Jenna, sorry to hear you didn't like the diet (well, I don't think anyone likes it).

In my experience, the 1st 2-3 days were the worst as it felt so "odd". However, hand on heart, I can honestly say that from day 3-4 onwards, that it became a lot easier to bear .... and that includes cooking for everyone else because DP is incapable. Though admittedly I was bored, I did NOT feel hungry.

I do sympathise with how you feel ...... post-Christmas, I really struggled going back onto Sole Source for the 1st couple of days & couldn't stop thinking about food. However, today, day 3, I feel a lot better and a lot more optimistic, whereas yesterday all I could think was "this is so hard".

Why don't you consider doing CD for just a week (by which stage you should have gone into ketosis and got used to having low calorie meals) ? You will almost certainly register an impressive loss in that 1st week which might well be all the motivation you need to continue anyway, but if you still don't like it, of course you could give up then.

Whatever you decide though, good luck with it. Weight loss isn't easy however we do it.

moonshine · 03/01/2007 15:18

Hello all. Day 2 for me and still feeling a bit hungry but not as bad as yesterday evening. But felt better this morning (although I did have a headache). I have always used a hand blender - couldn't have coped without one. It's definitely not a gourmet experience, but then it's not meant to be! I am still cooking for the rest of the family and feel this is all part of my 'training' ie I can handle food without having to always be stuffing some of it down my face.

I'm sorry Jenna that you have felt unable to continue. I agree that if you can get past the firt few days, then it will be 100% better, but, tbh, it doesn't sound like you are mentally totally committed to it, in which case you probably will struggle. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, and don't be put off trying again if you feel you can handle it.

LaughinLil - I remember you from the last threads! Well done on maintaining - you have done brilliantly and to only put on 15lbs in, let's face, the most dangerous time of the year is really good. And a great antidote to ditzy's story! I'm sorry ditzy you did put it all back on (did you really put on over 4 stone in one month?). Yes the maintaining is far harder than the losing (I did put on but am still more than 4 stones' lighter than my heaviest). But if you read any weight-loss thread you will see that loads of people put the weight back on again if you become complacent - it's not just a Cambridge Diet thing. Once we get to goal (which we will of course) we will definitely have to set up a maintenance thread.

Off to slurp yet more water (definitely a habit worth keeping up as it helps with the weight loss).

gingernutlover · 03/01/2007 21:05

zippity doodah zippity day

I went to see my CDC today

She gave me plenty of choc mint, plenty of veg soup

And tomorrow morning is the beginning of the brand new yummy mummy gingernut yay!

fussymummy · 04/01/2007 00:46

Hi everyone, went to see my doctor today as i have medical problems, and she has to sign a medical form from CD to say it's ok to start the diet.

She signed it no problem.

So it's full steam ahead for friday when i meet the counsellor for the first time!!!!

mrspoppins · 04/01/2007 09:45

MESSAGE TO EVERYONE

Hi! so excited to see so many here! Was thinking that we should start a new thread on the 1st of each month, but judging the length of this already, shall we do it weekly?

What do you all think and what would you prefer?

My thought was that we could restart each Friday at midnight. I'm fairly new here so would there be an easy way to do this and be refound whatever we decide?

xxxKaren

struggling at the moment, but holding in there!!

meb2006 · 04/01/2007 09:58

I am a newbie but in case my thoughts count I think a weekly one might be better as there seem to be a lot of postss on this thread. At some point is there a weigh in or a summary of who is who on the thread as there seem to be lots on here - I find it v difficult to remember who everyone is. Just an idea.

I am waiting to see counsellor but no food yesterday as using the remnants of the CD I had from when I tried to do this last summner after having my baby and failed dismally. Also got wedding on saturday ( I am so embarassed I had to buy this purple tent thing to wear - I look like such a heffer) so am going to be eating a meal then - so I am not officially starting until Sunday (subject to counsellor) but trying to do CD until sat - yesterday is the first day I have managed to diet in about 6 months!!!

It does peeve me that husband and mother think this is a waste of time as they say I can't keep it off when dieting this way - last time I did this I did make big changes and did keep weight off for over 2 years it was just job change (which stopped me going to gym - which I found a great help) and then my lovely baby arriving that assisted in me eating for England. I just wish people were positive - you would have thought that me not eating loads in any form would be worth encouraging not - "I don't agree with it"

ahhhhh!

juuule · 04/01/2007 10:04

I think it might be better to have a weekly thread. I'm new too. In fact, I won't be starting the CD until Sunday. Seeing the counsellor on Saturday.

fussymummy · 04/01/2007 10:20

I think weekly thread would be better.
Easier to keep up with!!!
I start tomorrow.
mrspoppins keep at it, it's you thats got us all together on here.
We can support you as well.

