I am plannng on doing a one week detox starting tomorrow and then following this with a few weeks at Slimming World to lose the 7lbs that have come on since I reached target (I knew they would I had to stop running and ate like a pig!!)

However I start tomorrow with one week of the Cabbage Soup Diet - don't knock it til you've tried it! But this thread is just for one week, for those detoxers who are doing any weird and wonderful (maple syrup and cayenne pepper Betty ) diets.

cabbage soup diet This should help with recipe/diet etc. Do look at some of the additional recies from teh message boards as they help make to soup better.

I am planning 2 or 3 days of a 'mediterainian' soup full of garlic, herbs and chopped corriander. Tomorrow I have bags of satsumas, an exotic fruit salad (melon/pineapple/mango) and a bag of apples. Day 2 has loads of veggi sticks inc baby sweetcorn/carrots, cucumber, cherry tomotoes. A big salad with balsamic vinegar/salt/pepper for lunch and jkt potato and steamed veggies for supper. Day 3 will be a combination of the frui salad, salad for lunch, steamed veggies and fruit for supper - PLUS loads of soup all day.

Day 4 always is hard - skimmed milk and bananas (I always go for organic milk as it tastes slightly better, others use a pot or two of natural yoghurt insteasd - I might do this with sliced bananas.

Day 5 being veggie I do eggs, or quorn, or prawns (not strictly veggie) with loads of tomotoes (you can do a wicked spicey prawns with garlic, fresh tomtoes, curry powder and chopped corriander)

Day 6 as day 5 but with more veggies

Day 7 - BROWN RICE and veggies casserole

That little lot will get rid of the Christmas bloat, and with running starting the 2nd week Jan, the next few lbs will go quick (I have a sking holiday on 14th Jan) so I want to lose the 7lbs if poss by then, if not at least 5 of them!!)

Hi!
Would like to join you in losing half a stone... but not on the cabbage soup diet! I tried it several years ago and only managed two days.

However today I have made up a massive veggie soup which is delicious.

Have re-joined gym so that should help.

But am starting tomorrow after my news years party!!!

crunchie · 31/12/2006 15:06

No worries, any diets are welcome, but it is just a kick start to the year

I will join you tomorrow!Did a low carb diet for several weeks before december and then undid all the good work I now look and feel terrible!

oxocube · 31/12/2006 16:05

Crunchie, I'll join you on this one! Its not so much the weight loss as giving up crap/carbs for a week. I do this every couple of months and always feel better and more energised for it. So I take it we are staring tomorrow? Exercise is also important IMO, even if its just 30 mins walking

crunchie · 31/12/2006 16:06

OK OXO what will you be doing???

QuootiepieTheNewYearsAss · 31/12/2006 16:07

Id love to join you, but, do you think this is OK while Breastfeeding? He's 9 months. Ive never ever detozed - I think I need to!

QuootiepieTheNewYearsAss · 31/12/2006 16:08

detoxed, not detozed.

oxocube · 31/12/2006 16:13

Crunchie, I think for my New Year One Week Detox, i'm going to cut out all processed foods and basically try to eat as much raw stuff/ fruit as possible as well as drinking loads of water.. I know from experience that I'll still have a couple of glasses of wine a night so maybe the water will dilute the alcohol!! Will avoid all red meat and protein will come from fish and a little chicken (all low cal/low fat).

Fingers crossed xx

crunchie · 31/12/2006 16:22

OK quootie, detox can be a harsh or as mild as you like.

Only real 'rules' in my book are

  1. no alcohol
  2. drink loads of water
  3. no refined foods, eg processed

However you could asfely add in
4) no caffine
5) no sugar - this includes in drinks, to cook with etc
6) no 'white' carbs
7) no refined fats (eg marg/butter) olive oil is OK
8) no salt, use herbs, spices for flavourings
9) no fried food, grill/steam/poach/roast (No fat added)

In your position I would do a semi-detox.

  1. oat based porridge with dried fruit and possibly honey if you must for breakfast
  2. lunch and dinners of fruit/veg/protien/carbs - like chicken/fish and brown rice or jkt potato (no butter)
  3. snacks of home made hummous, veg sticks, oat cakes etc

Don't let yourself get hungry, but do meal plan, it makes it easier. you can then do a shopping list. Plan to have 3 meals and 2 snacks, plus 8 glasses of water.

