Is anyone still doing the Paul McKenna I can make you think method?

Or have you done it and did it give you long term results?
I have heard a lot about it a couple of years ago but nothing recently.
I need to lose 3 stones but want to research what is best before I embark on a plan.

Bump - anyone?

I tried it but kind of abandoned it. I don't know why. I found the easy loss one a bit better but didn't really stick it out to the bitter end either.

I should, of course. I had hypnotherapy years ago and haven't eaten a chip or crisp since so I know it can be effective.

ChipInTheSugar · 05/06/2017 08:10

I tried it a while ago - must dig the book out and read it again as I felt even just doing that altered my eating habits. I did the "imagine the food you want to stop eating (toast) ..... imagine a food you don't like (olives) ...... imagine your toast covered in olives Envy" and it worked for me for a long time. I felt physically repulsed even looking at toast.

(Yes, I know toast is a random item but I wanted to cut out snacking on it at work where it's provided.)

I did it several years ago and lost loads pretty fast and with minimal "pain" - I've kept that weight off and not been bigger than a size 12 since then. It certainly worked for me.

A couple of years ago I then lost more weight by doing sw and got down to an 8-10 but over the last 9 months, the weight has crept back on and I'm now a 10-12 which I'm not really happy with. I know it's not big but I feel I worked so hard and looked so much better this time a year ago.

Just this weekend I've downloaded the paul McKenna app and am refreshing myself with the principles. I definitely don't eat slowly enough or listen to when I'm full and just two days in I feel like I am more in tune with when I'm hungry or not. One of my problems is binge emotional eating so I'm hoping this will help combat that.

Hoping that a combo of sw and Paul McKenna will see me back on track!!

So it's worth exploring. Interesting how people aren't continuing with it. Is it because it is a set of principles rather than an eating plan?

Try his later book, the one about quitting sugar. He said he did a lot of research into why people failed on his I can make you thin program, and this new book explains why. I couldn't be bothered with all his techniques, but that way of eating has worked wonders for me this year.

fleur34 · 06/06/2017 06:32

It is a set of principles rather than a diet, yes. I would say that the principles did stay with me (which is why I have never ballooned again) but I do feel like I need a refresher on it 8 or 9 years later to really get back on track. The main thing for me is being conscious of what I eat as I am so prone to shovelling food in fast and not even noticing it. Then not even questioning whether I'm actually hungry or full whenever I eat.

I've not seen the sugar thing but it sounds good!

Eminybob · 06/06/2017 07:01

I've just started it. Definately eating less, I really think about if I'm hungry before I eat anything. Not snacked at all.
The only issue I have is I can't always eat when I start feeling hungry, as when I'm at work I'm client facing (in 3 hour meetings with clients) so can only eat at lunch time then tea time.
I'm definately enjoying food more, and making more healthy choices.
Time will tell if I lose any weight.

upwardsandonwards33 · 06/06/2017 13:57

OK great I will have a look to see which book is best. Hope to combine it with the Blood Sugr diet.

Help..i still fall off the wagon doing this...any pearls of wisdom.out there.
The audio puts me to sleep without fail I have yet to hear it all the way through!!
Binges are less but still do it..grrrr

fleur34 · 10/06/2017 19:19

I don't think it matters if you fall asleep during the long session so don't worry about that.

Are you considering if you're truly hungry whenever you reach for food/start a binge? This is what has made the big difference to me. And if I think I might be hungry I try and drink some water first to see if it is hunger or thirst.

MiaZadora · 10/06/2017 19:35

Thomas Hall 8 hour sessions on you tube might help too. There are some for willpower, quitting sugar, going to the gym!
Thomas Hall is brilliant and has sessions for everything from quitting smoking to fear of flyi g

Just found this thread ... I'm reading "I can make you thin" .... is anyone still around?

The book makes a lot of sense and I'd like to try following it. I've already discovered most of my eating is emotional .. I rarely eat because I'm hungry, but mostly to satisfy a craving for ... I don't know ...

fishonabicycle · 25/06/2017 20:16

There's a book with sort f similar ideas called 'How to have your cake and eat it' by Josie Spinardi which might be with a read.

Yorkshirebornandbred · 26/06/2017 00:15

Nearly finished the book ... I agree with what Paul says. I just don't know what to do instead of eating when I'm trying to fill that emotional emptiness? How is everyone else getting on with it? Anyone else realised that they eat for emotional reasons? How are you coping now?

Oreo364 · 26/06/2017 07:28

I'm still doing it plus the sugar cravings one.
I definitely feel.more positive and actually hungry.ive still had blow outs but not as bad as before.
I think it's little steps and take each day as you find it.

Yorkshirebornandbred · 26/06/2017 13:39

Is the sugar cravings one also Paul McKenna?

Oreo364 · 26/06/2017 14:21

Yes...again I feel a bit more in control the past couple of days...and something feels like it's clicking into my little brain!!

Yorkshirebornandbred · 26/06/2017 15:58

I understand the concept of it and believe it's the answer. I also understand that dieting is making us fat ... I've read lots about that. I'm just struggling with the emotional eating ... or eating because I genuinely want something that's being offered although I'm not hungry at the time .. not sure how that fits in the plan ...

bilbodog · 26/06/2017 16:19

Im just starting this but having trouble listening to the cd - i only have an ipad these days and was hoping to be able to download it online but cant find it there. DH has downloaded it for me but i have to go into an email l to get access first so please let me know if there is an easier way.

Yorkshirebornandbred · 26/06/2017 16:42

I downloaded it to my pic then converted it to an mp3 file and transferred it to my phone. I don't have time to listen to it though as bf always sleeps over.

Yorkshirebornandbred · 26/06/2017 16:42

Should say to my pc !

Oreo364 · 26/06/2017 16:43

I saved the link on my phone as a bookmark so just connect that way to the audio.
I do the whole emotional thing.jist keep listening and think every time.. do I need it..am I hungry.ive fallen into a few fuck it days but just start again

Yorkshirebornandbred · 26/06/2017 16:43

You can rip it into iTunes then sync iTunes with your iPad I think.

Doseydots · 26/06/2017 22:34

I am doing the Paul McKenna sugar one too and in find it's really good, I have struggled with sugar craving for years and since starting this, I can honestly say i have not binged. I had a donut at the weekend and normally that would lead me to self destruct for the rest of the day and sometimes even for the rest of the weekend. I at it, enjoyed it and that was that. It was a revelation.

I am on day 16, I am keeping a journal, I write about 4 or 5 lines a day to to keep me on track and count my days of being in control. I listen to the audio before I go to sleep and I dose off about two minutes into it. I haven't a clue what he's saying. I get a good nights sleep after it too. The hypnotic audio is supposed to wake you up at the end but I just pull my ear plugs out and go back to sleep.

I bought the book from the apple book store so the audios are straight on the iPad. I also do at least one other Audio a day from the book. My aim is to do a full 32 days.

I did the make you thin one a few years ago but I think his sugar one is much better.

It has had a positive effect on other areas of my life too, I am hardly shouting at th kids, in fact I am so calm it's unreal. And at work I have been super organised and thriving. I don't know if this is the hypnotic Audios working or th fact that I am in control of my sugar, I feel in control in other areas too.

I would definitely give it a go. It's best to download the book straight onto your tablet and listen to the audios from there.
