Lighter Life Experts - just wondered if you can share what is involved in the Medical

Hi there
I am starting Lighter Life later this year. My friend is on it and has given me the inspiration to join her.
I know you have to have a pre-LL Medical plus other medicals during the program.
The only reason I ask is I suffer incredibly badly from White Coat Syndrome - I haven't had high BP except in pregnancy when check by the consultant - it went so high it broke the machine! 10 mins later it was taken by 2 separate midwifes and was completley normal again.
I just want to know what to expect so that perhaps I can get the nurse to do the BP seperately and pass the info over to the doctor.
THanks loads x x x

My MIL did it and as far as I know, all she had to do was have her BP taken, weighed and was told to stop taking her Cholesterol tablets.

Good luck with it. Its an amazing diet and the difference in my MIL is unreal. Shes nearly lost 4 stone since October.

aznerak · 27/03/2007 09:57

Thanks for that Nbg. I am not starting until September as I am spending 5 weeks in the summer abroad and feel that to embark on something this life-changing needs to be done when the time is right.
I have my introductory meeting in 3 weeks but have a few months to get myself ready!

The medical is no big deal - they quite literally just take your blood pressure and fill in a form - some of the ladies in my group had it done with the practice nurse - I saw the doctor but I don't think a doctor is essential - ask at the introductory meeting, just in case your counsellor has a preference.

All the best.

Thanks for that MC. I will certainly ask at the intro meeting as it'll be SO much better if I can just see the nurse!
Are you doing LL or CD out of interest? How are you finding it?

Wow well done Yorkiegirl. My friend started LL the week after you and has lost 56lbs - it really is incredible. How much more do you realistically hope to lose? Will you extend the foundation stage or stop after 100 days? Which shakes, soups, bars are ok or horrid?
Glad you agree with the delay to get your head round it!

oooh -muffins sound interesting, never heard of them. Do you make them or something? What water flavours do they do?
You are doing amazingly - well done and keep it up .

My mil was told that if you make the soups into a thick paste, then spread onto GP paper and microwave or oven cook, they turn into crisps. Makes a nice change to the soups.

She was a bit upset as shed got to week 12 of the maintenence but it was her birthday and over did it a tad so put on 5lb. She was gutted and had to back to week 3 and drinking 3 litres of water again.
Although now shes up to week 5 and is having chicken, salad and cooked veg

How you finding the water intake yorkie?

Awww well done!
I bet you feel a massive sense of achievement dont you.

Its changed my MIL's life totally.

mummycan · 29/03/2007 16:12

Hi aznerak - I am doing LL - it's fine but a bit boring but the weight definitely comes off. Yorkiegirl told me to drink more water and she is right - much better weight loss when I drank 6 litres a day. The hardest part for me is still drinking all the water - I just forget.

Good luck - you won't regret it.

aznerak · 29/03/2007 16:51

Hi mummycan!
Well done - how are you doing? Which shakes/soups etc do you recommend? Do you have any tips for the water consumption - I am a bit worried as I hardly drink anything now (apart from lots of wine on a Saturday night which will be sorely missed but worth it of course!)
Keep it up!

I have rasperry or chocolate shake, mushroom and thai chili soup (with Tabasco) and a mixture of bars - i have develped a taste for the nut ones although at first they made me feel sick - I now find that I don't want very many sweet things so I have 4 nut and three other bars through the week (you can only have one bar a day).

Re the water - no great tips I'm afraid - you kust have to do it although if you drink it earlier in the day it's easier - having said that it's midday and I haven't had any water yet- I KNOW what I should do just have difficulty putting it into practice.

All the best.

PS - How are you doing Yorkiegirl?

aznerak · 30/03/2007 12:27

Well done mummycan. I know you get the weekly meetings but I think logging onto MN and chatting to other mums doing LL must really help.
Bring on September - when I start - hope I am as successful as you all are.
Keep it up x x x

Fantastic Yorkie - you must be so pleased!!

mummycan · 14/04/2007 22:31

How is everyone doing? - I am really struggling with the water.

I was away last week and although it was hard I stuck to it - hopefully will have a good two week loss on Monday

mummycan · 16/04/2007 22:43

Had my weigh in tonight - have now lost 26 lbs.

How is everyone else doing?

What a fantastic achievement Yorkiegirl - sounds like you're still really motivated. I was getting bored when i was away over easter as everyone around me was eating fish and chips and cheese and drinking red wine and champagne and my weight loss wasn't fantastic when I got back.

Feeling a bit better this week but I feel at a dangerous stage as people are noticing and complimenting me and all my clothes are too big - easy to feel that's enough but I would still like to lose another 2 stone so I need need to keep motivated.

Well done you.

aznerak · 22/04/2007 11:25

You are all doing brilliantly! YG - wow. I can't wait to get started later in the year. I had to miss my introductory evening on Friday as I had some hideous vomiting bug but as I am not starting until Sept 2nd, I have plenty of time to get myself sorted with another date.
My friend has just finished her 100 days and has lost 5 stone. It is sensational. The thing that astounds me more than her actual weight loss is her measurements. She has lost over a foot off of her waist measurement. It is truly incredible.
Mummycan - complete sympathise with how difficult it must have been over Easter. That is why I am waiting until September, as I am spending 5 weeks abroad over the summer and just thought it would be too awful.
Keep it up though, you will be so happy come the end.
