I'm not hungry, just bored and not really even bored. Tired, maybe?

I'm in such a terrible rut. I eat a ridiculous amount of crap and am trying to break the bad habits I've had for such a long time.

But, oh my goodness, it's hard!!

I have successfully put the babybel back in the fridge and the Pom bears back in the cupboard Smile

I want to start swimming but I'm not very good at it Blush. My friend and I are going to go to an improvers class after Christmas so hopefully that will be the start of a regular trip to the pool.

I used to walk quite a lot in my job but seem to be in the car far more than on foot recently so must try and add some walking into my daily routine.

Today hasn't been the best so far. Ds is off school (inset day) and I stupidly took him for a day out to a nearby big city, not realising that Black Friday has become a big deal here Hmm.

We started off with a wetherspoon's breakfast...poached eggs on a muffin and hollandaise sauce. Then had a big fat latte and shared a piece of cake to get over the trauma of shopping Blush. Haven't had any lunch yet but can't think what to have to turn things around a bit. We've got a pizza for tea but I'm planning on only having a slice and loading up the rest of my plate with salad.

Does everyone do a regular weigh in? Previously, I've weighed myself daily and find it a good motivator. If I've lost anything, it makes me feel like all this is working and worth carrying on with it. If I've stayed the same or put on, it pushes me to make better food choices. I know people say you shouldn't way as often as this and I'm aware that there are other factors involved but I'm at the point where I just have to do what works for me Grin.

Right, I'm off to peruse MFP for some lunch inspiration GrinGrin

One of the reasons I LOVE Paul Mckenna is that he addresses emotional issues connected to eating, that we've all got, slim or not IMO Grin

He says we're not bad or good we've just got into some bad habits that can be changed to better ones !! Also we must love, or at least ACCEPT ourselves (not call ourselves bad names etc.). He thinks that weighing daily can lead to obsessions and beating ourselves up . I hardly weigh at all (I can tell by my clothes if I 've put on a bit of weight !!).

Jumblebee · 28/11/2014 17:42

I went for a buffet lunch today-stupid stupid stupid! But I'm absolutely stuffed now so if I'm hungry later I'll probably have a salad! Not going to beat myself up over it, as it was delicious Smile

I try and stick to weighing myself every week, but sometimes if I've had a good couple of days I'll have a sneaky look to see how I'm doing!

Hiccup I hope you enjoyed that cake and latte, I was in town as well and it was PACKED! I would have had a coffee to regain my strength but I just wanted to go home in the end.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 28/11/2014 18:08

Buffet lunch sounds yummy but a calorie-counters nightmare Grin

I've only been weighing for the last few days because I was too scared of what I'd see on the scales Blush. I do get a bit obsessed but I think I really need to be for me to shift some of this weight. Hopefully, once it's gone, I'll be a bit more relaxed about it.

Yes, I certainly did enjoy Grin...it was a little cafe, down a back street, on the way back to the car. The place was empty (ie very peaceful!!) and they only charge £1 for hot drinks on the last Friday of the month so was a bargain too Grin...gave us enough energy to get back to the car and do battle in the traffic!!

OP posts:
Jumblebee · 29/11/2014 13:42

I know, tried to console myself by saying "I didn't eat THAT much, i was sharing with DD" (who threw most of hers on the floor) but I know I pigged out!

Same here, when I go off the rails I avoid the scales at all costs because I don't like to see the damage I'm doing. Maybe if I did keep up weighing myself weeky I wouldn't be where I am now :(

I was on a cleaning frenzy this morning and skipped breakfast (and I love breakfast!) so I had scrambled eggs on toast with some tomato and onions mixed in. Now I feel a bit sicky and I'm tired. Lay on the settee watching My Hero on netflix while DD napped. Now she's awake I really need to clean my kitchen. It's tiny and what little surface space we have is covered in dishes and clutter. Sometimes I hate being a grown up Confused

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 29/11/2014 15:26

Sounds like we're having a similar day!!

Didn't have breakfast until 11 and haven't found any enthusiasm to do anything productive all day. Had lunch about an hour ago and kept telling myself i'd get going once i'd had lunch...I've got so much to do. Just debating whether to make myself a coffee and write off the rest of the day or skip the coffee and go and pick stuff up from a friend's. I'm not even dressed yet Blush. I arranged to go at 4 so I should go and not mess her about.

I'm sure the buffet wasn't that bad Grin. Do you find just knowing the calorie content helps to choose something better/different? I am obsessed, aren't I Blush!!! It's the only way I can make good choices!!

Don't be Sad...we'll all get to the weight we want Smile

Your scrambled egg sounds nice. How's the kitchen cleaning going? I'm about to do the same...then I'm going to get dressed and pick up stuff from friend.

OP posts:
Jumblebee · 29/11/2014 15:43

The kitchen is done, thankfully Grin need to start the living room but I'm having time of the month pains so instead I'm on the settee (again!)

