We were out for a fancy meal last night. We had the tasting menu but I managed to stay relatively low carb - only had a bite from a rye roll and a caramelised onion roll and a tiny nibble of one of the fondant potatoes - and the trio of chocolate desserts was my only real aberration (but they were very small Wink) glossing over the three and a half glasses of wine including a sweetie BlushWine)

The celeriac soup was to die for - so beautifully velvety. Smile

Grin....thanks for the lovely welcome ladies. I did eat this way years ago and I never gained any weight. It was only when I started adding carbs that my weight went up again and even though I don't eat much (about 900 to 1500cals per day) I can never lose much weight eating carbs without starving myself. So with the help of BIWI and all you lovely ladies and your brilliant success stories I am in this for the long haul. I have my daughters wedding next year but I also am so frustrated at not being the size I want to be. Losing a stone would be brilliant, that would make me a size 14 and two stone would make me size 12. It doesn't seem much but it would make me feel so much better about myself.

Do you follow John Biffas low carb woe or Atkins if you don't mind me asking.Blush

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 21/04/2013 17:55

I have a feeling I am going to be the most ahem poked by BIWI and her big stick! Grin

Rules - I follow IPD, sort of and a bit of John Briffa.

BIWI · 21/04/2013 17:59

Most of the time I follow Bootcamp Light - which is my own version of low carbing, based on the various different low carb plans that I have read over the years.

Stuck a gammon joint in the slow cooker today, then had that for dinner with an amazing onion/parsley sauce! Also had some baby carrots (being more relaxed with veg while in non-bootcamp). The sauce was a shallot softened in some butter, then cream & an egg. Whisk the whole time, until it thickens. Add a pinch of salt & a handfull of fresh chopped parsley. It was amazing!

I have my college interview tomorrow - wish me luck!

Rulesgirl, I follow only the bootcamp rules, which are neither Briffa or Atkins 100%.

Rulesgirl · 21/04/2013 18:04

Jax is IPD paleo?
Thanks BIWI....you have quite a following don't you.....so you must be doing something right...Smile

BIWI · 21/04/2013 18:14

I hope so! Grin

I don't think IPD is paleo - it's just low carb.

Just posted a load of new photos in this thread here

WillieWaggledagger · 21/04/2013 18:29

If you get tinned tuna get the one in olive oil

WillieWaggledagger · 21/04/2013 18:31

Ooh we were going to make a list of low carb / good value brands weren't we?

Total full fat Greek yoghurt
Delouis mayonnaise

Let me know others if you think of them

Yama · 21/04/2013 19:13

Lidl

I prefer Lidl's full fat Greek yoghurt. And $1.49 for an enormous tub (sorry my pound sign isn't working). A drop of almond oil gives it a different vibe. I combine with a tablespoon of milled flaxseed if I'm in need of a more substantial snack.

Lidl also do bags of frozen lamb chops with lovely big bits of fat on them.

For drizzling on salads I can only tolerate Lidl's extra virgin olive oil.

Lidl also do their own pepperami type snack. They come in a red packet in twos. Oh, the chorizo is very fatty and will do us two meals so very cost effective.

Aldi
We've been sampling the German saugsages in Aldi. They are great and between 1-2g per 100g.

Milled flaxseed is very cheap.

Other
Funky Coconut oil is just divine.

I find that Sainsbury's Duck fat is the best.

sybilfaulty · 21/04/2013 19:34

Can I lower the tone and suggest pork cracking (the fatty ones, not the airy ones) as snacks - Asda do 6 very small packets for 1.50, whereas the hogsback ones from tesco are a 99p per large packet. The M and S ones are £1.50 per large pack (suits 2 greedy people) so are best avoided.

Babybel is a good snack. Also tesco / asda do their own pepparami which is half length.

I do realise bootcamp is about unprocessed natural food but these are good to have in your bag in case of cravings or in case you are out and there actually is no LC food available (or you don't want to draw attention to yourself by asking for things without the potato etc).

prettybird · 21/04/2013 23:21

Had a lovely gourmet if I say so myself Wink low carb meal tonight if I ignore the wine

Fillet of beef roasted/braised in Madeira and red wine then rolled in chopped fresh herbs and served with a thyme and juniper jus/reduction
Veg were celeriac rosti (grated celeriac with chopped shallots, nutmeg and butter), creamy leeks and roasted asparagus.

Dessert was courtesy of the recent Guardian chocolate article: chocolate and orange cardamom pots - dark chocolate, egg, cardamom infused milk and orange zest and juice. Very simple but very intense.

Not Boot Camp but pretty good for Boot Camp Lite.

Conveniently forgetting the bottle of Grange we shared amongst 3 and the glass of Stanton & Kileen Rutherglen Muscat

Bessie123 · 22/04/2013 00:28

I can't bear that Delouis mayonnaise - it tastes like cheap oil to me, not delicious. I have seen a fresh one in waitrose, don't know what that's like. I have gone back to helman's.

Following my recent shameful days of no cooking I made some hollandaise sauce this morning and had it for breakfast on steamed asparagus and a poached egg. Tuna salad for lunch then I made a yummy prawn balti for dinner, with cauli rice. I might post the recipe on mn if anyone wants it..?

choos thankyou for the sympathy and moral support Thanks. You're right, I am having a bit of a rocky time of things. My life is still going tits up in a number of different areas but I at least have control over what I'm eating and being healthy.

Bessie123 · 22/04/2013 00:28

prettybird those choc pots sound nice

MrsHerculePoirot · 22/04/2013 06:44

Yrs please to recipes bessie

rules I follow bootcamp most of the time.

JakeBullet · 22/04/2013 07:09

Liking the recipes thread.

I am well and truly back on the wagon now. Just had a lovely coffee but had to have a splash of milk as am out of cream until the shopping comes. As I am without a car I couldn't even go and get it yesterday.

Feeling so much better again....tis WOE definitely works for me.

I do think that I need to look at the recipes a bit more as I am being too "samey" with my meals and suspect I was getting bored with the same meals before. Some of the recipes sound fabulous.

DS has started the MEND course (he is autistic and compulsively eats) as he is now definitely overweight Sad. It's going to be difficult as their idea of "healthy eating" no longer matches MINE! Am going to watch what DS is eating but think I will focus on his evening meal being low carb/high fat as evenings are when he binges. We no longer keep pasta in the house as he eats it dried by the handful and I would like to reach a stage where we no longer have bread here either as he will eat slice after slice. Have been doing him the same as me for evening and just a few new potatoes added to his, Some evenings I have omitted the pots and added extra sprouts with butter (which he loves).

It's not easy sorting him out at breakfast though. Breakfast cereals (which I memorably saw described on MN as "shit in a box") are his choice of breakfast and I don't feel I can do bacon and eggs every morning for him. He does like boiled eggs (with soldiers natch) and I am wondering about a thin slice of bread plus lots of butter or peanut butter as an option as his "soldiers".

Packed lunches are usually sandwiches, fruit and crisps or something so I need to get my act together about that. Thinking that cubes of cheese, cucumber, lettuce and something else might be better for him.

Any kids ideas are welcome Grin

Morning! I'm officially back on the low-carb wagon today after a 3 week break for wedding, honeymoon and pre-marathon carb loading. I've put on 10lbs in those 3 weeks but hoping I will shift them but a couple extra during the next bootcamp.

Lovely to see some lots of peeps from the previous bootcamp still here!
