Just popped button off my 'fat' shorts.....

mckiwi07 · 18/06/2014 21:19

It has to stop - every year I say I am going to lose weight and each year I put weight on. My 'fat' shorts that I have had for years and always kept as I didn't want to buy new shorts in the same size as of course next year I would be a size 12 - are now too small. I am so ashamed. I start a new diet practically every day and don't last until lunch time.
I am going to post on this thread each week so that I can be accountable to myself at least.

Stats:
5'5 and 15st4

I need to lose around 4.5 stone to get to a healthy bmi
I am NOT going to diet - I am going to eat sensibly and increase fruit and veg intake and drink lots more water. My only rule is no secret eating/binging as this is my major downfall Sad

If anyone would like to join me that would be great but I am going to keep posting to help myself stay focussed.

I CAN DO THIS

I have stopped buying any chocolate or 'nice' stuff like that, as I can't just stop at a little bit. I don't think I've been too bad food wise over the last few days, but I have had a glass or two of wine. Am also still feeling really ill with this cold and cough, so exercise has been very limited. Not stepping on the scales for a few more days though, and hoping to not be too disappointed when I eventually do.

Doitforme · 25/06/2014 15:19

shiny do you think that depriving yourself of "nice " food will help you? Depriving yourself only leads to bingeing. You have to do the opposite. You need all foods you enjoy (never any diet food) and teach your mind that it can eat anything if it is truly hungry and stop as soon as satisfied. By making all foods equal you will eventually not bother with them. It is only because you see them as "naughty" that they cause a problem. This is diet mentality and will only lead to overeating and regaining weight.

shinydog · 25/06/2014 15:51

Having already lost over 3 stone and then put loads back on, I know for me I need to cut out all junk food. If it's in the house I'll eat it, if it's not , I am not bothered. I am not saying I never treat myself, but it has to be an occasional treat. I am fed up with 'dieting' and am now trying to make changes that I can stick to for life. My weakness is definitely wine these days! I also need to exercise, and find it so much harder when I can't. Hoping this cough and bad chest will go away soon so I can be more active.

BlueKarou · 26/06/2014 12:40

Had an urge to snack last night, but instead had a glass of water with a lemon cut up and squeezed into it. I think the act of preparing it helped as it felt like I was going through the motions required to make a snack.

So, a small victory. In the meantime I feel really tired today; mostly because I'm not sleeping much at the minute. I don't think it's diet-related, but I don't think that's helping; I would normally snack more if I'd not had so much sleep which would probably up my energy levels. Definitely have to address my sleeping patterns; no more staying up half the night watching Orange is the New Black.

Going to weigh in at the weekend, I think - don't want to obsessively check daily, so am thinking first thing on a Sunday morning could be my date with the scales.

I see what you're saying - Doitforme in that dieting isn't a long-term solution, and that the weight is more likely to pile back on when the diet finishes, but I think if we're aware of that we can use the diet to get the weight down, and then once we hit a healthier weight, then we can plan how to get off the diet and into a healthier way of eating. I don't think diet has to spell disaster.

Pandorassoxx00 · 26/06/2014 14:07

Exactly 30 days ago I cut all junk food from my diet and started jogging for 20 minutes a day. I have done nothing special and still enjoy regular treats as long as I don't allow myself to exceed my calorie goal on my fitness pal. I am 5"4 and started my weight loss journey at 14 stone 3lbs as of today I am 13 stone 6lbs so have lost a total of 11 pounds in 30 days.
I find it much easier to stay on track if I complete my exercise as early in the day as possible as it makes me less likely to give in and over eat.
My fitness pal is also very helpful as it allows you to log your calories. I was very surprised at how many calories I was previously eating.
Good luck with the weight loss! Smile

shinydog · 27/06/2014 07:45

Got on the scales this morning, and I appear to have lost 7lbs! Definitely gives me the motivation to carry on eating more healthily, and to stay off the wine!

StandsOnGoldenSands · 27/06/2014 08:14

Well done Pandora and shinydog, that is great!
This thread has poked me into action. My mother has A Significant Birthday in two months' time and I will see a lot of family there. I don't want to be the same old podge they've always known.
I'm 5'4, 13 stone 5 atm. My weaknesses are wine, snacks and being terminally lazy. Also eating to destress while having a v stressful job. I need to learn new coping mechanisms and also to get off my butt and exercise.

I've got a Fitbit, a set of scales and a note of shame stuck on the bathroom wall to record my weight on (I lost a stone last year by doing this).

Would love to be a stone lighter by the end of August ...

treasure84 · 27/06/2014 15:08

Love to join you all on this weight loss journey.

I am 5 ft 5" and currently a shocking 13 stone 8 pounds.

I have recently started HRT as a result of early menopause aged 29. I have been on HRT for a total of 10 weeks and have found I have gained 10lbs!

I have started tracking what I eat on mfp and cannot believe the amount of snacking I am currently doing during the day whilst looking after the children... I seem to be mindlessly wondering into the kitchen to eat, and with children in the house there is always something nice to eat. My favourite at the moment is nutella - I could eat it my the jar!

I have also started C25K running programme and completing 15-20 mins of kettlebells a day. My exercise regime had almost become non exsistent until this week bar a couple of dog walks a day.

I have previously had a lot of success with low carb dieting, much easier before I had a family, just not sure I have it in me now so have decided to adopt an everything in moderation approach.

Here goes...

mckiwi07 · 27/06/2014 21:01

Wow sounds like people are doing really well! Hoping it will rub off on me :-)
Started Paul McKs emotional eating book today, watched the dvd and am going to listen to the cd before bed tonight. I watched the dvd at lunchtime and have had no desire to over eat this afternoon.Am a bit of a sceptic but at this stage am willing to try anything to change my relationship with food.
I have also started c25k, only on week 2 but quite enjoying it when i actually make myself do it! Am running a 5k in about 6 weeks with a friend so really need to stick with it so i don't completely embarrass myself.
Am finding this thread really helpful to keep me focussed, hope others are too.

