Want to interact with others and get support/motivation for getting healthier and active, and in the process losing weight. But I absolutely don't want to hear any "diet culture", calorie counting or unhealthy disordered eating promotion. Surely I can't be the only one? Sometimes it seems like every thread I click on is just full of upsetting, unhelpful comments that sound like they could have been lifted from a thinspo website.

Hello Clara!

AF, I've just had a look at that YouTube video, and I'm going to have a go at it. Obviously I'll need to buy a round carpet first. Grin

It's also occurred to me that if I'm experimenting with walking as opposed to running, I can do it every day, which might help engrain it into my new lifestyle.

argumentativefeminist · 03/09/2018 14:57

I really enjoyed it Agatha, hope you do too! I do wish I had Jessica's round carpet though - I have only cold wooden floor 😥 Walking is easier to fit in every day and I find the logistics of "what to wear, how much will I sweat, will I need a shower and a change of clothes" less taxing with walking.

Thanks for the welcome Smile

My current focus is on booze. I'm not excessive (well I'm sure that's what everyone tells their doctor!) but I do think I should cut down. In turn I think this would help with late night snacks which I don't need! Easier said than done!

Verbena87 · 03/09/2018 18:28

agatha if running isn’t working for you definitely brisk walks, and get some hills in if possible to vary the intensity as well. And if you get your kicks from sweaty cardio and need it (some of us are wired that way) spinning/cycling does the trick without putting too much impact through knees/hips/pelvic floor.

camel love the peacock! Looking forward to seeing some flag pictures if you fancy sharing when you’re done.

af you sound chipper today - nice work Grin

And hello clara - welcome Grin

I’ve been back to work today (end of maternity leave Sad) so blooming knackered from trying to think like a functional adult all day!!

argumentativefeminist · 03/09/2018 18:34

Sounds like a good plan Clara! I did get quite bad at having much more alcohol than usual this uni year bc I lived right next to CoOp and Tesco Express so it was easy to pop out for wine and pudding when I was feeling crap. Hopefully less convenience stores this year means less random snacks.

I am pretty chipper today Verbena. Good job on your first day back! It is exhausting being a grown up, isn't it - nobody ever told me about that part! Shock

Urgh. I made the mistake of standing on the scales and after a weekend of family parties and more alcohol than normal I can see the difference.

I am generally trying to build more exercise into my routine and am also walking a bit more. I've been taking the stairs at work and today I didn't need to go into the toilets for a minute to catch my breath before going into our main office. Success!

CantankerousCamel · 03/09/2018 22:05

Well, I can’t weigh myself until Thursday but I have lost 2 inches off my ribs/stomach and arse!!

In a week! Yaaay

argumentativefeminist · 03/09/2018 22:15

Oohh apples I'm jealous of you no longer needing the post stairs moment in the loos to defluster 😂

Glad you're feeling positive Camel - remember to focus on your mind and your happiness as well, but it sounds like you're onto something that works for you.

AgathaTabithaBagatha · 04/09/2018 09:07

Well, thanks to you beeyatches I walked up the stairs to my office today. My fringe is now sticking to my forehead.

I've dusted off the Fitbit and, in the gentle and positive style of this thread, have adjusted my goals to give me a chance of success. So, 8,000 steps a day, auto recognising a walk or run of 15 minutes or longer. The plan is to up those totals when I've been consistently achieving them for a while.

Did anyone see the feature on the news about heart health? Here's the link, with a handy list of things to do. I like the way they're expressed, as they all sound achievable: www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-45395576

AgathaTabithaBagatha · 04/09/2018 09:08

By the way, is anyone getting the ads for a Kegel trainer over there --->? I think they've rumbled us. If the next one is for a shopping trolley we'll know they have. Grin

CantankerousCamel · 04/09/2018 09:11

Or cunting bunting

argumentativefeminist · 04/09/2018 09:27

That sounds like a plan Agatha! Let us know how you get on. I enjoyed reading about healthy hearts so thanks for sharing - I think more fibre will be my main take away point, although I couldn't do the heart age quiz because I'm too young 😂😇

Not getting any strange ads but I'm on mobile - maybe we should start talking about lovely Barbados holidays and hot but attainable celebrities so it gives us some nice decorations for the thread 😂

Got the beginnings of a rotten cold today. Going to sit around and be self indulgent, but hopefully get some exercise in with a dog walk and Ikea trip later.