Knowing calories definitely helps, but all the lower calorie things just seem so boring to the lovely calorie laden cheese stuff!

Well it's Saturday night, if there's one night to have a treat it's Saturday! I have a bar of dark chocolate in the cupboard that I plan on denting this evening Grin

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 29/11/2014 22:35

Well done...mine is the same as it was this afternoon Blush

Enjoy your chocolate!! I've finished logging my food for the day...water only for me Grin

ppeatfruit · 30/11/2014 09:31

As I said I know we're all different but TBH calorie counting is not worth it , I lost all my weight never counting a calorie at all or weighing food or anything like that. You eat slowly and consciously; chewing up to 20 times really kick started the P.M. WOE for me, (not in front of a screen or anything) you feel full quite quickly and CAN'T eat any more and you lose weight Grin.

But You MUST eat when you feel hungry.Have a glass of water and or a herbal tea if you think it might be a false hunger. It is also best to eat 'proper' food (healthy as possible). It stays in your gut longer and you feel more satisfied.

Zalen · 01/12/2014 11:13

Good morning, I hope everyone had a good weekend. Jumblebee, buffet lunch sounds lovely, not great for the weight loss plans but I think it's all part of learning a better approach to food in general.

Hiccup, I weigh daily too, although I generally don't weigh Saturday and Sunday as I've usually been bad on Friday and Saturday. I know people say you shouldn't but I've also read that it can help because it means you can correct things quicker if you start going off the rails (which I do quite regularly)

I've not eaten well this weekend, think MacDonalds, Greggs and Haribo, at least I kept away from the Ben & Jerrys. 3lb down from last Monday so it's a good start, just need to keep it going, I need to lose 1.73lb a week to meet my target of 11st by 14th March.

ppeatfruit · 01/12/2014 12:14

But Zalen you're not bad or good it's just habits and ways of seeing foods or whatever that can be changed, have a look at Paul Makenna it's fascinating and it works for life Grin.

Zalen · 01/12/2014 12:50

Oh I was definitely bad, but that's OK it was the weekend, today I'm behaving myself.

Over the last year or so I've finally learned a little about the way my mind works and this is what works for me, but as someone said above, we're all different and what works for one won't work for someone else.

obrigada · 01/12/2014 16:04

Afternoon, eating was so out of control this weekend, I just could not seem to get enough. I know it's because I was bored, lonely, etc etc but still could not seem to stop myself.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 01/12/2014 16:54

Obrigada - it's tough when you're in that frame of mind, isn't it. Hope Monday has brought some motivation Smile

I have just resisted the urge to eat half a loaf of white toast with salted butter and jam.

Have had the half a mince pie I was saving for after my tea instead Blush

OP posts:
Jumblebee · 01/12/2014 18:49

Obri don't beat yourself up over it, it happens but it's not the end of the world Smile

Hiccup I wish you hadn't mentioned toast, white toast + butter = heaven in my eyes!

I had a bit of a crap weekend. After I had my lunch on Saturday I just kept feeling worse and ended up throwing my guts up (I'm hoping no one is eating and reading this!) Managed a few nibbles of dry toast at bedtime but that was it. I felt rotten Hmm Sunday I wasn't much better and had to send DD to her grans because I wouldn't have done a very good job looking after her! So had toast with jam and margarine for breakfast and then again for lunch because it's all I could handle. Then 3/4 of a margarita pizza for tea because the thought of the lovely ham I cooked the day before was not appealing.

Feeling much better today and have eaten quite well Smile porridge for breakfast, ham and avocado salad for lunch and turkey curry for tea. Debating having rice with it but I'm trying to cut down on carbs and rice has never really appealed to me!

On that note, does anyone know how many grams of uncooked rice makes a portion for one person? Google seems to come back with American measurements Confused

I find counting calories helps me because there were foods I never realised were quite so high in calories (like pasta and potatoes!) plus I like to see what I've eaten and what it all breaks down to in terms of nutrition. Just updated the myfitnesspal app and whenever you add a new food if it's particularly high or low in something it tells you. I felt good when it told my porridge was low in saturated fat, but felt bad when it told me the margarita was the opposite!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 01/12/2014 19:04

Sorry, jumble !!! Sorry to hear you were unwell Sad

I'm not sure about the rice portion...would MFP be able to help? As an alternative, have you tried cauliflower rice? I keep meaning to try it.

Ham and avocado salad sounds lush...I really love avocado. I cut one open on the weekend and had the same reaction as I would have if I'd opened a chocolate orange three weeks ago Grin.

I went to a Christmas party at a toddler group this afternoon and managed to avoid all party food...although, the cocktail sausages almost had me GrinGrin

I totally agree with your last paragraph. Sometimes, I think something is ok and am really Shock when I realise it's really not. It's completely re-educating me.

OP posts:
Jumblebee · 01/12/2014 19:21

Thank you Hiccup, it was miserable but I'm a lot better today Grin

Myfitnesspal was mainly cups as well but I did find a few, one said 150g but I didn't think that was a portion, just a random measurement. I always always end up doing too much rice and pasta and I hate waste!

