Any naturally slim people want to take part in my experiment?

I am sick of eating 'diet' food and I have a theory...

If you are naturally slim - I mean you eat a healthy diet without worrying if you're eating too many calories and don't have to 'watch' your weight. Does such a person exist?

Anyway if this is you, what do you typically eat in a day? I don't believe slim people eat diet stuff all day. My theory is that I don't have to eat diet foods to lese weight, I need to make subtler changes to my eating habits.

Does any of that make sense?

Anyone care to share with me their eating habits?

NotABraBurningOtter · 30/09/2006 20:05

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/09/2006 20:07

Perhaps tea is the key.....

Typical day for me

2 cups of tea (with milk one sugar)

Breakfast - banana and a yoghurt or sultana bran and milk.

Lunch - ham salad sandwich - more tea

3 O'clock another banana or a s couple of slices of fruit bread, coffee

Dinner - usually something like chilli/spag bol with pasta/rice or a proper dinner roast, potatoes, veg.

Evening a couple of glasses of wine or more tea!

I drink a fair amount of water through the day - usually have a sports bottle with me. Run 3 or 4 times a week and go to an aerobics/weights class but don't do much incidental excercise like walking.

I suppose I don't really do dessert after any meal, may have another piece of fruit. I snack on raisins or prunes. I love fruit!Tend not to have more than two rounds of bread a day.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/09/2006 20:09

Can't spell exercise either lol!

jabberwocky · 30/09/2006 20:09

Well, I'm 29 weeks pg right now, so not on my completely regular eating habits IYKWIM, but here goes:

breakfast - canned breakfast drink while driving to work

yogurt at mid- morning

chicken potstickers, an egg roll, a fortune cookie and a pear for lunch.

It's only 2:08 here so no dinner yet.

morningpaper · 30/09/2006 20:10

People think I eat LOADS but I tend to eat more socially and if I eat by myself I am quite conscious of WHAT I am putting into my body and make sure it has the most nutrients etc. I also try to avoid ANYTHING processed or with artificial stuff in, because I think it makes you feel shite and not satisfied.

Brekkie: Muesli, natural yoghurt, grapes, banana
Snack: Wholewheat toast, butter, couple of apples
Lunch: Usually something cooked, pasta and homemade veg sauce
Snacks: Raisins, fruit
Dinner: Big cooked dinner every night

BarefootJasnem · 30/09/2006 20:10

I'm 5ft 8in, size 10.
Today I ate

Breakfast - Shreddies, semiskimmed milk, sugar, milky tea

Lunch - curly whirly bar more tea

Tea - cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes, slice of cake, water.

Afterkids are in bed - glass of wine, bag of crisps, more tea. I would also eat chocolate if I had any in the house.

This is not unusual for me. I can comfortably get to 4pm, brfore feeling hungry and then realise I forgot to have breakfast. I eat more inthe evenings, plus too much sweet stuff. I only drink tea all day , but am trying to replace some of it with water.
I'm sure my body shape is inherited, sorry.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/09/2006 20:12

Oh yes chocolate - how could I forget! But usually just a couple of squares of plain is enough to satisfy!

expatinscotland · 30/09/2006 20:12

I'm naturally slim/average. Have never had a weight problem, been on a diet, counted calories or owned a bathroom scale.

Today I had:

Brekkie - bowl of porridge w/raisins mixed in, + two large mugs of coffee.

A banana a couple of hours later

Lunch - a burger from 'Well-Hung' Aberdeen Angus beef stand at the farmer's market, w/onions and tomatoes.

Snack - bread w/Nutella and a mug of tea

Tea - a trout cake + roasted veg w/couscous.

About to have a slice of carrot cake when I sit down to watch 'Afterlife'.

Tatties · 30/09/2006 20:13

I am naturally slim, but I'm not obsessed with calorie counting, etc. I do eat healthily, eat plenty of fruit, veggies and fish, and no meat. I don't have a massive appetite at each meal, but I get hungry frequently throughout the day. So I'd say I eat little and often. If I want some chocolate, glass of wine, whatever, I have it. But I don't go mad, I just stop when I'm full/ had enough. I don't feel compelled to finish a pack of biscuits or a bar of chocolate just because it's there. Everything in moderation! I don't do much excercise apart from running around after my toddler, a bit of swimming and pilates. I am bf at the moment though, so maybe I'll get a shock when I stop!

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/09/2006 20:14

Expat - what's trout cake?

themoon66 · 30/09/2006 20:16

Tea seems to be very popular amongst the slim it would seem.

drosophila · 30/09/2006 20:17

It's not what you eat it's why you eat. Tinker is 100% right. She has a healthy relationship with food. How do you get a healthy relationship with food I have no idea.

