Ok so having tried everything from ww, slimming world, dukan, south beach, ketgenic, etc... and dieted most of the 27 years of my life ive decided enough is enough and its time to get down to a weight im happy with and be able to enjoy food instead of having the love hate relationship I currently have with it.

So heres the plan, now for me I need to see quick results at first to give me the motivation to continue and juicing is definately the best for this so im going to do a 7 day juice fast followed by a 10 day detox (juice for breakfast, soup for lunch and a healthy tea with nuts and veg sticks with dip for snacks) and on the way I will record my weight change each day and my measurements weekly, id also do progress pics if I could but I dont have a mirror that allows me to take a full length photo.

Now my current weight is 10 stone 9 pounds, which for my height (5ft 8) is within the healthy bmi, but as all will know just because your in your healthy bmi, doesnt mean your happy with your body, so my goal is to get to 9st 4 lbs. Some may think this is too low for someone my height but ive been at 9st 4lbs before, and to me this was when I was happy with my figure and still within my healthy bmi (very important).

Ive tried juicing twice before, having watched 'fat, sick and nearly dead' and been inspired to buy a juicer (sage - £199 john lewis, I believe argos do a good cheap juicer tho) on both occasions I lasted a week losing around 8 pounds each time, and during the juicing I felt amazing but as with anything else I didnt stick to healthy eating afterwards and I gained all the weight back, but this time is different!!!

I woke up this morning and told myself it would be the last morning I weight 10 stone 9lbs!

Now I invite anyone that wishes to join me, and I promise to do all I can to motivate you too :)

Day 1

I woke up this morning to have a lemon with hot water (great for cleansing the system and filling u up a bit), followed by a juice made from:

3 apples, 2 carrots, 1/4 cucumber, a stalk of broccoli and a handful of spinach then blend with 1 avocado and ice......yummy!

this will no doubt keep me going till about 2, if your in work and want to do this I recommend getting a nakd juice from tesco, sainsburys, waitrose, it saves having to faff about with making a juice to take to work.

ill let you know how im getting on this evening but any questions please ask.

Jpower - I'm not commenting on your blog. I'm commenting on a thread in MN, which is a public forum.

And you did say "any questions please ask" in your OP Smile

Fwiw, I'm not here to torment you. I'm just curious about this juicing fad and would like to understand why people think it is better than just eating the fruits and vegetables themselves.

MsFiremanSam · 01/05/2014 17:54

As jpowerjones has said, I don't claim to be any sort of expert either and the things I posted earlier were said in the Super Juice Me movie. I haven't come here to be scrutinised either - just to follow jpowerjones' blog as I'm juicing myself this week. All I know is that I feel really good on it - each to their own!

Joules68 · 01/05/2014 18:00

Why not try it then? Get the energy surge for yourself and reap the physical benefits...... The way you feel physically is hard to explain. Oh, and it's hardly a 'fad' when it's been commonplace for years......

Joules68 · 01/05/2014 18:02

msfireman some people are determined to 'not get it' even when presented with the results. We can just shrug them off and carry on Grin

CoteDAzur · 01/05/2014 18:05

I'm not asking you to explain how exactly you 'feel'. We would never be able to disentangle that from the placebo effect.

I'm asking you about what you think happens when you drink rather than eat your food. You are definitely not resting your digestive system, because that is still happening in your body, not in the blender. Your body wasn't spending less time healing while you were eating the food rather than blending it first and drinking it, since that mechanism is totally different than the digestive system. I'm trying to understand the theory, but there doesn't seem to be much behind it.

Separately, you say you want to lose weight. I don't get this. Would it not be easier to lose weight if you ate this stuff and ate much less of it as a result?

This is a good link to read CoteDAzur!

Each juice on the Jason Vale plan is approximately 250 calories. With 4 a day, so 1000 calories, it'd be difficult to eat less, and possibly dangerous.

Jpowerjones1987 · 01/05/2014 18:16

Quote from the link... 'Essentially you're giving your body a chance to "rest" by introducing only liquids and no fibre. You don't want to do that forever but giving your body a short break from the hard work of digesting a "modern" diet can do a world of good!'

OP posts:
Joules68 · 01/05/2014 18:19

Oh dear, there is no placebo effect here lol

Joules68 · 01/05/2014 18:22

jpower what do you use for your juices? I'm considering a mason jar

specialsubject · 01/05/2014 18:26

The OP has proved this bonkers regime doesn't work as she put the weight back on again after stopping it. So not sure why she's doing it again, especially as her weight is fine. Obviously you do lose weight on this tiny amount of calorie input, but as soon as you stop - back you yo-yo. Diets never work long-term and yo-yo dieting is a ghastly abuse of good health.

don't mush up good veg and fruit if you have teeth. If you must, buy a £20 Argos blender rather than something that costs 10 times as much.