My 8 year old son told me the other day, that if you have a bad day with a new year resolution, don't leave it until next new year to start again!!!!!
Just re-start the next day!

My 5 year old said she can't wait to put her arms right the way round me!!!!!

And my 3 year old, who informed me that i have a fat tummy, said that mummys tummy will disappear out the window!!!!

Wise words from 3 special children.

moonshine · 04/01/2007 11:42

I would prefer a weekly thread, and we could post our weekly losses/trials and tribulations? Seems to be a few who are (re)starting soon - good luck to you. Just try to remember that the first few days can be a bit hellish but they shall pass quickly and then hopefully you will stop feeling hungry - well physically, anyway (the mental stuff we all have to work at!)

Day 3 today for me - am still having waves of hunger and thought (briefly) of popping of cube of cheese in my mouth. But I am going for the hardcore line - it makes it so much easier and quicker!

Here's some inspiration. Warning - tis a Sun link!!

inspiration

meb2006 · 04/01/2007 13:50

ok - it is inspiring- the fact that I am notthat BIG to begin with and the fact that someone that large had done it - she is now slimmer then. I just had to buy some new trousers and bras today - it was the first time I have been in a white light cubicle since I had my baby - oh my God. I have gone up 6 inches and 4 cup sizes in a bra!!!! - I felt so sorry for the woman fitting it - that is 6 inches of flab on my back! At lesast she laughed with me about this.

I just have to do this diet now - I never realised I looked so bad!

gingernutlover · 04/01/2007 19:00

okay, first day. I have felt okay, quite hungry but no headache ... YET! Dh has gone to bed with massive headache though, poor him.

however, I have been quite erm "windy" today! and also had very runny poo - sorry for tmi but does anyone who has done it before know if this is normal - please dont say it means its not working or somthing!

meb2006 · 04/01/2007 20:34

TMI!!!!!!! Ha, Ha. Yes this is a normal reaction in some people - the wind is probably because you are empty - I know my tummy usually starts sounding like a cistern after a few days.

I have found a counsellor - bad news is she can't see me til Tuesday and I have just done day 2 on the remnants of packets that I had but I don't have enough to see me past Sunday!!!! Oh dear -think I'll have to buy a couple of slimfast to tide me over rather then to start eating (although I am eating at a wedding on Saturday but I wanted to go straight back on the packs). Anyone got any other ideas what I could do???

But let's look at the positive - I have managed day 2 - I'd better go to bed soon to make sure I complete it!

gingernutlover · 04/01/2007 20:53

well done onday 2, you are 1 ahead of me

you can buy sachets off ebay but expensive and probably take too long to come

or have heard of "lipotrim" that you can buy from chemists. same type of thing I think, tbh though sure slimfasts would work the same, just not vits and mins in them so not good long term

mrspoppins · 05/01/2007 00:21

Hi! Weekly thread it is then eh?

Loved the link 'Inspiration'...might stick that on the beginning of every week or possibly find an inspirational something to go there...will work on that.

Lipotrim....exactly the same process, similar price but OMG tastes SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
disgusting...

Mind you, I quite like the CD...I must be odd

Struggling with comittments for meals and friends and changing jobs in a week but back in earnest on Saturday with my counsellor visiting me the following Saturday. Decided to be frank with everyone from now on and say that I am on this diet and would love to come over for a meal but will happily bring my own soup...after all, it is me they want to see not their food they want me to eat!

Toying with the idea of going down to the local gym and asking them what they think they could do for me if I put in the hours and hard work. I'm going to go to my GP tomorrow afternoon for a BP check and a cholesterol check. I want to know where my starting point is and how much damage I have already done. Also, I am going to pluck up the courage and ask if there is any financial support I am entitled to re gym membership as it would be a huge struggle on top of the price each week of the diet.

My motto is always if you don't ask, you don't get!!!

I'll be 40 in Jan next year. All of you slim down with me and come and join me in celebrating a new life!!

xxKaren

moonshine · 05/01/2007 11:08

Meb - you could do something similar to the 790 plan on CD (some chicken/fish and salad)
or a low-cal version of Atkins to try and get you in ketosis, although obviously you may not be getting your full 100% vits but it is only a very short-term solution.

MrsPoppins - good on you if youfeel you can be honest with people - but beware as there is always someone who does not understand and will try and sabotage - just ignore them. I hardly told anyone first time round and just made different excuses or told some white lies. I really think it's best if you do not keep jumping off the CD wagon as it just gets more and more difficult to stick to it and drags it out. You are right - friends want to speak to you not see you eat. The food will be there tomorrow/next week/next year. How much weight have you lost since you started?

