I've had a quick look but can't find one, if someone could point me in the right direction, I'd be eternally grateful :)

this one is low carb and not many people on it are exercising, and if you don't you are better off not doing so at the start anyway.
Any good?

I used to be really fit, gym, swimming, walked miles, but since I had DS2 I've been really ill, have inflammatory arthritis and can hardly walk. And on the rare days I'm up to doing much, I suffer for it afterwards. I only need to lose a little bit and am doing 5:2, but all of the threads I've looked at have, as you said bag "went for a six mile run" etc, and thats just not going to happen :)

why no exercise? Are you unable to move at all?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 08/01/2014 18:51

Yes, pretty much

I have lost weight low carbing before without additional exercise.

Muscle building is supposed to help you lose weight, maybe a Slendertone could help you?

Beyond
sadly, toning is integral to losing weight
( I say that having grown up in a wheelchair dominated household)
If you are sedentary, look at the seated exercise routines on youtube - mostly designed for older people but still valid
also look at the baked bean tin workouts
and have a look at those bits of pilates that fit with your mobility

and finally, if you can, try an aqua class - because anything to get your cardio system working better will help in many, many aspects

Just take heart in the fact that losing weight is mostly applicable to diet. I lost four stone in 1995 when I joined SW, I did no exercise at all, I joined in the November and by May I had hit my target.

RalphLaurenLover · 09/01/2014 12:11

I did little to no exercise from 25/4/12 to 2013 and went from 16 stone to 11.5 stone, I didn't do SW, WW or anything else stuck to 1200Kcals and no more and it came off I even had crisp and chocolate. I'm only now incorporating 30 Day Shred as I'm 12.10 since August - Now.

It is doable :) Good luck!

capsium · 09/01/2014 13:53

As I said previously I lost weight low carbing without additional exercise. 3 stone lost this way.

So definitely doable.

Just thought the Slendertone might help for strength. Have any drug therapies worked for your arthritis? We have a friend with arthritis which has now been successfully managed. Don't know whether it is the same sort though...Anyway I hope you find the right solution.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/01/2014 16:37

Thanks guys. Slendertone is a good idea, will look into it :)

No luck with the drugs yet, appointment next month to try a different one. Problem is they are all slow to act, so need to try each for a while before trying another. Worst prob at the moment is the HMS, hypermobility has gotten much worse as my mobility got worse due to the arthritis, as the muscles aren't strong enough to hold my joints in place!

I have physio exercises to do, but its not really enough for any sort of weightloss. The trouble with upper body exercises is that my back, hands and wrists are affected by the arthritis, and my shoulders pop out too, so just getting about on crutches is hurting the top half before I "do" anything. I tried swimming back in the autumn, thought it was okay at the time, but literally couldn't move at all the next day. And I have two toddlers, I need to be able to look after them.

Hopefully I will be able to do some sort of exercise soon, but want to be managing without, so I'm not depending on it. Iyswim?

Its really annoying, I was down to perfect weight after two close together pregnancies, then this happened and it all piled back on :(

Caps I've cut out a lot of carbs, not officially low carbing, but making a conscious effort not to eat too many :)

There are loads of good books around on the subject. I have read these

www.amazon.co.uk/Protein-Power-protein-carbohydrate-weight/dp/0722539614/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389287344&sr=8-1&keywords=protein+power+book

www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=loose%20your%20middle%20aged%20middle

It worked for me and the adjustments are quite easily. More vegetables / salad on your plate instead of past / rice / potatoes.

I found it filled me up much more successfully and lost weight fairly steadily. Maintained for about 9 or 10 years but put weight on recently after going back more to my old ways of eating. So I am doing it all over again but am pleased because it is working already and I have much more energy less than a week in. Smile

specialsubject · 09/01/2014 17:50

sorry to hear that, OP.

is water exercise a possible? Many pools now have hoists and you may be able to get assistance, especially if you are registered disabled.

NoGoodAtHousework · 09/01/2014 17:53

I don't do exercise as us had I'm on slimming world. It is possible to do without exercise. Exercise just helps boost it by all accounts (not personal experience lol!)

lifesgreatquestions · 11/01/2014 11:59

I don't know if this is helpful but I lost weight quickly 5 years ago by changing what I ate. I just ate loads of fresh raw veg, boiled eggs, cheese, beans, nuts and cut out sugars, including fruits, and breads/pasta, etc. Recently I tried to lose weight by exercise and didn't adjust my quite reasonable and healthy diet, I gained muscle, strength, felt better, but did not lose pounds. My experience makes me think that exercise is helpful but diet is key so now that I have a few extra pounds I'm returning to my diet. I don't do it in a strict way, I applied it on most occasions but meals out etc., were freebie nights, which has the added bonus of not having to talk about being on a diet, which I hate as I don't like talking about my weight!
