Just that really.

OP posts:
user100987 · 22/08/2018 19:43

It's my goal weight and I'm that height. I'll be a small size 12 at that weight. I'm only a few pounds off that now. I'm always told I weigh more than I look so think I'm sturdy boned or something!

PostNotInHaste · 22/08/2018 20:11

But for some people with smaller builds the top end of the BMI range is going to make them look significantly bigger. Friend and I were taking about this today as we’re both 5ft 6 but I’m 2 stone heavier than her which she was struggling to believe apparently. I don’t think she was just being nice and she recognises i’m but bigger, just doesn’t understand how it’s 2 stone.

As I said back up thread I am overweight with about 6lbs to go so there will end up about 1.5 stone between us. She’s quite small so a stone and a half would really show on her so she would feel significantly bigger and I could see that would feel very big to her. That’s why there is a large range as so much variation between people.

grasspigeons · 22/08/2018 20:12

Yes - that's me! I'm a 14 and feel overweight

grasspigeons · 22/08/2018 20:14

I should point out that it all sits on my waist. I wouldn't feel overweight if it distributed itself more evenly

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 22/08/2018 20:23

I feel enormous at that height and 11 stone. Size 14s are getting tight. I'm currently a fraction below 10 and aiming for 9.

BigBlueBubble · 22/08/2018 21:05

All these posts saying they would feel "huge" at 11st is quite saddening
People are built differently. At 11st I don’t have a flat stomach. I need to get down to about 9st to achieve that. Someone with a heavier build than me might look slim and fit at 11st.

LemonysSnicket · 22/08/2018 21:50

I'm 5'4 and felt overweight at 10.3 so yes I suppose if I were a bit taller I would at 11stone

Redfooty · 22/08/2018 22:00

I felt emaciated. Ribs sticking through chest.

8FencingWire · 22/08/2018 22:02

This me and yes, I am overweight. I need to lose a stone. It’s all on my belly and thighs. Not beating myself up for it though. But I need to get rid of it, it’s not good for my joints.

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 23/08/2018 12:23

I'm 5'6 and when I weighed 11 stone I was definitely quite chunky. I think 11 stone 5 made my BMI just tip over from "healthy" to "overweight".

I then lost weight and went down to 9 stone and felt great.

It totally depends on your frame though. I have a small frame and not much muscle mass. If you have broad shoulders and hips, or are really fit and toned with lots of muscle, you could look and feel fine at that weight.

esk1mo · 23/08/2018 12:26

im 5ft 5 and 10 stone 2 and definitely not overweight. im a size 8/10 though and i know its mostly muscle from years of weightlifting.

Needsleepneedsleep · 23/08/2018 12:29

I am 5.8 and would love to be that weight again.

Rebecca36 · 23/08/2018 12:32

Yes, I have been there and was definitely overweight, looked chubby too.
I feel and look a lot better and more healthy with less weight.

OlderThanAverageforMN · 23/08/2018 12:43

Me too.... 5'5 and just under 11st. I would only like to go down to 10st at the minimum though as I would look very thin under that weight. I do agree with all PP's that build and distribution is also very important. I have enormous boobs which must weigh a lot (would love to know how much! ) so my clothes sizes are crazy, size 10/12 on my bottom half, 16/18 on the top. However, if I put on a 16/18, even though it fits my boobs, the body and arms are all huge, I look like I am wearing a sack.....stretchy jersey and elastic panels are my friends!

raisinsraisins · 23/08/2018 13:00

I’m 5.7 and weigh 11 stone. I’m a size 14 and currently dieting, my ideal weight is 10.4. However, my cousin is same height and weight as me but is a very slim size 10. I think it depends on your body frame, as I am quite slight with thin arms and wrists, so do look a bit overweight at 11 stone, but I definitely don’t feel huge!

mollyblack · 23/08/2018 13:05

Yes. I'm 5'6'' and I weigh just over 10st and I feel a bit overweight, 11st is very heavy for me, I feel it's bad for me being that size as I get bad pain in my knees and just feel generally flabby and unhealthy.

Gojira · 23/08/2018 13:55

Yes definitely. I'm 5'7 and actually probably more like 11.5 stone although I can't bring myself to get on the scales.

My thighs, bum and stomach are fat - no other way to describe it really!

My ideal weight it about 9.10. I felt fantastic at that weight but it's very hard to lose it right now.

actualpuffins · 23/08/2018 14:04

I'm 5'7". When I was younger I felt overweight at 11 stone, though I was 11 and a half stone when I was 16, and got down to 9 stone in my 20s. Now my goal weight is 160lbs. I'll tell you when I get there.

I don't feel hugely fat at two stone heavier TBH. I'm a size 14 (comfortably, not squeezing into it) and pretty fit, BP 110/65 and a resting HR of 56. I feel very healthy, but for the long term I'm probably better being normal BMI which is

Jaimx86 · 23/08/2018 15:37

At a bmi of 24.8, I would feel overweight. Current BMI is 23.2, and whilst I don’t feel overweight most of the time, I certainly didn’t feel slim compared to all of the slender French and Italian women on holiday. I think that the people around you can impact how overweight you feel, depending on whether you’re the slimmer one in a group of people.

sirmione16 · 23/08/2018 16:31

@Jaimx86 BMI medically becomes a concern at 30, and there's been many arguments against bmi generally

Jaimx86 · 23/08/2018 17:07

Sirmione, the Op asked if I would feel overweight - the answer is yes.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 23/08/2018 17:10

I am a couple of stone over that now as still losing my 4th pregnancy weight, but at 11st I was a size 10-12 with a tiny waist so I felt reasonably slim.

FrangipaniBlue · 22/08/2018 18:25

I'm 5' 6" and 11.5 stone which technically puts my BMI at 26.

But BMI is bollocks and you can't compare yourself to someone who is the same height and weight as you without considering body shape and lifestyle.

I'm a size 10/12 and I weight train, muscle is a lot heavier than fat which is why my BMI is high. My body fat is only 25% which is on the lower end of the healthy range for my age group.

So no, I don't feel particularly overweight and I've spent most of my holiday in shorts and a bikini top.

But someone could be the same height as me and same weight, but don't do any physical exercise so they would have a lot higher body fat % and be bigger in size than I am, so they may perhaps feel overweight.

It's apples and oranges.

I actually wondered whether I’d written this and forgotten as I’m exactly the same 😂

Most importantly I’m very fit, eat well and have no indicators of metabolic syndrome which I think are the real markers. Waist is about 30 inches but I have wide hips and a larger rib cage so not sure how much physically smaller it could get even with weight loss.

I have lots of muscle. If I stopped exercising and lost that muscle I’d probably be a ‘healthy’ bmi but I certainly wouldn’t be healthier.

Menora · 13/11/2023 13:38

I am 5’5 and 11st is my target weight. I look really nice at 11st and an easy size 12.
1.5 stone to get there now and I already do look much better than I did before
