So ive put about 3 stone on in the last couple of years, partly due to pregnancy but mostly due to rubbish eating habits and snacking. Have a holiday booked for July and want to get on it and lose some weight. Problem - I am completely out of control with chocolate. Even trying to not keep it in the house just makes me go out and fetch some I am that addicted! If we have a pack of bars I won't just have one a day I'll have 2 or 3, same with cake.
Does anyone have any tips on how to kick this habit, I don't even tell my partner how much of it I eat, I will eat it when he's not around so he doesn't know. I think that is a serious problem! I have done diets where I've tried to stick to it but the minute I allow myself a treat I binge on it and it's all over and I'm back to square one.
There must be something I can do i have no control or willpower at all!

Susan that is great!!! I would love to be able to walk into a shop and not think about chocolate! Would save me a tremendous amount of money as well!!
I'm the same, never can stop at one piece so I guess makes sense to cut it all out.
What's this Michael Mosley about? Shall have to have a read and Susan shall definitely be looking at this Madeleine shaw app.
Chocolate I shall take a look at that davina book as well.

What App did you use Lazy ?

Chocolatteaddict1 · 26/03/2016 20:20

Bloody hell susan that's great. One question - what was the app? Grin

LazySusan11 · 26/03/2016 21:05

It is the Sue Peckham and James Holmes chocolate addiction hypnosis, sugar stop 21 day challenge. short enough title?! I bought mine from iTunes not the App Store but they have apps too.

Think my greatest achievement other than not inhaling chocolate just before my time of the month was coming home after a few too many and not even thinking about stuffing my face! I am just as amazed as anyone else, all of my friends and family are still Easter Shock that I've gone this long without any sort of sweet stuff and couldn't care less!

LazySusan11 · 26/03/2016 21:13

Looks like this..just incase you can't find it by the epic title!

May I join in please? I'm "normal"weight but an emotional overeater who alternates 3-4 days controlled eating with an uncontrollable sugar fest day. Last example of this was yesterday when eating 1 chocolate bar started a cake and biscuit binge. I need to give up sugar and stick to my controlled 3 sensible meals all week not 5 days out of 7. Good luck and best wishes to you all. Looking forward to our sugar/chocolate free journey.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/03/2016 22:00

Michael mosley is the guy who devised the 5:2 diet but he has another book called the 8 week blood sugar diet, which is supposed to reverse the onset of T2 diabetes/insulin resistance /syndrome x. I had gd in my last 2 pregnancies and ended up on insulin and as a result I gained a lot of weight. I was told by a midwife that I stand a 75% chance of developing T2 diabetes within 20 years as a result of having had gd, and insulin is horrible because it makes every calorie stick. The MM diet is basically a very low calorie, zero sugar, good fats, low carb, Mediterranean style diet for 8 weeks which I'm not convinced about because I can't go 8 minutes without carbs at the moment but in theory it will reverse your insulin issues. I picked it up in tesco on offer but its probably on kindle.

Bicnod · 26/03/2016 22:10

Please can I join in too? I'm an emotional eater and have zero willpower when it comes to chocolate in particular. I feel lethargic and generally crap and think cutting refined sugar would help a lot. Maybe checking in here would actually make me stick to it. I'm actually quite looking forward to Tuesday as I know I'm going to go overboard this weekend Blush

GreenBudgie · 28/03/2016 08:38

Morning All. Hope you all had an enjoyable Easter. So ready for this sugar/chocolate/binge free challenge. Managed to avoid eating half the chocolate orange DH kindly offered me yesterday as I know eating a few segments would have set me off on a scoff. Knowing I'd committed to this thread meant I snacked on olives instead which halted a binge. Yoghurt, banana and seeded bread for breakfast and now coffee prior to dog walkies. What are you all planning food/activity wise today?

Bicnod · 28/03/2016 22:01

Mine starts tomorrow. Cutting out refined sugar only and I'm still going to allow myself wine occasionally (3 young DC...) Not sure how long I'm aiming to do this for...

Nottsangel2015 · 29/03/2016 20:09

How have you all got on today? We have a poorly household so I've ate a load today as am shattered been up with a poorly baby :-( no chocolate though but other rubbish food, crisps, sandwiches, I did have a Diet Coke, is that allowed?

GreenBudgie · 29/03/2016 20:26

Apologies for diving into your thread a day early Angel. Sorry you have poorly people, is it the flu bug? I had a sugar free weekend but back at work anxiety today combined with too little for breakfast had me attacking the doughnuts a colleague brought in. The only thing that truly works for me, from many years of chaotic eating is planning, not carrying money to stop me going to a shop at afternoon tea, and eating enough in the daytime to stop me stuffing sugar later. What are you planning tomorrow?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/03/2016 18:40

Hi everyone, I've had my first sugar free day today and I feel brilliant. I honestly can't remember the last time I got to 6pm and hadn't had something chocolate/biscuit/ stodgy. My shopping order came today and the fridge is packed with vegetables, it looks so healthy. I've planned my meals for the week and calorie counted them all (was very bored visiting my parents!) So I'm feeling very motivated. I've also done 11,500 steps as I walked into Town and back. I'd gained 4lb over the easter choc fest so this can't come soon enough! How is everyone else doing?

