Pinkroseuk · 01/01/2019 08:45

Anyone else In a similar situation?
I have been told have to loose 3 stone before I can be given any treatment for infertility on NHS- next appointment in March and they will give me the tablets if the weights gone by then.
Im 5ft 2 and currently 14.2- have active lifestyle - walk for hour at lunchtime and workout at home but still finding it hard to shift.

I've heard weightloss is around 80% diet and 20% exercise. I have a very active lifestyle but the weight is creeping on due to the amount of crap I'm eating.
I've just downloaded myfitnesspal to see where I'm going wrong. (I KNOW where I'm going wrong but I'm confident that this will keep me in check)

NicoAndTheNiners · 01/01/2019 08:53

Join a gym, get a PT. but yes focus on your diet more than exercise. But a PT will help with your diet as well.

Pinkroseuk · 01/01/2019 08:56

Thanks - yes I use my fitness pal great for keeping you on track- we have a good diet- no ready meals or junk food - I have limited myself to 1500 calories a day and have small breakfast - fruit for lunch and small dinner - not sure where I'm going wrong but going to have to try something else for 2019

I've just updated myfitnesspal and to lose 7lb it has told me to stick to 1400 calories a day. You say you have limited yourself to 1500 but is that what the app suggested?.

Pinkroseuk · 01/01/2019 09:27

@donajimena the app won't suggest any less as it says I'm loosing the weight too quickly but it's worked for the last stone so going to try and just decrease the food a bit more - gradually of course and see what happens

Pinkroseuk · 01/01/2019 09:28

@donajimena if only let's me put in to loose 1kg a week whereas I'm aiming for 2kg a week

We did it a few years ago - it was hard but worth it for our beautiful baby. Now back on it trying to get back down again. Good luck!

Pinkroseuk · 01/01/2019 09:55

Thank you @Petitprince. I have days when I just want to eat everything in site and some where I'm so motivated as I can see what we could get at the end- just need to keep on track. How long did it take you to loose the weight first time if u don't mind me asking?

What fertility treatment to you need? Do you have pcos? If so is your doctor willing to give you metformin to help with weight loss? A low.carb diet (not no carb) may also be helpful and be a good way to reduce calories.

CottonSock · 01/01/2019 09:57

What about slimming world or similar? It might help to have support as it's a big goal. Best of luck though

Pinkroseuk · 01/01/2019 11:57

@AlsoBling2 I need clomid which they will only give to people with bmi 30 or below. Yes had PCOS for years but that doesn't seem to be causing any problems other than harder for weight loss. Tried metformin but didn't help. I'm reducing carbs and upping protein atm.
Thanks @CottonSock - I did try it online as no groups at times I can get to round here. Didn't really help much though. Thanks

Personally I think 2kg a week for a sustained period of time is unrealistic (although possible for the first few weeks) - 1kg is a better aim.

BitchPeas · 01/01/2019 12:07

I’m 5’3 and to lose 1lb a week I have to stick to 1200/1100 cals a day and exercise for an hour 5 times a week. I maintain at 1400/1500 cals

Lwmommy · 01/01/2019 12:08

I have PCOS an d the only way i can lose weight is to follow a low Gi diet, so.low carb, including fruit. Lots of fruit is really high in sugar which is difficult for your body to handle properly especially if you are insulin resistant due to PCOS.

high protein, full fat foods are much better in my case than the low fat, high sugar versions.

Tellmewhatyouknow · 01/01/2019 12:08

Have a look at Team RH on facebook.
If you are familiar with MFP and already active it should suit you really well.

Good luck

AlsoBling2 · 01/01/2019 12:19

@pinkrock, it may be worth asking for a higher dose. Having said that, I d9nt find it helps me lose weight but it does help me keep it odd.

Reducing carbs at night is v beneficial as that's when you need them least.Aso regular exercise better than more intense exercise 3 times a week. Good luck, I know it's hard.

As a separate note if pcos is confirmed.problem and you want yo speed things up, consider private. The drugs themselves are very cheap so it's really only a couple of consultations. Not cheap, but certainly nothing like ivf. I had initial consultation and some.tests (although you can take.nhs results), then Clomid with an internal scan to check for hyper fertility.

AlsoBling2 · 01/01/2019 12:20

Keep it off (metformin). Damn auto correct.

Pinkroseuk · 01/01/2019 12:41

Thanks all
Yes we were considering private but not sure if they would follow the same guidelines :/ do you mind me asking ball part figure of costs? Are we talking £1000-5000 or more? ThAnks

If you are doing ivf then you want to give yourself the best possible chance of it working. You'll never have motivation like this.
Get to the gym, put some inspirational music on, focus on the end result, your beautiful baby and give it everything you've got.
If I can do it, anyone can! Wink

Pinkroseuk · 01/01/2019 13:09

Thanks @GreenDinosaur it definitely is motivation!

I didn't pay for everything as I had a different issue alongside that allowed me to claim on my work medical insurance. So I don't know the cost of the tests in particular. However, each consultation cost about £500. I had initial Nhs tests from my gp and previous diagnosis of pcos and my consultant was happy to accept those in conjunction with her own internal scan (where my pcos "cross" was immediately visible). The internal scan was a further £300 if I recall correctly. Excluding The other issue, I recall having two consultations (one with scan - in her office), followed by one consultation with scan after I started on Clomid. I had a scan for reassurance at 7 weeks too.

I didn't pay for most of that, but based on the costs I did pay I guess that all would have come to about £2000-£2500. Plus whatever tests were necessary. The Clomid cost £5.50 for 2 months....

Nan0second · 01/01/2019 16:10

Have you considered mumsnet boot camp.
It’s low carb, high fat which worked extremely well for me (also pcos) and has a good evidence base for this.

BirdieInTheHand · 01/01/2019 16:12

I'm also 5'2 and 1500 calories is way too much if I want to lose. I need to be much nearer to 1100.
I find the 5:2 diet effective.
Good luck!

Petitprince · 01/01/2019 17:02

When I was really focused I'd lost about a stone a month, sometimes more. Good luck OP.

Pinkroseuk · 01/01/2019 19:17

Thankyou @AlsoBling2 that's great help

Thanks everyone feeling motivated and going to crack this- no @Nan0second I havnt heard of that one - will have a look into
It :)
