Am I eating too much fruit and therefore not losing weight?

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone here could help me answer the question of why I'm not losing weight (and always feel hungry!).
I currently weigh 11 st (70 kgs) but ideally would like to get rid of 11 pounds. My weight seems to be stuck and fluctuates between 68-70kgs (and has been like that for at least a year). I don't feel overweight, but I used to be slimmer (before DD) and just want to feel better about my shape.
I exercise (usually a mix of HIIT, weights, some cardio, but not too much unless I go for a run) usually 3-4 times a week for about 40 mins (can only do evenings after DD goes to bed)
I don't smoke, barely ever drink alcohol (I'd say once a month), barely ever (less than once in two months) get a takeaway. I don't eat out, cook all my lunches (bar an occasional sushi from Wasabi once every fortnight) and dinners from scratch. Don't keep any sweets at home and I don't really eat any sugary snacks/fizzy drinks etc.
I would say I eat clean and healthy most of the time with an occasional treat once in a while. Yet I'm not losing weight and feel like I'm hungry all the time so feel like snacking at work (doesn't help we're not too busy at the moment, I don't do a lot of snacking when busy!).

I usually have:
Breakfast: overnight oats with chia seeds, almond/cashew/coconut milk and some berries (plus 1 Tbsp honey or agave for sweetness) or smoothie (usually banana plus some frozen fruit and almond milk) -
with homemade granola (1/3 cup). On Sat/Sun I'd have some boiled or scrambled eggs, rye bread and avocado instead :D Love my eggs and avocado!
Snack: carrots and houmous (about 1 heaped Tbsp so it's not like I'm pigging out!) or cucumber and cottage cheese
Lunch: usually a salad made at home: e.g. roasted sweet potato, spinach, tomatoes, avocado, some black beans, a bit of olive oil or I'll have a salad with brown rice, edamame, spinach, avocado and smoked salmon with a tamari dressing. That kind of stuff.
Snack: greek yoghurt with berries and honey usually
Dinner: either some made turkey meatballs with tomato sauce and wholemeal pasta or turkey chilli with avocado and brown rice or some salmon and prawn curry with mange tout and courgette etc.
Snack (I am starving after exercising): sometimes greek yoghurt with berries, sometimes banana with peanut butter, sometimes apple.

I can see from this that I might be eating too much fruit.
I also drink lots of water and green tea (no black tea and only occasionally coffee). Where am I going wrong? I'm tempted to see a nutritionist/dietitian but scared I'll spend money to hear I need to eat wholemeal rather than white carbs, no processed food, no sugar etc, which is something I already know hmm

I'd be grateful for any feedback, I'm getting sick and tired of reading stories of people who give up one thing and miraculously lose weight!

I also have a tendency to overeat healthy things! Try logging it all in my MyFitnessPal and you might get a shock at home many calories you are consuming! It can be useful to help work out a appropriate portion size

foodiefil · 25/06/2017 19:54

Your dinner looks gorgeous! And healthy 👍🏽

Sammysquiz · 25/06/2017 20:04

There's some dodgy science spouted on this thread!

OP I think your diet sounds great - full of healthy interesting food. How tall are you? 11 stone is a perfectly fine weight if you're quite tall?!

TittyGolightly · 25/06/2017 20:48

There's some dodgy science spouted on this thread!

How helpful. Hmm

NameChanger22 · 25/06/2017 20:54

The only way I've ever lost weight is by eating next to nothing i.e. two tiny meals a day.

Marushka82 · 26/06/2017 06:27

Sammy I'm 5 ft 7 so not that tall!

Re Mosley's science- see what Dr Varady had to say about his misuse of her research in his bestselling fasting book.

He's peddled a fasting diet, a starvation diet and now a "healthy gut" diet. Fair play to him- he's selling a lot of books. And many seem to find him and his "science" plausible.

TittyGolightly · 26/06/2017 09:05

I didn't take Mosely's book on face value (I can't bear him) - I went directly to Prof Roy Taylor's research after reading it (and various other research papers).

Marushka82 · 26/06/2017 09:15

Ok guys my food today (should fit within 1400 cals and less than 100g carbs - I'm tracking on NutraCheck).
B: 2 scrambled eggs (no butter, no milk) with red peppers and tomatoes plus a slice of toasted rye bread (the Schneiderbrot one), 150g kefir
S: cucumber and 60g low fat cottage cheese
L: smoked salmon (70g) with quarter avocado, spinach, spring onions, green beans and tenderstem broccoli and a splash of tamari, miso soup
S: 100g raspberries and 15g peanut butter
D: roasted salmon glazed with tamari and roasted aubergine (half) with tenderstem broccoli and green beans
Lots of water and green tea.
Currently clocking 1273 cals and 70.3 g carbs (acc. to other trackers I've exceeded fat for the day) - obv salmon and I wouldn't usually have salmon twice a day!
Does this look better?

where do you buy kefir and do you found it beneficial, i have never heard of it before, so had to do a quick google of it, is it just like a yoghurt drink ?

