Neris & India's Idiot Proof Diet - Anyone else trying this ?

Tillyboo · 22/03/2007 00:18

I've been doing this diet since about the 12th feb and have lost 8lb's so far.
My dd is almost 3 and I've never really lost my tummy - after being very slim pre-pregnancy.

I've tried weightwatchers and slimming world and the original Atkins but couldn't maintain any of them AND so didn't lose anything.

I'm a bit disappointed with the weight loss on this eating plan so far but to put it into perspective ....

  1. I want to lose 19lbs in total so 8lbs is a steady healthy weight loss in the time I have been doing it
  2. I've lost 6cm off my tummy
  3. 6cm off my waist
  4. 4cm off my hips
  5. 2cm off each arm

I find not being allowed fruit yet very difficult and I love nice bread but on the whole I'm sticking to it. I'm currently in Phase 2 - Linseed Oil bread week. ugh!

You have to have willpower but at least you can eat Green & Blacks Dark Choc !!!!

i looked at it... too brutal for me.

trillium · 23/03/2007 07:20

I've followed a low carb diet since Jan 06 and have lost 2 stone up to now.

I read this book, and now do a sort of hybrid of the two diets (tbh it is just another low carb diet and they say as much)

I've introduced things like more nuts, and butternut squash soup (yummy) and am sticking to it fine.

Like you I do miss the fruit though and crave grapefruits.

I've still got another 2 stone to lose, and although I too would prefer to lose quicker, I feel that this is an acceptable speed to lose at, and I stand more chance of keeping it off.

I do allow myself a week off at Christmas, a day off at Easter and a fortnight off in summer.

I have no trouble getting back into it though as it does show results.

Also while trying to lose weight I find that I can stick to the stricter version better. I'm obviously an all or nothing type .

Good luck.

Tillyboo · 23/03/2007 08:18

Well done you ! Good luck with maintaining it, it does feel more of an eating plan rather than a diet so that's why I think it's easier to stick to.
I do cheat with a biccy or extra bit of choccy sometimes but have not had potatoes, rice or pasta at al since I started & I don't miss them at all.
Our evening meal consists of meat, fish or poultry with just a huge pile of green veg and a sauce, yummy !

I am eating low carb now and since september have lost 2.5 stone,so not super fast.If you only have to lose 19lbs ,you are doing really well.Much harder to lose weight when you haven't as much to lose.
I have another 2 I reckon but it's really slow now but I don't really mind as my body shape is changing.
Are you exercising aswell?I found doing weights(body pump class) has really helped.

Berrie · 23/03/2007 08:48

I bought it but since I'm breast feeding it's not really suitable. Have you seen the website? The discussion board was what made me buy the book, I wanted to be in that club and talk to India Knight too!

ZZMum · 23/03/2007 14:49

I am on it and I love the website so much good stuff on there have picked up some great tips... teh aspirin face mask is fab and the clinique lipstick recommended has been my all time best make up buy... really recommend it -- but the diet is a lot harder than the book makes out... and I have a horrible feeling they did not lose as much as they said as the before and after pictures do not realy look 5 stones lighter... but all that aside, the forum os good and the support is excellent..

Berrie · 23/03/2007 14:53

Oh I'm glad you said that as I didn't think they looked 5 stones lighter either, though i did see India on the Wright Stuff saying that when the pictures were taken they'd already lost a stone and a half. But then I also remeber reading in her column that she was off to some health farm before the pictures were taken which didn't seem to fit in with the magical nature of the diet.
I really have to do something as I am slowly getting bigger...

suzywong · 25/05/2008 12:22

so, all those people who posted on this thread 15+ months ago, how are you doing now?
If you could go back in time would you
a) cyclone-proof Rangoon and quake proof that town in China
b) tell yourself not to bother with the India diet
c) egg yourself on and tell yourself it was life-changing and all worth it?

discuss

suzywong · 25/05/2008 14:14

well I'm utterly entrenched in the IPD forum now. New BFF and everything.
Tell me, does India Knight MN, she bloody so does I reckon? I just want to know so as to avoid regurgitating any gems of biting wit I drop on here, as she's bound to hang on my everyword

NOT

ColumboEtc · 26/05/2008 21:40

I saw them on a clip on MSN tarting the book in America, and to be honest they still looked pretty porky to me. For eg, India said she was 16 stone at the start of the diet and lost 5 stone - making her 11 stone. OK, well I weigh 11 st 4 and she is a LOT taller than me so by rights she would appear much slimmer...but she looks like she is carrying a lot more weight than I am, several stones in fact, even allowing for the whole "TV makes you gain 10lb" thing. I know that probably sounds awful, and I wouldn't normally comment on someones weight/appearance like that but if you're going to go public about your weight loss and sell diet books on the back of it that's the problem isn't it? People are going to notice if you've gained weight etc.

