I suppose I should have weighed myself today but I didn't! Too scared! Been really good today though - well and truly back on the wagon!

How's everyone else?

Hi Girls - sorry not been around.

On the subject of pooh. I was really struggling during induction but since going low GL I can't stop going!

Been a bad week on the biscuit front though. McVities moments made an appearance in work and it took me moments to shovel several in my mouth after a low GL lunch. Braved the scales yesterday and I've stayed the same, which to be honest, was a relief.

No froggy this week??

Ggirl - it isn't worth testing your cholesterol again for at least three months into any dietary change. I'd leave it six. How high was it?

I have been on the atkins 14 day induction started monday but am in desperate need of snacky ideas. The book doesn't suggest much it is a little free book which just covers the 2 weeks.I have had egg and bacon for breakfast and sugar free jelly and cream for lunch !Can you help me find some snacks Desperate for crisps!

joelallie · 17/11/2006 13:32

Cheese, hard-boiled eggs, tuna mayo, egg mayo, chicken legs, pork scratchings.

noddyholder · 17/11/2006 13:40

I am going to go and get chicken legs!I need something instant as there are chocolate flapjacks in my cupboard calling me!

Crotchety · 17/11/2006 14:05

Hello Noddy. Always liked your hats. I wonder if you should eat a bit more for lunch - bit more protein maybe - might be why you are feeling so desperate for a snack? Anyway celery and full fat cream cheese is one of my usuals, plus everything that Joelallie said. Oh and drink buckets of water as well (says she with a mug of coffee next to the laptop...)

Yes - where's the Frog hopped off to?

joelallie · 17/11/2006 14:13

Yep. Agree with Crotchety that you need more fat and protein to stop the hunger pangs until ketosis starts. Try using your tablespoons of double cream whipped in some coffee - it stops you feeling so deprived

noddyholder · 17/11/2006 16:12

Just went to boots and bought some lo carb sweets disgusting they are all in teh bin!Cream cheese it is then I think almonds are ok too so I ahve some of those but this diet is getting expensive now!

Too bloody many! Just like the amount of arbs in a dominos pizza - major indiscretion!

Decided to take drastic measures, and as my other half is now away for a week I'm back on induction.

Noddy - sometimes I've been known to snack on a mattesons smoked pork sausage - just half will take away your cravings for hours!

I've been told that eating a piece of cheddar cheese with some diet coke is quite good. I prefer it with a cup of coffee....something about the mixture of flavours that is very satisfying

emotionalwreck · 18/11/2006 21:45

Yeah - grated cheese with cucumber wrapped in lettuce is delish!

You may as well have jumped in a chocolate fountain and been done with it!

Apart from your prized drink being ruined, sounds like a top night to me. Whens weigh day though Strawb? I'm bailing out of mine tomorrow (again) as it was our local towns xmas light swithc on tonight, and I may haver visited the Van that says "10 dougnuts for £1". Who can resist that? I spent £5.

Just kidding!

could I join in please, was lookin for a carb type diet and this may be the thread for me.............would that be ok? how long have you lot been dieting then.

I think i understand the theory but maybe need some guidelines. could anyone direct me to some good advice.

joelallie · 20/11/2006 10:56

I love you strawb !! You make me feel so much less guilty about my cheese on toast and 1 (v small) roast potato. Was it good meet-up. I'm off to a mini mn meet-up in a few weeks. Last count there was going to be just the 4 of us....

stopinattwo - basics are to cut out all sugar and starchy foods. You start off on just fresh meat, fish, eggs, green veg and 4oz cheese a day. At least 3 litres of water. Cut back on coffee (if you can). No milk (but most of us do use a little ). That is Atkins. There are other variations - I think ggirl is doing the Clarke plan. There is an Atkins website which might help if you decide to go with that, but the Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book would really be helpful. Nice to have you on board

Crotchety · 20/11/2006 11:51

I find it hilarious that Strawb says she is "introducing " carbs . Strawb - how have you been getting your metabolism to ignore the lemon drizzle etc etc??? Mine isn't falling for it!

Stoppinattwo - hello! I did Atkins successfully a few years back and then found I needed to shift about a stone and a half that had crept back on recently so I've been re-doing it for about 2 months now. Much slower this time around though. . But I would definitely recommend getting either the Atkins or Clarke books as you really need to know the full picture and not try to do it with odd bits of informantion. The Atkins book is VERY american in tone and full of odd recipes, so you have to persevere to find the useful info. I think Clarke is an easier read as it's geared towards Brits.

stoppinattwo · 20/11/2006 12:15

Hi thanks for the welcome, my aim is to drop about 2 1/2-3 stone by next summer, not unreasonable I dont think, How do you deal with minor indescretions such as, I have a xmas doo coming up on the 15th Dec and would like to enjoy my meal without worrying too much, are you allowed to fall of the wagon for a meal such as this??

Crotchety · 20/11/2006 12:26

Well a lot of falling off the wagon does on go here...However 15th Dec doesn't give you much time to get into the fat-burning habit. What do we think everyone? Start after Christmas? Or do induction right away and then fall off the wagon fairly soon afterwards, and then presumably again at Christmas (which is what we're all planning...) I reckon if you started after Christmas you'd probably shift most of that weight by the summer. Technically low carb is not a diet that is supposed to tolerate sugary lapses, but some of us...enough said... Strawb already thinks I'm bitter...and she's right...

stoppinattwo · 20/11/2006 12:37

I could just cut out crisps, chips n sweeties (and spuds on special occasions!!) before xmas, and then the big guns after? I want to try and do something positive at least, if i could shirt 1/2 a stone before xmas it would be a start. I think that may be the way to do it, Im in danger of never getting started otherwise, does this mean i can still be in the gang, albeit partially!!