GreenBudgie · 30/03/2016 20:17

Hello Bear :-). That is SO positive, such a good start doing that many steps, planning meals and filling the kitchen with healthy food. I've not let a grain of added sugar pass my lips today. Had wholemeal toast and yoghurt for breakfast, salad with egg for lunch with garlic chicken Kiev and veg for dinner. 45 mins walking today, 15 mins body weight exercise done.

Nottsangel2015 · 30/03/2016 20:17

H everyone, we are still all feeling poo and I've had no sweet stuff again but I feel quite weak and headachy and not sure if it's the illness or if it's lack of sugar? Glad you had a fab day bear!!
Budgie I hope you had a better day today!
I'm just doing my food shop, can I ask what you guys are snacking on if anything? I feel I need something to keep me going in the day.
Where do we stand with fruit? Is that a no no?

Nottsangel2015 · 30/03/2016 20:18

Ooh chicken Kiev, you just gave me a meal idea could eat one of those right now lol :-)

GreenBudgie · 30/03/2016 20:27

Hi Angel, I am aiming for no added sugar, so fruit is fine, so long as I don't binge on a bunch of bananas! Having said that I tend not to snack on fruit on its own as the sugar can trigger cravings, so I have fruit with natural yoghurt for protein and a bit of fat to balance the sugar out. I keep nuts and seeds at work for snacking. It helps keep my fat intake up too. If I go too low fat I get ravenous. Kiev was nice. 400 calories and a much better use of calories than 4 chocolate biscuits with the same calories. Good luck to everyone, I'd love to get to the end of April without binging.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/03/2016 21:13

I've done a tesco order and my snacks are carrot batons and individual snack pots of hummus, some really nice finest cherry tomatoes (all different colours), and some skyr natural yoghurt. I have only bought 1 small punnet of raspberries and strawberries as for me, fruit is a big issue because it makes me want more sugary stuff. I've also bought a bag of finest roasted mixed nuts, they are beautiful but need to be weighed out because a generous handful is 200cals and I could eat a lot of those handfuls in a day!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/03/2016 21:16

Other suggestions could be seafood sticks/crab sticks, ready cooked chicken or wafer thin ham, hard boiled eggs, crustless quiche etc. (Thinking of things from my slimming world menus!)

GreenBudgie · 30/03/2016 22:07

Bear, is Skye yoghurt nice? Never tried it I usually have Greek yoghurt.

Nottsangel2015 · 30/03/2016 22:38

Thank you for the suggestions. I shall bare that in mind regarding fruit triggering sugary needs. I'm not a huge fan of nuts or seeds If I'm honest unless it involves dry roasted peanuts or vanilla pumpkin seeds which I'm pretty sure defeat the object lol
I shall be ordering seafood sticks as love them anyway in salad but I can see they would make a great snack.
When I've done diets in the past I've always been very low on my fat intake so maybe that is something I could look at improving as maybe it would help me feel full etc... I think it's because we presume fat is bad but actually there are good fats. I shall look into an alternative to nuts!

I want to join Smile

My midwife gave me into trouble for my sugar consumption! I'm also pretty good with my main meals but I do like a bar of chocolate or some sort of sweet most days.

I started reducing my sugar this week - by sugar I mean processed sugar. I will still eat natural sugar etc.

My colleague has brought in cocoa and date balls - YUM. I can live on them for the time being!

Nottsangel2015 · 31/03/2016 07:59

Welcome! You sound like you've made a good start! What are cocoa and date balls?im curious

greenbudgie skyr yoghurt is delicious, if you like natural yoghurt anyway (my husband can't stand it). Its very thick and not sweet at all as I think the straining they do removes some of the natural lactose sugar. (In dairy produce the first 4.7g of sugar per 100g is lactose). I b!ast some frozen raspberries in the microwave and stir them in with a sprinkle of stevia. Its probably my favourite food at the moment. The fruit flavoured ones are also nice but I didn't like the honey one.
Today I'm getting out into the jungle garden armed with a roll of green bags and my secateurs. Purely because of this thread I've done my makeup but I'm still wearing my scruffiest clothes. My neighbours will probably think I'm drunk....

SummerDreams13 · 31/03/2016 09:12

Oooh can I join?! Could have written the op, right down to 3st and pregnancy. Avoided gd, though don't know how, but really want to try for a baby next year and need to lose weight. Also just want to feel more confident in myself again; found myself deleting photos that had me in from the Easter egg hunt, which seems so unfair on dc, as they might want photos of me and them when they're older! Have 2 x Kallo dark choc rice cakes for snacks today and that's IT as far as chocolate goes...fingers crossed!
