At least I wasn't last! Couldn't believe I had 2 great days and then the rest was rubbish. So far this week I've one good day and one rubbish day but...this thing is also the environment! we got in the car to go swimming on Friday and DS1 pointed out that we hadn't been in it since the weekend - not bad! (also - all our activities have finished for summer which might explain it )

Tommy · 01/08/2004 21:56

sorry that should "good for the environment"

spod75 · 01/08/2004 22:49

Well done everyone. I have found that this has really been an incentive, twice this week I wouldn't have bothered going for a walk but it's made me go the long way round to the shops. Can I keep it up though?

Spod

ponygirl · 02/08/2004 23:09

Sorry, only just found the thread (durrr). I'm at the bottom this week: 41,000.

Chinchilla · 03/08/2004 21:15

I got my pedometer on Friday, and have done at least 10,000 each day. Today, I did 14,500 steps, plus whatever I did in the house after I got in from town (not sure whether to count these - please could someone let me know?)

MadameButterfly · 03/08/2004 21:18

Chinchilla,

I put my pedometer on when I get dressed and take it off just before I go to bed. So in answer to your question, YES, count what you do about the house as well.

champs · 04/08/2004 01:20

sorry guys but I posted this on lasts weeks thread just now by accident, thought I'd add it here:
Dont know if this has been said already but mc donalds are giving away a stepometer(pedometer) with a premium salad and drink for £3.99

Tommy · 04/08/2004 10:54

I have discovered something very important....if your pedometer unclips itself from your knickers (where you are wearing it because you have a nightshirt on)and falls into the toilet - it doesn't work anymore

CP3 · 04/08/2004 14:51

PMSL Tommy and lol at champs too. we are on a wieght loss thread and she brings up McDonalds .

I have broke My argos pedometer again, 3rd time now, so im having to estimate and do loads on my stepper. Does anyone else keep snapping, its a pain

champs · 04/08/2004 15:34

ooops!! you can tell how good i am at diet lol, but it is a salad that it comes with

rooster · 04/08/2004 18:26

How do I go about joining this thread, only got my stepometer yesterday and have currently done 19,146 steps.

Today, it was chucking it down with rain and normally I would stay in, but no, I got the kids to put there wellies on and we went puddle splashing just so I could step some more - it certainly makes you walk more.

Chinchilla · 04/08/2004 19:53

Thanks MB. I did 8,700 steps without counting the house and 'non-effort' walking around. So I must have hit 10,000 today.

Tommy - I dropped my Kelloggs one in my friend's paddling pool, but it dried out, and now works again. Have you tried taking the back off, and putting it in the sun to dry?

Tommy · 04/08/2004 21:39

Chinchilla - I took the battery out and left it in bits over night but it still didn't work but I did buy a new one today although all these new people coming on board seem to do loads and I'm struggling with my little aim of 7000 a day

Earlybird · 04/08/2004 22:05

Well - I must be doing something seriously wrong if many of you are getting up towards 10,000 steps just walking around the house and non-effort walking around. I make it to about 5,000 on that basis by the end of a day. But, to get close to 10,000 steps I have to also fit in a fairly substantial walk too. For example, today I walked around the house all day (of course!), and walked to/from the playground with dd. Walk took about 20 minutes at a brisk pace each way.......and then of course there was the general running around at the playground too. And with all that, I am now just at 10,407 for the day. But, as I have said before, I question if I have programmed the pedometer to measure my stride/steps correctly.....

Earlybird - I said that I did 8,700 steps without non-effort walking. That usually comes to about 2-3,000. I too have to make an extra effort to make sure I get over 10,000 steps.

Tommy · 05/08/2004 22:15

Chinchilla - left it all day and now it works again! Now I have 2! Today has been SUCH a rubbish day as far as steps go that perhaps I should have put both of them on and counted them! I drove to ferry terminal, got on a ferry, got picked up on other side, drove to friend's house, sat in garden all day and then did reverse. I can't believe how few steps I've done! 'll probably have to run up and down the stairs a few times before bed!

monkey · 06/08/2004 15:15

an I join in? Just got one but it doesn't seem to count every step - at best every other one. Does anyone know if this is due to where I'm wearing it (by a hip bone) or how it's programmed?

btw, well done to all getting over 10,000 - I take it that's some recognised target or what mumsnetters have set?

MadameButterfly · 06/08/2004 15:24

Hi there monkey.

It may be where you have it positioned. mine is a little to the left of the centre of waistband.

I have managed to do 12,000 today, it is the 1st time this week that I have got over 10,000. I am usually lucky to get to 5,000 unless I am going into town.

MadameButterfly · 06/08/2004 15:25

The 10,000 target is recommended for healthy lifestyle. (as seen on Special K boxes and advertised in other places as well)

bran · 06/08/2004 16:02

Can I join? I bought a pedometer on Wednesday, I'm finding it hard to get used to though. I find it very uncomfortable when sitting to have it at the front of my waistband, but when I attached it at the back it only counted 400 steps for my commute to work (it was over 1,000 when worn a the front). Any hints?

CP3 · 06/08/2004 16:04

Put on your hip bran or it will count wrong

OP posts:
bran · 06/08/2004 20:57

So CP3 what do you do about it digging in when you sit down, or bend over to pick something up? I'm sure some of my problem is bad posture, but I think the fact that my spare tyre is more of great big multi-wheel lorry tyre than a car tyre is the biggest problem. Do you take yours off when you sit down in front of the computer?

Tommy · 06/08/2004 21:28

Mine just sort of stays there and doesn't get in the way (except when it falls down the toilet ) bran - do you have facing out or in?