ColumboEtc · 26/05/2008 21:41

eeps how rude of me to use the word porky. V. bad Columbo. But in my defence, it's how I refer to myself.

ColumboEtc · 26/05/2008 21:46

suzywong I also visit that website but find it a bit "in the beginning was the word, and the word was the IPD, and it was good, and it shall not be contradicted". Some good advice though.

oggsfrog · 26/05/2008 21:50

Bloody hell . I was posting as Trillium back then.

I re-gained the 2 stone I lost and am currently cheating on trying the Cambridge Diet.

It makes me both sad and annoyed that I've spent so long trying and failing to lose weight.

AitchTwoOh · 29/03/2009 23:56

okay chaps... tell all. i'm thinking of doing this, my pal swears by it. has ANYONE tried it and would recommend it?

AitchTwoOh · 30/03/2009 20:10

no-one?

AitchTwoOh · 31/03/2009 11:21

okay this does NOT bode well...

CountessDracula · 31/03/2009 11:24

aitch it is bound to be shite
just eat less food
and more healthy food
and cut out carbs in the evening
and do more exercise
and SAVE YOUR MONEY don't buy this silly book
it is NOT rocket science

AitchTwoOh · 31/03/2009 12:40

no no, i've read it. it's basically atkins. (actually the book is quite good on the head stuff, and well written, and i borrowed it, so my conscience is clear).

i don't doubt that ketosis etc works (not tried it, but it's SCIENCE), what i doubt is that having lost weight i would be able to stick to such a low carby lifestyle, and it does seem like you ahve to.

oggsfrog having lost two stone and put it on again, for example, doesn't sound too good...

CountessDracula · 31/03/2009 14:51

quite
so do the things I SAY and lose it slowly and steadily and you won't put it back on

CountessDracula · 31/03/2009 14:52

and you won't have dogbreath and constipation

procrastinatingparent · 31/03/2009 15:00

I haven't been doing this diet but I did lose more than 3 and half stones last autumn by not eating carbs.

And yes, since Christmas I have put a stone and a bit back on by eating whatever I wanted. Which included an awful lot of very bad carbohydrates.

Agree totally with CD that slower is better and exercise is good.

I also think that sugar is my crack and therefore I have to decide if I want anything other than low-GI carbs in my life at all, because once I get the taste for anything else I find it hard to stop.

Not sure that helps you much though.

CountessDracula · 31/03/2009 15:01

have you tried Agave Nectar?
We use instead of sugar on porridge, in coffee etc and it is low gi and mega sweet so you only need a weeny bit

procrastinatingparent · 31/03/2009 15:09

Good tip: I shall have to try some. Where do you get it from?

And do they make chocolate out of it?

AitchTwoOh · 31/03/2009 16:22

but i don't want to be sensible... i want to SHRINK. the book keeps saying i'll SHRINK.

procrastinatingparent · 31/03/2009 16:46

Well, I wasn't sensible. I ate one meal a day, very few carbs, loads of protein, no breakfast, no dinner, all the coke zero I could drink, and did no exercise. (Did eat fruit and vegetables with meals though - would die if I had no fruit.) And I shrank more than 3 and a half stone (did I mention that before? ).

But I have put some on again. Obviously if I had gradually moved onto a sensible diet rather than a chocolate and hot cross bun eating diet, I might have kept it all off.

The dreary thing is: you have to eat less and exercise more, I know that. But I do believe in this ketosis thing because it did fall off me.

For me the choice is: life eating mostly chicken and only sugar on very rare occasions and therefore being able to go shopping for clothes I like. Or eat what I want and boycott summer and never buy any nice clothes again.

I hate that I have to make the choice but I fear I do.
