Welcome to the brand new shiny daffodil-strewn April thread for annihilation of the Lindas.

It is a pretty high knees style of running that I do. Using the heart rate monitor is the key to it I think. If I don't watch it then it's easy to drift into a less intense style of running. Good to have found something easy, relatively enjoyable and a method of measuring it. Always wanted a treadmill at home but now I feel I don't need one. Also of course completely portable.

Kikisdeliveries · 03/04/2018 09:32

I am way behind! Thanks for the new thread boop! Will get myself re-acquainted though I fear I will not really be back until after my holiday!

FizzingWhizzbee · 03/04/2018 09:38

12st 8.6 this morning. Up on yesterday as expected, but not as bad as I was fearing. I should have a good day today and tomorrow, then I have a mummy's night out on Thursday. We're going to a diner, so lots of challenging food choices. Also, cocktails.

WeirdCatLady · 03/04/2018 11:07

Weekly weigh in this morning, another 2off so in three mo this I’ve lost 21/2 stone.

I’m very chuffed with myself for sticking to it.

QuimReaper · 03/04/2018 11:17

Hello everyone, happy April! What a lovely anniversary post paws Smile I wish I knew when I joined.

A warm, chocolatey welcome to the Best Thread on Mumsnetâ„¢ to Ellie, menace, Belonger, Weird, Nan, elizabeth, Tefal and TooSmall - very pleased to have you!

So after a 4-day indulgence fest this weekend, I'm also out next Monday, then back to normal after that. Really hope I can manage to maintain, and hoping to see a wee loss in April - my modest ambition is to be a kilo under my "goal weight" by the end of the month (was 500g under last Friday), and hoping for 1.5-2 kilos ultimately.

Speaking of goal weights, I was going to say the same thing as BOOP, Brennan - I think it's really hard to be motivated to keep losing when actually, you're happy where you are. I think plugging away for an arbitrary number gets really demoralising and is more likely to see you losing sight of your good habits. My suggestion would be to make your goals activity-based rather than weight based: just the normal things like hitting step goals, exercise targets, calorie targets, etc., but shifting your perspective so that on Friday you can say "ah, well done me, I had a successful week" without getting on the scales. I actually think you'll find the last few Lindas will actually come off by themselves if you keep it up, just really slowly.

QuimReaper · 03/04/2018 11:18

Cor WeirdCat that's tremendous, well done! How much more are you hoping to lose?

BitOutOfPractice · 03/04/2018 12:27

Just be careful with the running on the spot Tefal. Because there's so much vertical energy through the joints it can lead to injuries. It's not actually lower impact Not but yes it's better than sitting on your arse! Grin

Very well done WeirdCat that's a tremendous achievement!

I'm also back on it today. Think I'm 2ish lbs up - I'll get that off this week though I'm sure

Thanks quim. I think you're right. I think focusing on long term health is going to be my new strategy.

Mind you, I might need to have a few very disciplined days after the weekend. I accidentally found myself in a chocolate festival yesterday and it would have been rude not to support all those independent traders stood in the rain all day!

I'm home again now and all the hot cross buns are gone. I've got the rest of the week off work and I'm planning some running, walking and decorating so hopefully should undo the damage pretty quickly.

ponygirlcurtis · 03/04/2018 13:18

I have had an omelette and veg for lunch. Must. Ignore. The. Custard. Creams...

starsandstuff · 03/04/2018 14:32

My nieces are coming for a sleepover and OH went to the supermarket to get their favourite goods...and came back with a bag of Moam mix for some treats for later. Those kind of sweets - Haribo, gummy bears, cola bottles etc - are my downfall. Ok one of the many!! My sweet tooth is insatiable. So I'll need to watch myself 🙊

FizzingWhizzbee · 03/04/2018 14:44

Custard creams are my nemesis, pony. Well, one of them, anyway. I really can't have them in the house, or I WILL eat them. All of them.

Does anyone else ever wish they were one of those people? The ones who would genuinely prefer to snack on fruit rather than biscuits? Who can look at a lovely slice of chocolate cake and say 'actually, I'd rather have an apple' and really, really mean it? Who get handed a restaurant dessert menu packed full of carb and cream stuffed deliciousness and happily order the sorbet? God knows I do sometimes!

starsandstuff · 03/04/2018 15:08

Yes - people who say things like "I don't really like chocolate" - oh to be that person!