DH’s bicycle was stolen last night :( gutted, absolutely gutted. It was his main mode of transport

argumentativefeminist · 04/09/2018 10:50

Oh Camel, I'm so sorry. 😣

OP posts:
AgathaTabithaBagatha · 04/09/2018 12:08

Oh no Camel, that's awful! Was it an expensive one?

CantankerousCamel · 04/09/2018 12:26

Yes it was £1000 initially and then he had £800 worth of upgrade on it which he forgot to tell the bloody insurance company about

argumentativefeminist · 04/09/2018 12:31

Ahhh Camel that's extra gutting 😣😣 Really hope he can get it at least a bit sorted. 💕

Been swayed by getting the Bravissimo catalogue this morning and ordered a new swimsuit with less flashing potential than my current too small bikini and a sports bra to try. Also got a new bra (with the pants!) and a soft little nonwired bralette thing for lazy days, because treat yourself. My bank balance is cringing though... still 20 days until student loan... 😣😣

I went to CrossFit today!! Yay :-)

It was really good fun and really hard work.

I’ve been good with my diet and am looking forward to dinner. I’m weighing myself later so will report back with any losses.
I may be becoming a bit ‘much’ for this group. I CrossFit 3/4 times a week when the kids are in school and with my new diet I’m not eating as much either.

Is that going to upset people?

argumentativefeminist · 04/09/2018 16:39

Camel I can't speak for other people but I'm always happy to have you here regardless of how much exercise you're doing! I would say I'd rather not see any losses or talk of weighing/dieting though - but it would be nice to hear that you were continuing to make progress or were feeling happier in your body, etc. If you feel you want to move on, then spread your wings, definitely! I hope we could help (and will continue to if you want to stay/drop in and out)!

Verbena87 · 04/09/2018 18:01

camel I’m running 3x a week now and will be looking to train for half marathon distance within the year, but I don’t feel like that means I don’t want to gossip/catch up here - and I’d love to hear how you’re getting on, fitness and bunting wise Grin

agatha no womb-trolley related ads for me but I’m also on my phone. Af I like the idea of decorating the thread with eye candy though. I feel like Tom Hardy might be a good start?

CantankerousCamel · 04/09/2018 18:08

I got a ‘visit orlando’ poster!! So the adverts for holiday wishes must have been granted a bit ;-)

PixieN · 04/09/2018 18:31

Yes to Tom Hardy! Preferably cuddling a puppy lol Grin

Back to work for me and it’s always a struggle to get back into a routine after the summer. Takes me at least a few weeks. I went to dance aerobics though last night and planning on going again later in the week.

Sounds like you’re doing brilliantly Camel Hope you stay to give us your top tips. Would like to hear how the bunting turns out too Smile

CantankerousCamel · 04/09/2018 20:39

Whoop whoop!! Stats are in!

2 inches from ribs/hips and belly

And I’ve lost 3 pounds :-)

Verbena87 · 04/09/2018 20:49

Nice work camel

And pixie yes please. One of the pleasures of being a mum is being legitimately allowed to watch him read the bedtime story (I will gloss over the amount of time I then spent considering how I could record bits of audio and mash together his “now you snuggle down and sweet dreams” from cbbc with the bit where he growls “take that fucking dress off” in Taboo for listening to in sad moments BlushGrin)

AgathaTabithaBagatha · 05/09/2018 07:44

Good morning all. 40 mins brisk walk this morning as the sun came up over the beach, all very good for the soul.
