redbracelet · 11/03/2007 20:59

without hunger pangs. Sick of being revolting and want maximum results in the least amount of time or i won't stick to it.

Have already cut down on my portion sizes and started eating more negative calorie foods as well as started exercising more, although i am building that up slowly

redbracelet, how much weight do you need to lose?

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 11/03/2007 22:22

do not do atkins.

it is unhealthy, and it has been linked to heart failure, liver disease, kidney disease and even death.

it works for some but it is very, very unhealthy. the body is not designed to eat like that. if you do atkins you will runin your metabolism for ever.

in fact the atkins corporations is now bankrupt due to the increasing unpopularity of atkins.

redbracelet · 11/03/2007 22:27

would be happy with 1 stone but ideally 1.5 - 2 stones.

Not liking the risks of Atkins, that is very worrying.

Atkins long term has been proved to be unhealthy. Short term if you are otherwise healthy it would be fine.

Atkins corp is mainly bankrupt due to mismanagement. It also gets a lot of bad press - not all of it completely warranted.

You don't have to do it too rleigiousy either - introducing a no carbs after 6pm will have a good effect quite quickly - and reduce bread and pasta intake too. Eat more leafy veg and fruit.

Walking and or running, and swoimming a few time s a week will increase metabolism.

twinklingstar · 11/03/2007 22:34

maybe this is what you are looking for?

ernest · 11/03/2007 22:37

try south beach diet, similar to Atkins inasmuch as low carb, but very healthy, written by cardiologist and promises quick initial results, but leads to a healthy long term eating plan.

also food doctor - i lost lots there and again focus on healthy eating, ian marber or summat

redbracelet · 11/03/2007 22:41

am having a look around via google, wanting a free one if possible, ideally where i can eat as little as poss without being hungry or ill; or one that i can eat hordes of things and lose weight.

Thank you for your help

Do you know anything about GI foods, redbracelet?

Ime there is only so much deprivation a girl can stand and it isn't very healthy (or a good model to the dcs)to be munching on a lettuce leaf when looking longingly at them enjoying their tea!

Do you want to post your usual day to day food-diary on here so we can make suggestions of what can make a difference for you? (in the words of John Inman 'we're free!')

scatterbrain · 11/03/2007 22:51

You can eat loads on slimming world !

Green days are UNLIMITED pasta, rice, potatoes but very small amounts of protein like meat allowed. Unlimited veggoes though. On red days it's the other way round - unlimited meats - but very small amounts of carbs.

You can do any combination you want of red or green days - some people only do red, some onlky do green.

It is quite hard to get your head round at first and you have to cincentrate - but once you have sussed it out it is very easy !!!

Imagine - huge bowl of pasta with tomatoe suace ?? Massive vegie carry with rice ??

Tempted ??

I found that one quite easy and you can do it at home too ! It's based on food combining !

redbracelet · 11/03/2007 22:52

Tbh, i don't know all that much about low GI except that you should eat the foods with the low GI number. I am just looking at a list now.

I am too embarrassed to post a food list here. Somedays i eat a lot and some days i don't. I try to eat as few cals as possible and don't buy crisps or chocolate anymore. I will look at the GI list and see what is what on there. Thank you for the reminder, i had forgotten all about it!

Knowing what you're eating is important but so is why - in my case at least LOL

For instance, I find myself thinking of food, but I'm not hungry - think my teeth just get bored or something () so am trying to drink more water, chew gum (as I am less likely to put anything else in my mouth if the gum is already there) and basically to stick to the sensible healthy eating principles and exercise more. Not too difficult, that bit about exercising more 'cause I wasn't doing any worth mentioning anyway.........

However, enough is enough and I can't go on like this, don't want to go on being too heavy to enjoy life or wear the clothes I want, etc etc.

All the best with your aims, whichever you go for. Remember that even small changes can make a difference, and educating yourself about calorie values and portions in a wise way to go.

It seems from what I've read that the trial dieters on the RC Gi jeans diet got good results quickly, btw. They stick to 1200 cals/day for the first fortnight, then raise the calorie limit to your basal metabolic rate. If you post your age and weight I'll look it up in the book for you.

Eat less calories than you burn in a day.

No special diet or combinations. For long term weight loss and keeping it off you need to look at a healty diet that you can continue. Its more about changing the way you eat long term than 2 week wonder diets, as soon as you go back to eating the way you did surprise, the weight goes back on.

Exercise is vital too, not just the odd hour once in a blue moon at the gym but try introducing daily activity like walking.

hillary · 11/03/2007 23:18

Come and live with me for a week!

redbracelet · 11/03/2007 23:21

i could lose a stone in a week living with you?!

Aloha · 11/03/2007 23:22

How much do you want to lose? Risks of Atkins way overhyped. New study showed it works and isn't harmful. Also nothing messes up your metabolism for ever - really.
I've lost nearly a stone very quickly by not eating - it makes people hysterical but I bought the blooming Cambridge diet from Ebay and have been living off that for a couple of weeks and drinking loads of water (no alcohol, obviously). I feel so, so, so much better. I can get back into clothes I honestly thought I'd never wear again. I gained weight entirely through being pregnant - I just blew up both times and each time was left with an extra stone, so two in total. I now want to get rid of the other one. I don't eat excessively or unhealthily and wasn't gaining in everyday life, just had this post pregnancy weight that wouldn't go away. It's lovely to be losing it at last.

hillary · 11/03/2007 23:24

You most certainly could

either that or just visit the nearest person with the sick bug

Aloha · 11/03/2007 23:24

good, recent, positive study on atkins diet

redbracelet · 11/03/2007 23:26

Aloha, by not eating? Are you not hungry?I know water fills you up but does that not make you feel bloated?
