day since then ... can't think why

I'll ask her tonight. She was keen on doing it when I first asked her, but she's been to bed since then and may well have forgotten. It would be nice to try, even if they only do it for a little while.
