Has anyone tried the 8 week blood sugar diet

My mum bought me the book, and am just reading it. I have a significant amount to lose, but am shocked at 800kcals a day.

Looking to hear (honest) inspirational stories, please!

The whole idea of the diet is that you have a period of severely restricting your calories, but you still do this whilst eating a low carb diet - and then after the 8 weeks, you revert to a 'normal' diet, but one that's a lower carb diet generally.

KatieKaboom - this diet has been devised by the University of Newcastle. Do you seriously think that they a) haven't tested it or b) don't know what they're talking about?

Oh, and there are some of us on this thread who have actually bothered to read the book (and other literature) unlike you or kings cross

Kaboom I didn't says kings was a dickhead I said she was sounding like a bit of a dick on this thread. I find that generally people who don't really know what they are talking about but yet spout out nonsense advice tend to sound like dicks. It's not personal just an observation.

Be careful you don't add yourself to the number of people on this thread who sound like dicks Grin

I suggest those who are scoffing and declaring the way of eating a "fad" or whatever spend a few minutes researching the author and the diet before coming back and declaring they know everything there is to know about the human body and what will and won't work in regards to health and weight loss. That way they might stop themselves sounding like a dick.

What's the difference between this diet and just eating low carb?

Nishky · 10/04/2017 00:48

Destiny the author wants to sell his books!!

BIWI · 10/04/2017 06:45

Destiny - it's 800 calories a day, not just low carb.

Hi There, just nipping in to encourage everyone to seek real life medical advice before beginning any new diet or exercise plan.

My doctor is very, very happy with this diet - and the results!

TittyGolightly · 10/04/2017 15:30

Mine too. One of my liver enzymes was off the charts and I'd reduced it by 75% after 6 weeks on the BSD.

MyOtherDogIsAPorsche · 10/04/2017 15:38

That is fantastic Titty - I am having my blood tests repeated in 2 weeks time and will be really excited to see the results. I really don't understand the criticism on this thread - it is based on pure science and the results prove it! I do get that some people might not want to follow it but that doesn't make it inherently wrong!

Owllady · 10/04/2017 15:47

My GP has recommended it too. She said to do it for as long as you can and then stick to a Mediterranean diet after to maintain
I'm going to start after Easter. I'm 3 stone over a healthy bmi

CreepyPasta · 10/04/2017 17:05

I'm thinking of starting this diet. I have 4 stone to lose. I also have PCOS and slimming world just doesn't work for me.

I'm worried about loose skin afterwards though, hearing how quick the loss can be.

Has anyone whose done this diet had that problem?

withaspongeandarustyspanner · 10/04/2017 17:33

TittyGolightly I'm about to start this and though I'm not vegetarian, my partner is and I want to avoid cooking two meals - will there be enough choice? Bit worried that there won't be.

TittyGolightly · 10/04/2017 17:40

Loads of choice. Bulk of the diet is veg!

TittyGolightly · 10/04/2017 17:41

I've no issues with my skin.

Batman79 · 14/01/2019 12:35

Hey,
I've heard about this diet and just wondering how I go about starting? Do I need to buy the book at all? Baring in mind that I am uber poor at present. I saw some yummy recipes mentioned in this thread but even they made me wince a little as it all sounds a bit pricey to buy the ingredients (I'm a single parent on a low wage - worry they'd be a lot of wasted food left over as my daughter wouldn't eat it most likely :/ )