I would do breakfast the same each day - possrige made with water or milk with raisins or honey or sliced banana.
Snack of dreid nuts/fruit/seeds or fruit
lunch of grilled chicken breast with huge salad, snack of oastcakes and hummous or veggie sticks, supper of brown rice with veggie casserole. etc etc

Have you read the Carole Vorderman detox book, Crunchie? My mum bought it (goodness knows why as her favourite snacks are scotch eggs and pork pies!!) Its sooo extreme - I took one look and ran! She basically lives off (during her detox) salad which is only leaves, not with stuff added, nuts, seeds and raw veg.

I know the wine is pants but hey ho! Breakfast will be fruit, lunch salad and fruit and dinner, something like steamed fish, chicken or prawns with green veg (no potatoes), lots of herbs and garlic, or salad.

I know its not the perfect detox, but at least its one I know I can stick to, at least for a week

QuootiepieTheNewYearsAss · 31/12/2006 16:35

Blimey! Well, this only lasts a week? I think even I cn stick at that! I have never had porridge... I have some in the house for DS though, so, Ill give it a go Ill just go write all this down. Thatnks for doing that xXx

ImMcDreamyingofawhitexmas · 31/12/2006 16:47

Count me in - I have recently bought a detox book and so will stick to that if tht's ok.

DimpledThighs · 31/12/2006 17:04

quotie I don't think it is a good idea to detox when you are breastfeeding - you need all those essential fats and you really neeed the protein. By all means eat better, cut out alcoholetc. but a big detox is not good at this stage - esp. as you are supposed to start expelling toxins and they might end up in the breast milk.

crunchie · 31/12/2006 17:04

oxo those detox books are totally bonkers IMHO

I did do another one which I liked.

Day 1) 3 glasses freshly squeezed juice (fruit/veg) and water
day 2) add in fresh fruit
day 3) add in fresh (uncooked) veg
Day 4) add in cooked veg
Day 5) add in pulses
Day 6) add in brown rice (different meal to pulses)
Day 7) add in sheeps milk yoghurt

At least there is something new to look forward to each day - but it is V V tough

Cabbage soup is similar in some ways, but you can have as much soup as you like, which fills you up

I'm doing the first week of Atkins starting tomorrow so that will be pretty restrictive for a week - does that count?

oxocube · 31/12/2006 17:12

Crunchie, at least I like soup .

crunchie · 31/12/2006 17:50

course it does I couldn't do atkins, as I am veggie. This is not my body is a temple detox, just one week of support

Happy New Year Crunchie! I am sitting with my cup of hot water and lemon, craving tea and toast but am determined!! Its only a week. And am going to try really hard to lay of the wine. Let us know how you get on, won't you

Celery · 01/01/2007 09:26

The Carol Vorderman detox isn't that restrictive - I'm starting it in a couple of days. Fruit smoothies, muesli ( non wheat )or porridge with honey and dried fruit for breakfast, soups, salads ( any salad you want, not just green leaves, and oil based dressings are allowed), veg crudities with different dips, rye bread, tahini, olives, nuts and seeds - for lunch and to snack on. Fruit obviously. Brown rice and non wheat pasta with roasted veg, any veg cooked any way you like, curries, lentils and beans ( which aren't too bad if you smother them in something like a tomato sauce or a ratatouille. It all sounds pretty good and doable for me. You can eat as much as you like too.

oxocube · 01/01/2007 10:26

Celery, have just got out my Carol (without the 'e'!) Vorderman book and you are right - I must have been in a bad mood when I last read it . I guess I concentrated on the things you can't have rather than those you can! But seriously, although you are allowed certain cereals, you can only have them with rice, almond or sesame milk. Am I the only one who never heard of these before and I certainly wouldn't know where to buy them. Likewise non-wheat pasta. I suppose health food shops would stock them. What do they taste like?

crunchie · 01/01/2007 11:46

well my cabbage soup is made, and it smells really nice (If anyone wnats tips on adjustingteh recipe let me know) I have a cup of detox tea (tescos not bad really and will start on my first satsume in a minute.

However what I thought was 7lbs to lose has magically grwon to 10lbs in the last 3 days howver that is probably due to me emptying teh fridge into my mounth before starting this diet

So I will keep you all updated or bored, as it will keep me going!!

Tomorrow I go back to work, so I will take a HUGE thermos of soup and rehat it there

idontlikecrusts · 01/01/2007 20:10

Bother!

I was feeling ill with cold last night so didn't drink all my alcohol, haven't eaten all the chocolate and still have a packet of chocolate brekfast cereal in the cupboard tempting me.

Have so far had eggs and bacon today on Day 1 of Atkins and feel the need for carbs and sugar which is soooo in the fridge/cupboard and available.
