Welcome to thread 14 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2014 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Virtual Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to Freedom From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

On the app the havening is much quicker - one emotion and three counts of 20, I think.

I'm going to do the DVD for 5 days as instructed and then I might give up resort to a shortened version.

What's in the app The Doctrine? Is there anything worth having that's not in the books/cds?

Mardy, I only have the ICMYT cd, haven't watched the DVD. The app has a similar relaxation session but it reminds you to check in etc. The first 7 days are free but I paid £2.99 for the 21 day plan and access to the panic button (quick meditations) etc.

MillyRules · 14/01/2014 20:44

I don't do the havening. I just listen to cds mainly and try and do mindful eating strictly. Don't always manage it but doing ok.

Fouette · 14/01/2014 20:49

I'm just using the app at the moment Mardy. I think that as it is at my finger tips it is a better solution for me.

Just spent about a minute gagging when he did his stopping cravings bit. Stopped as soon as he said stop. Sorry, Grin I know most of you have done this before but I'm amazed at all this!

Fouette I remember gagging at his seminar Grin now that was embarrassing!!!! But!!! when we went to the train stn, we went for a coffee and my friend said to me 'do you want a muffin?' and muffins/cakes were what I had visualised covered in nasty things...well, all I can tell you is it worked! I got that salivary feeling of I'm going to throw up' and I said 'no thanks!' Grin

Wow, thats quite an effect. I dont agree with the images of horrible things on foods I love though . Sad

Yes I did that for tesco's GF choc chip cookies. They don't make me gag but I just never fancy them any more!

Milly, I wondered that. The visualisation seems at odds with the "no food off limits" message.

I tried keeping counting last night but if I count I can't also listen and see my ideal self etc - is that OK?

Hi All

I used the craving buster in the beginning with choc. However then decided that I did'nt want to do that anymore, as I really enjoy choc.

The havening technique has always worked for me, and I have used it for other situations such as calming myself down when anxious and crying, and it has always worked for me. I don't use it that much though. Only a couple of times, but it's in what I call my toolbox with the cd's, apps and books for when I need it. I use my app or re read the books the majority of the time.

Just finished what I will describe as my 'Gourmet Breakfast', as it tasted so delicious eaten slow and mindfully. I had 2 slices of tiger bread toast slathered in anchor butter spread, 1 hob nob, and a quarter of a Mars bar with a caffe latte ( with 2 tsp brown sugar). I feel full and satisfied both physically and emotionally. All because I was able to eat what I wanted and savoured the taste.

It's weird because the hob nob tastes like apple crumble mixture in the mouth when it dissolves, rather than just a hob nob biscuit. The toast and butter tasted so luxurious when chewed, and the Mars bar was to satisfy my choc habit. I feel like I have had a 3 course meal. Not at all stuffed or bloated, but the tastes.

Also had a revelation this morning. Am using the hunger scale, and don't think I have been eating when I should, because I have not been properly recognising my body's hunger signals. I think this is due to years of over riding them, and going without food when dieting. So I feel that I no longer recognise them.

This morning I felt an empty gnawing in my stomach, and said aloud 'I feel hungry.' Now normally with PM's woe, I would ignore that if the feeling went. However I could go a whole day like this, which to me does'nt sound right. Plus I don't want to intentially put myself into starvation mode and start storing fat.

So I checked my hunger scale, and it came in at 4 which to me is slightly hungry. I had my food, really enjoyed so, going to carry on checking in more frequently with the hunger scale.

I agree Doc it is at odds with his message of eat whatever you want. Not one of his exercises I will be using anytime soon as I really love my food and enjoy all of it with this woe.
With regard to not hearing bits on cd cause your counting....it doesn't matter as it still goes in but if you want to do the visualising then stop counting Smile

Jelly my gourmet breakfast was well grilled crispy bacon, egg, mushroom and tomato. Yummy!! I find I need protein with meals otherwise I feel crap.Smile

It's good that you are learning more about yourself and when your hungry however remember if you have enough fat on your body then your body will dip into that reserve if it needs to. I can go all day sometimes until I feel that real sense of hunger and then food tastes absolutely amazing when I'm truly hungry. This is how I have lost my bf a stone. I started Christmas Day and only eat when I'm really genuinely hungry and then I stop as soon as I am satisfied which for me is about half a bacon sandwich.Smile

MillyRules · 15/01/2014 09:48

bf........auto correct, should read Half a stone!! Grin

Jellybeans456 · 15/01/2014 11:15

That makes sense. Think my body may well be dipping into my stored fat around my middle then.

