beety, you're not entering into the spirit of the thing. First time I stayed I felt like I'd entered some weird kind of twilight zone world - my friends had already been a few times and I looked at them in horror as they joined in the cacophony of "oooooo!" and sharp intakes of breath as the Leader got us to guess the points value of a square inch of Brie. I considered pretending to drop something and crawling out of the door...

Couple of weeks in and I was ooohing with the rest of 'em? Mars Bars...97 points? Nooooooooooo!

You get gems like this at meetings:

Leader: So why have you decided to come to WW now?
Woman: Well, my weight's just going up and up...
Leader: Why do you think that is?
Woman: I dunno - I don't eat much. I don't have breakfast or lunch.
Leader: So you only have one meal a day?
Woman: Yeah, pie, chips and gravy from the chippy...

I'm not kidding - that's almost word for word.

Both my leaders have been really good, actually - though the first one was very Marjory Dawes..."Dust? Dust?"

I went for a couple of months before my wedding to shift a stone (those were the days .

I never stayed (If I could have taken my marking from school I would have , mind you, one woman used to sit there knitting). I don't think I was v popular as most weeks I won some sort of slimmer of the week thingy, but was never there to receive it.

Definitely the pressure of the weekly weigh in worked, that's what I needed at the time.

QueenBeety · 21/06/2006 09:51

it is all the claps and oo and ahhhs when you say what you have lost. And the smily lady bing smiley and saying CHoice all the time!!!

I was a serial Weight Watcher member doing slightly less well each time I joined. In the end, couldn't take the presentation and advice from the leader who had put on a stone or two herself. It was like living a Victoria Wood sketch There were loads of wrinklies who all knew each other and had been going for years (???) and having a noisy toddler to try and keep quiet/occupied whilst being told something I really already knew...I guess it worked at first but wore off.

I did resent being told to use artificial sweeteners/chemical laden gravy powders/fat free stuff etc in cooking - its at odds with my more organic/whole food ethos, especially with cooking for children as well as myself.

How do you get the self discipline to do it online? I think I need the humiliation of a weigh in. (Actually, I need a personal trainer, nutritionist and a cook - then it would be a piece of p*ss).

am back on track after bloaty few days but didn't go to weigh-in...will go next week and pay the one I missed, I suppose. once you've got the hang of tracking Points, anyone think it's advisable to just weigh yourself once a week and save lots of dosh??

i went to ww when dd was 5 months old and lost the stone or so that I needed without staying on for chats. 7 years later I have a stone to lose, and will do it the same way. when i put my mind to it I jsut do it. I find being weighted every week enough to make me keep to it.

the tlaks just make me suicidal!!!

do you think the chinese I had last night will stand me in good stead for my weigh in??

Enid · 27/06/2006 09:31

ah bless the chat

lots of old ladies

our leader is very good and bubbly

not my kind of thing (I inwardly cringe and busy myself with dd3 during the clapping) but fascinating to see how much I am really eating

have just weighed 40g of cereal

its bugger all

Anchovy · 27/06/2006 09:47

Enid - I am doing No Count and you can have as much breakfast cereal as you want (had a bowl of shreddies, a huge banana and skimmed milk this morning). When I was doing the points malarky I used to get almost tearful about how small my breakfast was and a bit panicky that it wouldn't keep me going till lunch time!

BTW I did WW after Dd was about 6 weeks old and was my pre-pregnancy weight when I went back to work after maternity leave, having lost at a very steady 1lbs a week, so good luck. Wasn't my pre-pregnancy shape for a while though (which in itself wasn't actually much to aspire to!), although pilates helped enormously.
