wehat are the criteria to get it on the NHS?

PamPooveysCow · 07/08/2019 07:31

For now, only a few GPS in NW & SW London offer this. You have to contact them to find out which ones (or your GP will tell you).

I live in NW London so I'll give it a try! thanks

I've been thinking about this and I have to say I'm really surprised that this is the route that the NHS are taking for "prescriptions".
I'm sure the motivation/team leader is something that a lot of people would really benefit from, especially if they have tried to go it alone before.
But the diet itself seems like it's not going to work for a) anyone who already cooks, but for themselves and others (a spouse that cooks for their husband/wife, where the other spouse isn't going to want this diet, a mum that cooks for a family - and let's face it, most of this is going to be women cooking for a demanding husband/family) and nor is it going to work for b) someone who doesn't really know how to cook or c) someone who is time poor.
And it's also quite expensive ingredients - and some of them hard to get in smaller shops. Isn't one of the biggest issues for healthy eating where people live in a "food desert" and have convenience stores and fast food to rely on?

drspouse Our Path makes a lot of it being “blessed” by the NHS. But I think it maybe somewhat mis-represented. I agree re team leader, it may be some are great, but mine is nothing to write home about. I have had to back off on a lot of it as it was making me stressed. I got completely compulsive about walking, so I have now taken myself completely off line on this,so my walking is on my terms.

I was thinking about trying this - hence reading the thread, but think I'll give it a miss and bo back to the blood sugar diet.
I followed that about three years ago, lost about 20kg and have only put back on about 3kg since. The principles are low carb, low sugar - and a fairly stringent first 8 weeks. There is a paid version with a bit more support, but also a pretty active free forum. You can read about the plan online, but the basic Micheal Moseley book (same person that created the 5:2 diet plan) costs less than a week of no-tech "Our Path".

I'll just finish the slice of cheesecake in the fridge over the weekend, then Monday...

I now feel like I have been kind of a mug. It lasts for 12 weeks & they take £30 a month:(
Yesterday my mentor asked me how I was doing, I responded, expecting some sort of conversation to ensue, but no, nothing, no response. I think she does it to some kind of script.
Yesterday’s article was about having lots of store cupboard basics at all times - well, duh!
Today’s article was about artificial sweeteners.

I've been doing it for about 2 months. I've found it pretty effective and have lost weight slowly but steadily. I'd say it seems to be working fairly well for about half of my group of 10. I've found it easy to follow and think I probably enjoy the food I eat now more than the food I ate previously. It hasn't felt restricted, cravings seemed to have disappeared and I suspect it genuinely will changed the way I eat in the long term. I think the approach is pretty interesting in that it tries to change distorted thinking about eating alongside giving practical advice on nutrition and exercise. It's definitely not a quick fix though.

Fr0g · 10/08/2019 08:21

don't beat yourself up about it Moanranger - it works for some people, not others.

Anyone else having problems logging meals on the Food Diary? As I am in week 8, I am supposed to log my eating for 24 hours. Now system will not let me do it :(

PalindromicUser · 30/08/2019 07:55

Just picking up on this because I signed up and am doing reset. It perhaps doesn’t help that I’m trying to do it at the same time as having a particularly vicious period, when I would normally be super hungry anyway, but I’ve followed the meal plan religiously and I’m starving ALL the time. To the point of getting really bad low blood sugar headaches which I’ve had for the past three days and the wobbles.

It’s just not enough carbs for me. We already cook a lot from scratch and eat quite a good diet. DH had a problem with sugar, and it has helped him go cold turkey on that, but it’s not sustainable for me. The idea that I can go from lunch at 12:30 (with next to no carbs) to dinner at 8:30 (also with next to no carbs) and survive in the meantime on a handful of nuts or some Greek yoghurt is not going to work.

Neolara · 30/08/2019 20:15

Have a couple of hard boiled eggs. The eating lots of protein really does work to keep you feeling fuller for longer.

CJSmith2019 · 01/09/2019 13:48

Just was looking for information on this. Seems to be getting mixed reviews.

Moanranger · 01/09/2019 23:03

I have stopped actively following it, though I think I have two weeks left. The eating plan is for me too rich. I do think I have changed my habits somewhat, and am walking more, but no weight loss.

CJSmith2019 · 02/09/2019 15:33

Thanks Moanranger. I know I am guilty of hopping from one plan to the next and somehow hoping I will find one right for me. So I'm better off just focusing on healthy eating and starting back at the gym, I think.

Moanranger · 04/09/2019 15:53

Some difficulty with getting them to stop charging me. Not a straightforward process unfortunately. I think I have now cancelled, but will let you know if they pull a sneaky one.