Marushka82 · 26/06/2017 13:59

Stripedknee I get it in the Polish section of Tesco (I'm Polish and have been drinking it since childhood so I'm used to it Grin
It is a slightly more sour yoghurt drink (pourable consistency if that makes sense). It's low in cals and a good probiotic (I read a bit recently about gut health and probiotics so I thought I'd add some hehe). I think of you never had it before it takes a bit of getting used to as it's a bit more sour than a natural yoghurt for example, but really tasty and refreshing, especially straight from the fridge (it's a summer staple in many Polish houses, and very often served as a side drink to a dish of boiled new potatoes, green beans and sunny side up eggs - sounds weird but it's delicious!). I hope this helps a bit! They sell it in small containers too if you want to give it a try, it's cheap as chips.

Good to see people still talk a load of shit on these diet threads!!

I am always so shocked that people feel they have something to add when it's clearly pure and utter crap they are spouting....

RodeoDriveBaby · 26/06/2017 15:40

So do people think low carb high fat diets are a load of rubbish then?

honeyroar · 26/06/2017 17:55

What dress size are you at that height? I wouldn't be more than a size 12 at that height and am an inch shorter than you. Perhaps this is a good weight for your body?

I have been eating very similarly to you since Jan and have slowly but surely lost 24lbs. I've eaten loads of fruit (often with full fat greek yoghurt, I adore it!) and not cut back on carbs or portions particularly. The only difference really is I avoid honey mostly and would only eat fruit whole rather than in smoothies.

BeautyOnTheInside · 26/06/2017 18:10

@Loubilou09

What advice do you mean you find to be rubbish?

yumyumpoppycat · 26/06/2017 19:53

Rivers blood sugar diet brought me down from obese to healthy, I have put some weight back on but am still in the healthy range. I wasn't starving when doing it as there is a big emphasis on getting as much nutrition as possible from eating lots of veg, protein, some legumes, healthy fats like oily fish and greek yog. and v small amounts of wholegrains. Lots of people have had a similar result.

Having said all that the OP is a healthy weight range and has made no mention of prediabetic symptoms so it's not a diet she should do, I think BSD was only mentioned because she is eating 6 meals/ snacks a day which is quite a lot of food.

Marushka82 · 27/06/2017 09:39

Honeyroar I'm size 10-12 which is fine, but I don't feel that comfortable in my skin!

Day 2 of my overhaul and I'm having:

B: Skyr natural yoghurt with milled flaxseed, chia seeds, half banana and raspberries (very weird not having honey in there!)
Snack: cucumber and cottage cheese (50g)
L: same as yesterday - smoked salmon, spinach, quarter avocado, broccoli and green beans with a dash of tamari sauce
S: kefir and raspberries
D: Madeleine Shaw's aubergine stew with cauliflower rice

Weighed myself and I'm 69kg (the carby bloat is gone Grin

toffeeboffin · 27/06/2017 16:32

Food looks good marushka.

Not sure why people are spouting 'it's an acceptable weight ' Hmm if the OP was fine with her weight she wouldn't be posting!

yumyumpoppycat · 27/06/2017 16:44

Maruska I am similar 10 -12 so in theory could just maintain but I think ideal for me is a comfy size 10 (54ft 4) and want to lose a bit more. I think I will make your breakfast tomorrow, sounds yum and I have a massive punnet of rasberries to use, greek yog and flaxseeds - so thanks for inspiration!

Are you feeling more/less hungry?

Marushka82 · 27/06/2017 16:56

Hi Yumyum, glad to be of service! I have to say I don't feel very hungry which is great. I have about 180 cals left for today so might have a protein shake after my workout. I have succumbed to the humus crisps today (probs better than normal ones but still! So many carbs aaahh.)

OP posts:
Marushka82 · 27/06/2017 19:03

Omg that aubergine stew and cauliflower rice was so so yummy! If you Google Madeline Shaw aubergine stew it's the first link (I added a tin of chickpeas and not nearly as much coconut oil. Reduced proportions by half and had enough for dinner for DH and myself and lunch tomorrow! Mmmm

OP posts:
yumyumpoppycat · 27/06/2017 20:42

Actually I have her book at the mo from the library and that stew is in the book - good to hear of a recipe that's worth a try -I will have to buy some aubergines.

Never heard of humus crisps but just googled them - surely the chickpeas add some protein ;) Well done Marushka looks like you will be giving all of us tips now!

Marushka82 · 28/06/2017 10:20

Yumyum try the stew, it's very tasty and easy! I was a bit iffy about the cauliflower rice but it was yummy too and worked well with the stew.
There are also quinoa crisps in the same range - my friend and I developed a serious addiction to these!
Today I'm having:
B: 2 x scrambled eggs (no milk, no butter, just a few sprays of oil), with serrano ham, reduced sugar baked beans (half a small can) and tomatoes - delish
S: kefir and strawberries (and maybe a few almonds)
L: aubergine stew from yesterday with courgette spaghetti and mozarella
S: protein bar
D: smokey chicken stew with courgette spaghetti or quinoa (depending on the carbs situation at the end of the day) - this is another Madeleine Shaw recipe.
I also borrowed Joe Wicks' Lean in 15 book from the library and he has a whole section of low carb dinners - they look delicious!

I have to say I succumbed last night and had a few macadamia nuts while watching Breaking Bad (all DH's fault as he brought himself a whole bowl of snacks!)

I'm feeling super hungry today, not sure why! Had a big breakfast: eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, serrano ham and baked beans. Ugh, what's wrong?
Can I ask what you snack on? I need some help with filling but low carb snacks!