Day 4 for me today. Yesterday I was the bitch from hell and my period came a week early without its usual warnings. I had all the negative feelings about the diet and myself it is possible to have. But today the hunger has just about gone, and am feeling positive again. And my jeans are a tad loser.
Hooray!

meb2006 · 05/01/2007 13:28

i have bought 3 slimfast shakes to tide me over - i could n't find the lipotrim. I have worked out i have just enough of packs until tuesday I have vegetabe soup for each meal until then but i really don't think i can stomach it - one is ok for dinner but not 3 a day. may do the 790 - but i think i will then feel worse not being able to eat anything - so i thik another liquid drink may be best - slimfast has just over 200 cals but i think lots more carbohydrate so it is a last resort.

Moonshine and others what did you think of my idea of a summary of whose who - i thought we could do a list of who everyone is, age (this may be a bit controversial), no of kids?, how long we have been doing cd for, maybe start weights and where we are now (voluntary - if people want to) just so posters can tell if someone has been doing cd for ages or just a newbie like me - just an idea though if posters think it is useful - if not bin!

fussymummy · 05/01/2007 13:49

hi everyone,
Have just beeen to see my counsellor for the first time today.

Got my boxes of luxury items!!!!!! (NOT)

I've had first shake drink and it wasn't too bad.

Probably in 6 months i'll be sick of them!!!

I also got some of the mousse crystals to mix with the shakes and get a mousse instead.

Also got some of the water flavourings.

I remember reading somewhere that someone said they found the tomato soup really powdery.

I was told that if you mix it with a small amount of cold water first, into a paste and then add the hot water.

catsmother · 05/01/2007 16:45

I was advised to mix the tomato soup into a paste first as well ....... but if that's supposed to help with its powderiness, I dread to think what it would be like if you didn't do that !

I find the lack of savoury stuff on this diet the hardest thing to bear. The soups really don't hit the spot at all. Strangely, although the bars etc can hardly be said to be tempting, I don't find myself craving chocolate or sweets very much at all.

There are various recipes you can try with the shakes and soups. I've been told perseverence is the key, but the so-called "muffin" I made was horrid ..... and then of course you have to eat the damn thing anyway. Apparently you can also make "crisps" but I am scared to try in case they're horrid too and I have to force them down.

If anyone has any recipes which actually taste halfway acceptable, I'd really like to see them. In the meantime, I prefer to drink the shakes more or less down in one.

moonshine · 05/01/2007 16:49

Sorry Meb - missed that bit (CD jellyhead ). I would love a summary, if people don't mind, as I get very confused. Although I have done a vlcd before I am pretty new to this thread (and am a person of diminishing brain cells anyway!). People don't have to divulge their weight, if they don't want to, just maybe how much they'd like to lose or how much they have lost. I always think if you do say your weight, heights are useful too.

Fussymummy - don't take anyone's word on what is or is not a good flavour, it really is so individual. Everyone in my LL group raved about the nut bars but when I tried one I was nearly sick and could not finish it. You will find that your tastes will probably change over time. I started off loving some flavours and then hating them with a passion (and vice versa). Good luck and don't forget - the hunger will pass, just keep drinking loads of water.

moonshine · 05/01/2007 16:52

Omg I loved the crisps made with Thai Chilli soup (don't think CD make that flavour)and it almost felt like eating. To make the weekend 'special' I would save 2 packs until the evening and have crisps, followed by a muffin. Did you put a sweetner in it?

I will try to find a link for 'recipes' but ds is calling me now...

juuule · 05/01/2007 16:55

Quick question while I remember. With all the water that you have to drink - is sparkling(carbonated) water allowed?

moonshine · 05/01/2007 17:11

This might be useful

recipes

Yes you can drink (plain) carbonated water - I am atm!

fussymummy · 06/01/2007 00:00

Has anyone tried the tetra briks?

I had a banana one and it was awful!!

Really horrible taste in my mouth as well!!!

It's now the end of day one and i did it!!!!

Will take one day at a time i think!!

I cannot believe that i've actually drunk 4 litres of water today.

Spent loads of time going to the loo as well!!!!

mrspoppins · 06/01/2007 00:06

Think thai chilli IS cambridge...sure I've seen it somewhere. Ask your counsellor and then we can all have crisps!!!!

Good morning all.
Well, I'm off to see my CDC at 11am this morning Undecided as to whether I start the diet today or tomorrow? Should I have some breakfast or just have water and wait until I've picked up my stuff later? Hmmmm, decisions, decisions?