In which case, it could take me at least a month before I feel truly hungry!

Don't want to go a month without food:( enjoyed it too much this morning lol

Have you been eating more protein with your meals Jelly? You were having protein shakes to fill you up so if you need that extra protein then maybe incorporate some more into your meals. Just a thought Smile

Had breakfast this morning even though I wasn't hungry. I can't get to food in the mornings and have to be quite active and upbeat. Not sure how to handle that one.

Had lunch with Paul again. He gets slower and slower on the CD. By the end I was timing it - I was allowed one mouthful every minute and a half. Not sure if I'm going to get time to haven today. Have been running around like crazy.

Well eaten more regularly today, and not too far off proper mealtimes.

Hunger scale has been 4- slightly hungry each time I have eaten. Quite pleased with myself.

Milly - have stopped the protein shakes.

Bought a slow cooker today, and cooked chicken and stew veg, with pepper, tomatoes, onion and sherry. Smelt and tasted delicious.

I'm not sure what the hunger scale is but if it's out of 10 then I eat when I'm at number 8 or 9 I guess. Really hungry and desiring food.

Hi all, well haven't been able to post yesterday as I was away for the day on a course - took longer to get to and from than I actually spent on the course, but that's normal for here as we're right on the peninsula and the road/rail links are rubbish! So I was very sensible in my eating, although partly because I didn't always have the opportunity to eat! - and the downside being that by the time I got home, put dd to bed I was probably about 2 on the hunger scale!!
Today has not been a great day - I really struggle with the 4-6pm time slot as it is when I tend to give dd tea, been out at work all day and hit that hunger where I just want to eat and eat - I did have a small meal of pitta bread, ham rocket leaves and coleslaw and really tried to eat it slowly but it was very difficult, then I had a packet of Quavers that I really didn't need to have, but at least I managed to stop after that whereas normally I would continue to eat different snacks.
My main aim has got to be to stop eating in front of the TV, but it's hard because that's when me and hubby normally sit down, watch our programmes together once dd is in bed - a precious couple of hours to relax!
Jelly - your dd sounds like mine is sometimes - non-stop hyper energy til bed!
So, end on a positive note - I have noticed I have overall been eating less sweet foods like chocolate, cake etc not automatically having a pudding in the evening which I would do even when on diets, and starting to see the 'treat' as choosing what I would like to eat most and having that for my main meal.

hi All
Yipee, all sounds good. I ate my tea in the living room tonight on a tray. I knew it was wrong at the time, but still tried to be mindful. I was'nt watching tv anyway, just wanted to be with the family who had already eaten. This was a one off, so I don't mind.

Although you are busy, you've just got to be careful that you don't get too ravenous, as there a downside to that as well. It could cause you too eat loads when you do eat, plus you don't want to go into starvation mode, whereby your body starts to store fat, as it thinks you are in a famine.

There's a bit about this in PM's ICMYT book, on the next page of the hunger scale. He mentions that dieters run the risk of this, as they get used to denying their body food, and also over run the body's hunger signals, as they may not recognise them from ignoring them for so long.

Milly- the hunger scale is in his book. Score 1 is physically faint, 2 is Ravenous, 3 Fairly hungry, 4 slightly hungry. It goes up to 10. He says that you need to eat at about 3 or 4.

Report
Jellybeans456 · 16/01/2014 09:05

Hi Fouette
the hunger scale is in all his books and on his iphone app. I,m not sure if it is his newest as although I've now got this, I haven't read it yet.
Milly- PM states in these sections to not go into either end of the scale, which includes no 2- ravenous. He says never get really hungry or completely stuffed. Live in the middle.