I have heard a couple of theories:

A lot of what we do is out of habit. Change your habits. e,g go to bed at a different time or leave the office at a different time or go home a different way. According to the theory a lot of our eatin habits are connected to other habits.

Another book I heard of is 'French Women are not Fat' or something like that. It was all about how the french love their food nothing is forbidden and like Tinker stop when full. They also walk loads. I believe the book is full of tips. Things like take time over your food enjoy it and really savour it.

southeastastra · 30/09/2006 20:17

i love tea

expatinscotland · 30/09/2006 20:18

A very scrummy fishcake from Drummond Fish Farm, Perthshire.

You can fry them, but they're fairly big, so I always put them in the oven.

BarefootJasnem · 30/09/2006 20:19

I do walk alot, and am veggie, too.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/09/2006 20:20

Sounds yummy expat.

It's bad to drink tea with food especially if you're anaemic.

Sadly I don't take my own advice and am often anaemic

expatinscotland · 30/09/2006 20:28

I have tea w/a nibble, but not w/a meal.

Coypu · 30/09/2006 20:34

Jasnem you eat a lot like me ( NotanOtter) i had tea-am
Midday coffee and muffin in costa
4pm Birthday pizza and icecream pizza express (DD birthday tomorrow)
will have some crap before bed....
Never eat till lunchtime though!

kiskidee · 30/09/2006 20:51

today i had:
two scrambled eggs, 2 slices of salami, 2 slices of whole meal bread - thick slices, with oj and tea

also had
a full bowl of cheesy pasta and spinach - home made sauce made with whole milk and lots of cheddar.

tea was shepherds pie. it was at a family pub and wasn't very good or big enough so will head downstairs in a while and scarf two or three weetabix with semi skimmed milk and dried cranberries.

i typically don't do desserts or snack during the day with the exception of fruit or very occasional choc.

water rather than soda or teas and coffees.

never been heavier than 8 stones except when pg. and i'm 5 ft 4.

Oh, if i am working out, i will eat six times a day including 12 inch pizzas to my self.

fuzzywuzzy · 30/09/2006 21:02

I've been 6/7 stones all my adult life, which is pretty skinny even though I am short.

On a normal day;
Porridge or cornflakes for breakfast and a cup of tea or tea and toast.

Coffee and croissant mid morning

Cooked meal for lunch. Generally a curry (I'm indian it's all I can cook, various curry's), or pizza, or something similar..

Tea and biscuits in the afternoon

Some kind of curry for supper followed by errmm possibly chocolate if I have any in the fridge....

Pidge · 30/09/2006 21:03

I'm 5'4" and pretty much spot on 50kg (just under 8st).

Today:

Breakfast: 1/2 a grapefruit, 1.5 sliced banana mixed with natural yoghurt, 2 slices toast with jam / marmalade.

Lunch: Bread plus cheese, 3 helpings of lettuce plus rocket salad, 1/4 galia melon

Snack - got starving at 4pm so sneakily scoffed a hobnob without the kids noticing!

Supper - baked fresh mackerel, new potatoes with a spot of butter, broccoli
Pudding - homemade chocolate caramel square! Yum.

I do seem to be able to eat quite a lot of food. But then I run 3 times a week (just did a half marathon), cycle 1hr10 minutes 3 days a week (commute to work) and hardly ever use the car on the other days - lots of walking pushing the pushchair.

I've had issues about food and my weight in the past - probably courtesy of my mum who is plump and not happy with her shape. Now I try to eat lots of fruit and veg, my only between meal snack is mid-afternoon. And I try to restrict baking (which I'm obsessed with!) to weekends.

I do think diets don't work - trying to aim to eat 5-7 portions of fruit and veg per day and only eating when you're hungry is the first best step.

Gillian76 · 30/09/2006 21:14

Wow, thanks girls. Definitely some 'food for thought' there.

Am away to put the kettle on!

Another naturally skinny one here. I am about 5' 2", size 6/8 and don't really know how much I way. Typical day is

Breakfast : 2x weetabix and milk, 2 cups of tea

Lunch: 2x peanut butter on toast, fruit

Dinner Steak in a cream/mushroom/pepper sauce and rice

Snacks Usually a couple of biscuits, dried fruit, bit of choc, glass of milk. Also drink plenty of wine, very occasionally beer.

I've noticed on the 'What's for dinner?' threads that quite a few people have desserts on a regular basis. I hardly ever do - never seem to have room!