The salad was delicious, I had some salad dressing as well so it wasn't plain. I love avocado too, I wish it was acceptable to just sit and eat them by themselves but I think DP would judge me :(

Well done on avoiding the buffet, party buffets are normally full of the best stuff (I would have devoured every cocktail sausage there)

I think I did the Shock face when I found out that 2 large eggs is over your daily cholesterol limit! I love eggs and could quite happily eat them all day, so I dread to think what my cholesterol is like!

Jumblebee · 01/12/2014 19:24

Also meant to say I really want to try cauliflower rice, I saw someone mention it on Megg's thread in Chat (which was good at spurring me on!) and I think I'd probably prefer it over real rice.

I like the idea of going wheat free but for now I think I just need to focus on eating a more balanced diet and losing a bit of weight Smile

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 01/12/2014 19:46

I cooked risotto rice tonight and the packet said 75g per person...maybe the same for normal rice?

I'm not a huge fan of cauliflower (unless it's coved in cheese sauce Grin) which I think is why I keep putting off trying it. However, I do have one in the fridge so maybe I should give it a go this week.

My favourite lunch is chopped avocado, chopped cherry tomatoes and prawns with a spoon of mayo. All mixed together and served on a rice cake.

Re eggs. I thought eggs were ok now. My aunt always used to go on about their high cholesterol levels and was absolutely delighted when she read that it wasn't the case anymore.

The last time I tried to lose weight, I ate a hard boiled egg salad most days.

Have you tried balsamic vinegar instead of dressing? I find it a good alternative.

Does anyone take a vitamin supplement? Sometimes I feel so sluggish and wondered if I'm deficient in something or maybe I just need to go to bed earlier!!

OP posts:
Jumblebee · 01/12/2014 21:44

Next time I have rice I shall try that, and if it's too much I'll shovel it on DP's plate Smile

I think the cheese may be counter productive Wink maybe have a back up, just in case you don't like it!

I don't eat fish (apart from tuna) so that would be a no go for me (although I've never actually tried prawns, so maybe I'm missing out and haven't realised yet...)

Oh I don't know, MFP still says I go over cholesterol levels but obviously MFP is not the law of food! I still love eggs and I shall still eat them till the cows come home Grin

Balsamic vinegar is normally my go to salad dressing, DP used the last of it last week though Hmm I have almost ran out of food so I'll need to do another shop on Thursday if I can beg someone to take me, it shall be on the list!

I don't take any supplements but it's something I wonder if I SHOULD take or not. I often feel sluggish as well. Normally in the morning. If I'm the one up with DD I feel fine but if I have a lie in and get up when I want I literally have to drag myself out of bed!

ppeatfruit · 02/12/2014 12:36

I find the 'sluggishness' is caused by wheat (it knocks out dh) he literally can't move when he's had wheat, also it gives him a bad mood. There's great book by an American doctor William Davis M.D. called Wheat Belly that really spells out why it's a no no for most of us.

I live 50% in Fr. so of course it's not easy to cut it out but we manage it most of the time Grin

Jumblebee · 03/12/2014 14:21

I didn't know that ppeat, I'm learning something new every day Grin

Yesterday wasn't the best day, porridge for breakfast, ham salad sandwich for lunch (it was either that or a cheese and tomato panini!) and beans on toast for dinner Hmm desperately need to do a food shop!

Took the last of our money and bought some fruit and veg for today's food, and I've just finished a huge ham and avocado salad. Meatballs for tea tonight Smile

ppeatfruit · 03/12/2014 16:23

Sorry Jumblebee But be careful with pork products ; they are high in saturated fat, salt, chemicals, and are acid forming, if you have any aches and pains pork can give you them.

DH was getting really bad pains in his legs I suggested he stopped the pork and he can run about now!!

Jumblebee · 04/12/2014 10:08

I don't eat a lot of pork generally, it's not something I tend to buy really, so I'm not too worried about the salt.

Well I've lost 4lbs this week, so down to 15st 6lbs. Happy but it's mainly due to being ill at the weekend and barely eating!

To top this week off, I'm starting to get a cold so feel a bit rotten today. 2 bouts of illness in the space of 1 week is NOT fair!

How's everyone getting on? I'm going to aldi later today, will find it hard to resist buying all the nice Christmas food but I've a very strict budget so it's basic shopping for me!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 04/12/2014 11:26

Well done on the 4lb loss!! At least there's some advantage to being unwell Grin.

I hope your cold passes quickly.

I was feeling a bit disheartened earlier in the week when I'd put on 3 of the 4lb I'd lost but they were off again yesterday Confused

I went out for a Christmas meal with friends last night so went way over my allowance but not excessively.

Today is going well...spent the morning at toddlers and have just realised I didn't snaffle even a crumb of a custard cream so I'm pleased with that Grin