BitOutOfPractice · 03/04/2018 15:11

It's the "I see food as fuel and sometimes forget to eat" people that really amaze me. How can you forget to eat? It's impossible when you think about food as often as I do!

I used to be the kind of person who said no thanks to cake and meant it, but only because my mum bakes continuously and eating home made cake three times a day growing up put me right off the stuff.

I'm over that now, love the cake, have a price of mums apple, maple and pecan at home that I'm dreaming about. Halo

ponygirlcurtis · 03/04/2018 15:44

When I was properly in the low-carbing zone I just got out of the habit of eating sugary stuff and didn't give it a thought. Now I am very much out of the zone. I need to get back in it.

SesameSparkle · 03/04/2018 16:56

Hi guys, can I join you? I started back counting calories on mfp about 3/4 weeks ago. I'm going on my hols in May and realised none of the lovely summer clothes I bought this time last year fit me. Blush I've made a little progress and I'm down to 10-4 as of today. I think if I manage at least to shake those 4lbs during April, to get to an even 10, I should be able to wear most things. I'm just needing a wee bit of extra support and accountability so I'm back to mn to hopefully give me a boost. Smile

MajestyRoyal · 03/04/2018 18:10

To all the evening snickers - I am the exact same. Try a hot drink with a small snack. I have a hot chocolate (I think it's options?? The low cal one) and two chocolate digestives. Makes me feel like it's a real treat and it keeps my hands occupied while I sit watching telly do important things of an evening.

I used to (before pregnancy fucked up my core strength) plank during adverts. The whole duration, I was really good at it! Could plank for 8+ minutes easily without breaking a sweat or feeling a 'burn' and had brilliant flexibility because I would do stretches through the day without noticing. Anyone seen the pic of posh spice with one leg in the air while texting? That was me a few years back Grin

I am .5 pound up from before Easter. But still a total loss of 5 pounds. Going to start calorie counting tomorrow, I've just been controlling portions atm. Loads of gardening done today so there was some exercise at least. Welcome all newbies. Let's hope April brings loads of losses and whooshes.

I was also one of the eat-to-live people. I could very happily live off an apple and a black coffee until tea time and not feel any hunger. I could get full from a cup of water. After DC I would snack and snack and snack to keep energy up and it's now a disgustingly bad habit which I hate! I need to go back to my old self with my better eating habits.

I think I'm the only poster on here to hate custard creams

BitOutOfPractice · 03/04/2018 18:16

"early evening snickers" Grin

I wouldn't bite your hand off for a custard creme either

Seseme you are very welcome. Hope we can help you along the way.

Thanks for the new thread @BOOP.

Well I made it through Easter with the damage of only 1 egg...a munchies one Grin. Good gym workout this morning before work and have only consumed 550 cals so far today.

Hope to make April a good month and to hit my goal. We got this guys!

Ofthread · 03/04/2018 18:45

Hi guys, I slipped off. Having an awful time at the moment related to ex. Anxiety, depression, the full works. Not really eating but have put on 2 lindas which is what happens when I'm pretty much immobile.

Will come back when I'm feeling better. Lots of spring Flowers to you all.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/04/2018 18:47

Oh no offrhread I'm sorry to hear you're struggling at the moment. Take care of yourself and don't be a stranger Thanks

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 03/04/2018 18:47

And well done on limiting the damage Judy

OP posts:
MajestyRoyal · 03/04/2018 18:53

Ffs that should have been snackers of course. However a snickers as your evening snack for the snackers will be ok if in calorie allowance..

MajestyRoyal · 03/04/2018 18:59

@Ofthread it's okay to get low every so often please don't feel like you have to keep up appearances. Mental health is just as important as physical. Try to keep hydrated and have small bites to eat, maybe even have a quick shower and change clothes if you can get the energy to do so. You will be on your feet in no time, depressive episodes do pass as I'm sure you know, it's just a waiting game (a horrible one) and do try to hate the illness and not yourself Thanks sending love Easter Smile