There are some really motivational stories on here... Pandora that is an amazing loss in 30 day... congrats.. also Shiny!

I have done C25K and found it really effective... but then I struggled to even attempt the W5 R3... it just seemed too much so I stopped doing it.. but must start again

mckiwi07 · 28/06/2014 16:40

Week 2 run 2 of c25k done. Am so pleased with myself for going. Was soooo tempted to go and eat rubbish instead of going to the gym but I used some of the PMcK techniques and managed not to succumb. Early days but I feel that this is a (small) victory for me and every little helps...
Hope everyone else is having a good weekend Smile

OP posts:
shinydog · 28/06/2014 19:27

Well done to everyone, let's hope we can all keep each other motivated.
I am not sure how I have managed to lose anything as I've not really been able to exercise lately. I am suffering from my asthma and a bad cough/chest infection. I got sent to the hospital yesterday for a chest X-ray, and am a bit worried now as to what they might find :(
Hoping its nothing, and I can get back to normal very soon.

PrincessTheresaofLiechtenstein · 28/06/2014 21:12

Don't want to bring everyone down but I have succumbed today. Poor choices and overeating even when very full. The one good thing is that I mostly enjoyed what I ate, and that is a step forward - it wasn't as mindless as it could have been.

Re reading PMcK and other inspirational stuff tonight and moving forwards - I made it 10 days without a binge, so all not lost.

mckiwi07 · 30/06/2014 18:39

princess don't beat yourself up - I think 10 days without a binge is great going - I know how hard it is to stop. I think the key is now how you view it e.g. it is a blip and you will get back on track rather than using it as an excuse to stop completely iyswim.
I weighed in tonight (instead of Tuesday which is my regular weigh in day) and have lost 3lbs in 6 days. Pretty pleased with that as my eating has been far from perfect but I feel like I am starting to take control and not let eating control me. One small step at a time Grin

OP posts:
mckiwi07 · 30/06/2014 18:41

shiny I hope you are feeling better? Congrats on 7lb lost - that is a fantastic loss!
How is everyone else getting on?

OP posts:
shinydog · 01/07/2014 06:53

princess , 10 days without a binge is great. Definitely don't beat yourself up about it.
mckiwi07 3lbs loss is good, well done. Looks like everyone is moving in the right direction. It really helps to come on here and 'talk' to people who are going through the same struggles.
I am still coughing a lot, and have to wait until the x ray results are back with my doctor later this week. I am still finding exercise hard, but did manage 10 minutes with my hula hoop yesterday. Going to try and at least do that every day for now, as well as some gentle exercises with my hand weights.

BlueKarou · 01/07/2014 14:01

Weighed myself at the weekend and have gone from 14st7 to 14st, so that was a good first week.

Now onto the second week and I've sort of lost my appetite completely - the salads I had for lunch last week just aren't appealing. Have had a couple of yoghurts and a couple of satsumas today, which just doesn't cut it. Anyone know of any naice lunches I can make the night before? I can have up to 600 calories, although I prefer to have less at lunch so I can have a couple of extra snacks (fruit) in the evening.

mckiwi07 · 08/07/2014 10:24

This thread has gone really quiet Smile. I hope that doesn't mean people are having difficulty. I have had a terrible weekend food wise bloody great fun though I haven't lost any weight but haven't put on either which I am pleased about. Am going to keep posting here to hold myself accountable. Hope everyone else is doing ok

OP posts:
shinydog · 08/07/2014 10:47

I had a weekend of wine and junk food, so am going to try to be very careful this week. Drinking much more water, and keeping busy so I don't snack too much.
Well done BlueKarou, that is a great loss.

BlueKarou · 08/07/2014 11:03

I'm still here... similar place to you; I had a couple of tasty-but-bad food moments last week, so my weigh in at the weekend was pretty much the same as last week (put on half a lb, which isn't as awful as it could be) - haven't planned any more situations where I might be persuaded to take a dive from the wagon, so should hopefully get back on track.

BlueKarou · 08/07/2014 11:04

Thanks Shiny - it was very encouraging to get that on the first week; I think I got a bit cocky last week. At least I know I can do it, I just have to put my mind to it.

Drinking more water and keeping busy sound like great tactics.

PrincessTheresaofLiechtenstein · 08/07/2014 13:57

Sounds like everyone is still hanging in there! Weekends are so difficult for me because of more spontaneity. Just means working even harder at mindfulness. I have had only a 1lb loss since last week but have felt more at ease around food in general.

mckiwi07 · 10/07/2014 16:58

Well if I ever needed a kick up the bum to sort myself out i just got it. Saw a photo taken in past few days with me in the background and i honestly didn't recognise the obese, old, hunched over blob that was me. I can't believe that is what i look like Sad What an example to set for my dc's

OP posts:
PrincessTheresaofLiechtenstein · 10/07/2014 22:57

Sad your dcs adore you as you are, I am sure but I totally get where you are coming from x

Fourarmsv2 · 13/07/2014 10:37

Bit of motivation?

Mckiwi - my stats were EXACTLY the same as yours on the 29th August last year.

I'm now 10stone 9lb.

I started with SW (mainly red days), moved onto The Harcombe Diet and now pretty much eat low carb high fat which has been amazing for me - never any sugar cravings, not hungry between meals, no willpower needed.

Size 20 to size 10/12 and finally on the verge of a healthy BMI.

Good luck :)
