Soapbox, Woodpops et al, I know you've done this in the past and have read every available thread. Just wondering, a couple of years down the line, if you would still recommend this diet? Thinking about starting and have emailed lighter life. Would love to lose some weight and thought I might give LL a try. I find making time to eat breakfast and sometimes lunch hard with dd so this may suit me. Any tips much appreciated. tia Smile

Delgirl, my doctor has recommended that I do this, will email you and we must catch up with each other very soon. Will watch thread with interest !

DelGirl · 03/06/2006 11:16

oh KP, how's things? Maybe we could go together though the consultant i've contacted (well, not yet) is in xchurch but there is 1 where you live.

Did Lighterlife two years ago - GP okayed it but said he'd never had a patient stay the course. I lost 2 stone - needed to lose 3 and a half but couldn't stand it any longer. Two years later I have put on 10lbs and am now contemplating WeightWatchers. I went with a very heavy friend who lost 5 and half stone - she has since put on 1 and a half stone and is now doing another programme. Good luck if you do it!!!

DelGirl · 04/06/2006 11:15

thanks murphee. How long did it take you to lose 2 stone? good luck with WW too

Just a suggestion Delgirl but why don't you perhaps try the Cambridge Diet instead. It's the same as Lighter Life(without the counselling) and is only £33.50 a week.I've been on it since 17th Feb and have lost nearly 3.5 stone.I've come off it for 4 weeks though as it's ds's 1st birthday and our holiday shortly, but I will be going back on it soon to hopefully shift the last 4.5 stoneGrin.

DelGirl · 04/06/2006 13:51

wow bubaloo that's amazing, well done. I've booked to see the woman on Weds afternoon but there is a 2 hourly session each week which i'd also have to pay a sitter about £15 for so that bumps up the cost. I do think the counselling thing would be good for me though but perhaps I could try the cambridge diet and see if it's similar. What appeals is not having to think about what to eat and it's only dd & I, I don't have to cook for anyone else. I'll have a look, thanks Smile

Murphee · 04/06/2006 16:22

I can't remember how long exactly but I know it was really quick (7 weeks?). As for the counselling, I am a counsellor and that was what attracted me to it but I have to say the counselling part of it was only paid lip service to so I was very disappointed - that is the kind of thing that gives counselling/therapy a bad name. I would thoroughly recommend counselling to anyone but suggest you go for weekly one to one meetings. Finally (sorry!) Cambridge Diet is the one my friend is doing now.

DelGirl · 04/06/2006 19:02

I think I might give the cambridge diet a go. I looked at slimfast in the shop today and thought maybe I could do that but tbh I think I might be better not having to plan what to eat at all. I've just read through the cambridge diet website and it says that if you manage to sstay off conventional food, when you go back to it, you know you can do without huge quantities etc which kind of makes sense. Think i'll give it a try, at least it's not as expensive as LL.

OP posts:
DelGirl · 04/06/2006 19:03

Bubaloo, the site says you should only be on it for 4 weeks at a time. Do you then add a meal a day to the plan and then go back on it for another 4 weeks?

OP posts:
Bubbaloo · 05/06/2006 10:31

DelGirl-Yes,you do add a meal,but I think it's about every 5 weeks and it's hardly worth eating as it's really small,but a good idea,I suppose.
I would definately say it's the easiest diet I've tried (and I've done lots!),as like you said, you don't have to thik about food. You also do not get hungry on it,but after a few weeks, you do start fancying something (I do anywayGrin).I'm really pleased with how well I've done, but I am starting to struggle a bit,so that's why I've come off it for a few weeks-only hope I don't put too much back on,as I've Ebayed all my clothes, hee hee!

louise35 · 05/06/2006 22:33

I'd recommend it although its much more expensive than it used to be, £66 pw. I've lost over 5 stone on it and I feel normal again. I still want to lose another 10 pounds or os and I'm sticking at the same weight at the moment, maybe I've reached a plateau, who knows I must admit if there'd been Cambridge diet counsellor nearby I would have probably done that as its half the price of LL but my LL meeting is in the town where I live and work so its so handy. Its cost me a fortune but at the end of the day my health had to come first and I've found the diet so easy to do. All I can say is give it a go. Grin xx

DelGirl · 05/06/2006 22:56

thanks Louise and weel done on losing 5 stone, that's really great. I have 3 stone to lose or there abouts. I'm going to ring my local cambridge diet person tomorrow. Quite excited about it, hope I can stick to it, it will be so nice to be lighter.

OP posts:
Bubbaloo · 05/06/2006 22:57

Best of luck-You'll lose that 3 stone in no time at allGrin.

DelGirl · 06/06/2006 13:22

well i've seen the cambridge diet counsellor and they recommend that I go on the 1200 calorie one because of my kidney stones but that means eating 3 meals a day. If I have to do that, I may as well do slimming world. Very disappointed Sad as I was all geared up for it. I wouldn't mind doing the 790 programme, I'll just have to see what my gp thinks. Even if he says it's ok, they might not let me do it. Otherwise, i could do slimfast & eat a normal dinner. boo hoo Sad

OP posts:
DelGirl · 06/06/2006 13:23

apparently LL & Cambridge diet are made by the same company so it's just cost really and the counselling sessions.

OP posts:
DelGirl · 07/06/2006 19:37

I've decided to give slimfast a go. What i've tried of it so far seems nice and cost wise is no different to the cambridge diet and I think there's more variety too. The CD would've meant me eating food at every meal instead of replacements. With the slimfast I only have to think about 1 meal. WIsh me luck.

I'll resurrect this thread in a week and tell anyone who's interested how much i've lost!

OP posts:
Bubbaloo · 08/06/2006 11:26

DelGirl-Best of luck with the Slimfast.Yes,do let us know how you get on.Shame you can't do the CD,as it wouldn't take you very long to lose the weight.Totally agree, that if you can't do "sole source" then it's going to work out quite a bit if you're buying food aswell.I've been off the CD for about a week now and am enjoying he occassional treatGrin.I'm hoping not to go too mad and undo all the hard work, but only another 3 weeks and I'll be going back on it.I've bought a whole new wardrobe of clothes in my new size and a size smaller,so I've GOT to stick to it,so they fitGrin.

CarlyP · 08/06/2006 15:26

i started lighter life on 10th april. had 2wks off and i have lost nrly 3stone. i change recently to herbalife for the choc and peanut bars, wihch are more interesting! you can do it!

DelGirl · 08/06/2006 18:12

wow such fantastic weight losses. I hope mine comes off as quickly. Not sure it will though as slimfast plan recommends about 1400 calories for me but i'm going to see how I go. Today has been my 1st day and it's not been too bad so far. Had a smoothie for breakfast, banana as a snack, fish, jkt pot & salad for lunch and a meal bar mid afternoon. Having one of the soups for tea and maybe a piece of fruit or snack. I have to keep it up. Thanks for the encouragement Smile

CarlyP · 12/06/2006 16:19

how are you doing delgirl?

DelGirl · 16/06/2006 21:40

Hi CarlyP. Well I lost 6 3/4 lb in my 1st week. Had a bit of a wobble yesterday but on the whole it's really really easy. I just like that almost everything is counted. The site says I should have 1500 calories and I am so i'm not starving. I'm sure it works out cheaper food wise too. What I am doing though, which I know could be healthier, is having tesco healthy eating ready meals some nights that I can just bung in the oven and I get more variety that way. I'll update next week. Off to see family over the weekend, so we'll see Smileedrreready
