... then if exercise is causing extreme hunger, should you stop/ cut down?

I’m doing Insanity Max 30 and I’m soooo frigging hungry, it’s actually painful. It’s like I can’t get full.

So is it better to eat more, cut down the exercise or ignore the hunger?

I’ve been trying to ignore it, but I’ve actually put on 4lbs since starting Insanity although I’m unsure if that’s muscle, so I think I’ve been overeating at meal times.

WWYD?

Have something more substantial for lunch, and then something healthier and less carb loaded for dinner. What about taking some soup in a thermos for your lunch? Or some kind of sandwich/salad?

TalkinPeace · 14/03/2018 21:43

twer
0% Greek yog has no sugar or sweeteners or anything like that.
What IS in it then ?
I'm not a dietician but im pretty sure a lot of full fat yog plus a dinner such as fried rice/bolognese isn't going to help you lose weight...
Too right you are not

Trialsmum · 14/03/2018 21:43

That sounds perfect thank you @Talkinpeace 😊

I’ve got a thermos that I can put pasta it and the lid turns it into a bowl so good to eat when out and about

twer · 14/03/2018 21:48

Pasteurised skimmed milk and live yoghurt cultures?
Can't see any added sugar/sweeteners.

OP, what time of day do you do Insanity?
I remember giving it a go years ago and I was always famished after. Is it that you're doing it in the morning and not furling after properly til teatime?

(P.s. don't think I lasted past day 6!) Grin

ShortandAnnoying · 14/03/2018 21:51

I like the no S diet. It's all about moderation and habit. The no S answer to this would be having a more substantial breakfast and lunch.

twer · 14/03/2018 21:51

*fueling. Lol

Trialsmum · 14/03/2018 21:52

@twer in the evening once ds is in bed. I’m glad someone else found they’re starving after!

How do they get it to set without fats or sugars ?

I have a VERY BIG problem with such manufactured foods.
Full fat yoghurt is all of 5% after all

CandyMelts · 14/03/2018 22:16

0% natural yogurt is made with lower fat milk TalkinPeace, nothing is added Hmm
You might be thinking of flavoured low fat yogurts with sweeteners etc.

CandyMelts · 14/03/2018 22:18

Cross post... the cultures are what thicken the yogurt. It is no more manufactured than your full fat yogurt

brownelephant · 14/03/2018 22:20

change you exercise.
insanity is insane.
something gentler 20-30min a day is easier to keep up and you are less likely to injure yourself.

I lost weight with WW when they did the points system with points-free food and I found unlimited amounts of veg kept me full. Basically any kind of veg (except for peas, sweetcorn and avocados, which are all fine to eat in smaller quantities) can be eaten in whatever quantity satisfies you. Idk if WW still takes this view, their focus seems to be more on processed food now, but it's still my #1 strategy for keeping my weight stable. I hate being hungry, it's not a sustainable way to live.

If you have spag bol for dinner, try a side of broccoli, green beans, carrots, roasted tomatoes or whatever you enjoy. Or fill the sauce with veg, you can add carrots, fennel, tomatoes, spinach etc without it changing the flavour too much (I'd add lentils as well for bulk but that's just me). Aim for 50-70% of the plate to be veg.

I understand that you need to enjoy eating veg for this to work, horses for courses etc.

MikeUniformMike · 14/03/2018 22:24

Try eating properly. Lots of veg with a bit of protein and fat. You will feel nice and full for ages.
You can eat precooked food like omelette or frittata, boiled egg and salad etc cold. Eat your main meal earlier.

makingmiracles · 14/03/2018 22:28

Personally I’d say more protein during the day is needed
B/f depending on what you can stomach- scrambled egg And bacon/omelette/full fat Greek yogurt with berries but add nuts too

Lunch lettuce leaf wrap with advocado and bacon/lettuce leaf wrap with full fat Philadelphia/mixed salad with advocado/ boiled egg salad

I’d go less carby at night too, again concentrating on fat/protein
Salmon fillet on advocado mash/ advocado And poached eggs/ spag Bol on cauli rice/ turkey curry on cauli rice/ sausages, cauli mash and green beans etc etc

It’s hard when you have no time or place to prep food in the day but prep really is the key!

PrimalLass · 14/03/2018 22:32

It's not surprising you are hungry.

ShortandAnnoying · 14/03/2018 22:38

Even though you arent supposed to snack on No S you can have 4 meals a day if you need to have something after your workout. Just balance your meals out to allow for that.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 14/03/2018 22:43

You need to eat more during the days (yoghurt and fruit won’t cut it) and have a lighter dinner/ supper. Your biggest meal seems to be in the evening.

MagentaRocks · 14/03/2018 22:45

Agree more protein. I am losing a lot of weight and doing a lot of exercise. I eat full fat foods but pick the right foods that keep me full. Eggs are good, cheese but portion it out, nuts etc. I’m less hungry than when I used to eat all the low fat stuff. I start to get hungry close to meal times. I snack on carrot and cucumber sticks when on a later shift so going to bed ages after my evening meal.

TalkinPeace · 15/03/2018 08:23

Lots of the meal ideas do not take into account that the OP clearly works from her car all day.
Nothing cooked, nothing cutlery, nothing fragile.

What might work though is a thermos of chunky soup in the ten minute break ..... warm and filling.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 15/03/2018 08:29

How much are you trying to lose? What bmi.do you have?

I do 1-2 hours exercise a day (typically 1 hr dog walking and 1 hour cardio or swimming) and need carbs to stop me blacking out (I have fainted on low carb). So I tend to have oats for breakfast and brown bread/potato for lunch.

Bmi 23

Would not mind trimming a bit of my belly fat but just cannot do the low carb thing, literally my vision gets wonky, then black = blackout

fishonabicycle · 15/03/2018 11:36

A wrap with beans, cheese, meat fish etc is portable.

humblebumble · 15/03/2018 11:56

Perhaps you could try eating some vegetables during the day.

Instead of yogurt with berries, how about a spoonful of hummus with carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, red peppers, cucumbers, etc or with cottage cheese? Or a spoonful of peanut or almond butter with celery, etc. Or an apple with a handful of nuts (almonds, walnuts, Brazil nuts and seeds, etc)

Trialsmum · 15/03/2018 21:39

Thanks everyone, I think you’re right, I need to up my food intake during the day and eat less at night.

I’ve bought lots of salady/ vegetably bits and some yummy nuts.

Got some peanut butter too, I loooove peanut butter!

I also can’t take sandwiches to work because I can’t eat gluten and gluten free bread is minging ( all the other gluten free stuff I’ve tried has been fine).