The concepts of detox and 'system cleansing' are utter babble. You have kidneys and a colon that do it. Clever, eh? (Junior school science)

specialsubject · 01/05/2014 18:27

oh, and kidneys and colon, like all other internal organs, don't need a rest if healthy.

CoteDAzur · 01/05/2014 18:31

"Essentially you're giving your body a chance to "rest" by introducing only liquids and no fibre"

This is blatantly wrong. Your body does not digest fibre. So even if you think digestion fatigues your body (it doesn't, btw), you should see that fibre is not involved in that fatigue and therefore omitting fibre doesn't rest your body in any way.

The author of that article and that quote Katy Young is The Telegraph's "beauty editor". Why do you think she knows anything on the subject of the human body's digestive system?

RhondaJean · 01/05/2014 18:32

What special said.

Joules68 · 01/05/2014 18:33

Sorry, not sure if it's jug or jar! I like the metal straws too

Jpowerjones1987 · 01/05/2014 18:42

Mason jars are good but I tend to just use a protein shaker, just as good and very cheap if u don't already have one.

With regards to special subjects post yes I have put some of my weight back on, but I have also stayed at a healthy weight thanks to juicing! You'll also find thousands of accounts from people who have successfully juiced and kept the weight off, I unlike some who continue to put weight on continue to try and get down to my desired weight.

As mentioned in my previous post I am using this blog as a motivation not to have people try discourage me so please therefore refrain from commenting on this post in future.

I need a way to transport my juices to work so just looking at options.

Just got some bargains from end of the day at market.... ( veg and greens)Obviously they can't sell it, and it's past it's best to eat, so it can be juiced! Win,win!! Grin

MsFiremanSam · 01/05/2014 19:31

I was thinking of getting something similar. Have you seen anything worth a look? Do you know if a normal flask is ok, or does it need to be a more specific one?
I don't find the reference to this being 'bonkers' helpful. Personally I'm not convinced about 5:2, but I wouldn't go on one of the threads and mock or criticise people for doing it.

Joules68 · 02/05/2014 00:25

Flasks are fine. I've inly seen mason jugs so far on eBay

Jpowerjones1987 · 02/05/2014 10:24

Beginning if day 4 and I haven't had a weight loss today, which I was a little disappointed with but then I know this isn't just about weight loss, it's about how I feel, and the feeling of not suffering from my IBS is amazing! Usually my ibs causes me to wake up with a bloated belly and a feeling of lethargy but today my belly felt nice and flat and I felt energised.

Started day again with a hot water and lemon followed by an apple carrot and ginger juice, I'm going to try get 4 juices in today as 3 is not enough.

OP posts:
Joules68 · 03/05/2014 18:24

Juiced beet root/celery/broccoli/apples/carrots today for after my run. Had to do a double as everyone else wanted some!

CoteDAzur · 03/05/2014 19:26

Re IBS - Have you considered the possibility that you are intolerant to something you usually eat (and that is now absent from your juicing 'diet') which may be why your IBS-like symptoms are gone?

Jpowerjones1987 · 04/05/2014 14:32

Sorry I didn't have chance to post yesterday. Busy bank holiday weekend for me which started with a nice bit of retail therapy at Cheshire oaks yesterday.

Unfortunately I didn't have a weight loss again yesterday which did make me question whether it would be better to do a juice/food combo diet but instead I told myself I'd set myself a goal to do 7 days juice only so that's what I would do, so I persevered and I lost another pound today so that's 5 pounds in 5 days which I consider to be very good.

Still feeling very energised and I made a scrummy juice yesterday which was 1/4 pineapple 2 apples and an avocado, it's in the Jason vale book but he adds a banana too. I felt it didn't need it.

Not craving any food anymore, the juices really fill me up, I'm going to start back at the gym tomorrow too, so I'll let you all know how that goes.

RufusTheReindeer · 04/05/2014 15:10

We'll done jpower

When I did juicing I lost 9lb in a week and have never gained it back. I used it to start a healthy eating plan which I didn't stick to and I gained that weight back

I really should do another one, but I think I need to be in the zone Grin

MsFiremanSam · 04/05/2014 17:47

Well done, great result so far!
I completed the 5-day plan and have lost 6llb. The best thing is that I really crave the juices now and can see it becoming a way of life. I'm sleeping better, my skin is clear and I have more energy - plus my coffee and chocolate addictions are cured!
Plan now is to start every day with a juice instead of my usual cereal or toast and coffee.
