I suppose I should have weighed myself today but I didn't! Too scared! Been really good today though - well and truly back on the wagon!

How's everyone else?

shift not shirt

joelallie · 20/11/2006 12:47

While I agree with crotchety that ideally you need a good long run at it to start with, I think you should start now. It's nearly 4 weeks until 15th December. If you really go for it now - induction levels until them - and then restrict your crimes on the 15th you should be OK. Allow yourself 1 roast potato and 1 small helping of pud for example, drink plenty of water and then clamber back on the wagon instantly. Ditto christmas. You want to get started now so I would for for it whilst the impetus is there. By Christmas you may find that your cravings and appetite will have shrunk so that it's easier to resist. And you'll feel slimmer and happier.

BTW your goal is eminently acheivable

Crotchety · 20/11/2006 13:15

Yes - was thinking about this as I did the lunchtime school run (roll on full days at school) and changed my mind actually. I'm with Joelallie. Start now! You'll lost weight nice and quickly and feel all encouraged. The only thing to realise is that once you get into fat-burning mode and not dependent on starch and sugar for your energy you feel virtuously non-hungry, but lapses into sugar-land stop all that and you start getting huge cravings again. So bear that in mind as Christmas gets going, and don't get depressed! And definitely get a book (Atkins or Clarke Plan) pronto to understand the science as that really helps with persevering. I think just dropping the odd thing like crisps and that won't help you because you'll just feel fed up and hungry - there are quite a lot of other quite surprising things that have to go as well at first like most fruit, and things like carrots, and low fat stuff, and so on. Get a book go on go on go on.

brimfull · 20/11/2006 13:24

Hi stoppinattwo, welcome. As mentioned I'm on the clarke plan and really am finding it easy.Saying that I don't actually count my carbs but rather only eat stuff which has no carbs or only a trace.Yes you should start now, once you've done it for about 3-4 days your appetite will diminish and it's easier.
I think it'll be ok to enjoy a xmas party without completely gorging on carbs.Just leave out the potatoes/crisps and sweet things. You can still enjoy alcohol.DRy wine and gin are my saviours!!

I've lost about 20lbs now and it feels great to beable to shop for clothes,dh finding it a shock!

joelallie · 20/11/2006 13:24

Yep. It's not just not eating stuff that matter, it's the eating of the right things too. Being in ketosis helps to stem hunger but so does eating more protein and fat - I know that goes against all dietary advice....

When it comes to breaking the rules for special occasions, plan what you are going to eat and stick to it. I will allow myself 3 days over christmas - I will have a croissant for breakfast (1!!!), 2 small roast potatoes, a small helping of stuffing with my lunch, small helping of christmas pud, perhaps some dark chocolate afterwards. Christmas Eve and Boxing Day I might have some christmas cake and some some lc 'mince pies'. All those will dump me right out of ketosis but restricting it will stop me going crazy and eating everything in sight! And a 3-day limit will mean I don't use it as an excuse to go off the rails permanently. It is possible to go off plan if you do it very carefully.

20 lb ggirl! Excellent - how long has that taken?

Strawb - could you suggest getting a curry on Friday instead and you have yours with salad or spinach or something instead of the rice and naan?

Well if they all know about the diet then she's unlikely to get offended hopefully. Yes- take the crudite type stuff and some cheese I say! AND NO CAKE.

So everyone - how much do you reckon you've lost so far then since starting this? (Not counting today's particular fluctuations if poss? ) I think over the last few months it's maybe been about 9 or 10lb . Lots of remarks about looking slimmer and clothes definitely a LOT looser. It's gone very slow now but I'd like to shift another 10 lbs. Ideally. Half a stome would do though.

Crotchety · 21/11/2006 21:06

And half a stoNe would be even better...

oxocube · 22/11/2006 11:27

Well done to all who have lost weight. I lost the plot recently so didn't dare post on this thread - have lived on bread, pizza, more bread, pastry etc for last 2 weeks but am back on track now and hoping to last until Christmas . Just made a lovely chicken bacon and avocado salad for lunch later and am planning nice spicy chicken thing for dinner. Am also trying to do no wine but think I may slip up there

well have just blown the wine thing. But have been v good re food. chicken, bacon, salad, water, shit loads of wine and more water. Not a great 'first day back' to be honest

noddyholder · 23/11/2006 13:29

I am 2 weeks in and have lost 5lbs.Haven't really cheated apart from a bit of a small choc cake I baked yeaterday and it tasted awful There is a tin of them in the kitchen and I haven't touched them. What is the lowest carb alcohol wise as I haev my oldest friend coming with her kids for teh weekend and we usually like to have a few drinks. Also after the 2 week induction can I have any fruit?Desperate for a banana!I only had a little freebie induction book and don't have any more recipes!

joelallie · 23/11/2006 14:26

Dry white wine - champagne is good . Dry red wine isn't so bad. Or spirits with or without a low-cal mixer. Avoid fruit juice obviously and beer isn't good.

Not the I'm interested in the subject at all....

joelallie · 23/11/2006 14:27

Sorry - forgot the fruit thing in my hurry to tell you what to drink ...

berry fruit - not easy this time of year - are OK in moderation. Rhubarb. Satsumas aren't too bad. But whatever you have - stick to small amounts. All fruit is very high in sugar.

Crotchety · 23/11/2006 16:18

Here she goes again but on the fruit front - frozen blueberries and greek yoghurt! Hooray. My breakfast. Also trying frozen cranberries - quite sharp - need a bit of splenda...

oxocube · 23/11/2006 17:38

Great, DH off for Chinese take-away. Am having NO rice, NO noodles, no wontons. Instead am having this spicy beef thing wrapped in lettuce with chili and cucumber. Is better than the steamed fish I had planned
