So here it is - come and weigh in for the last time and tell us how much you've lost in Bootcamp.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here

BAB: Parmesan fried chicken, 2 black farmer chipolatas
L: chicken curry, cauli rice, chilli cabbage
D: grilled lamb chops, green veg with butter, salad with parmesan slivers, strawberries mashed with cream and mascarpone

no snacks - it's a miracle Shock

I have baked a smoked mackerel quiche (crustless) for tomorrow's BAB - basically it's mackerel custard. hmm, will report back

HeirToTheIronThrone · 10/04/2013 22:44

A good day here too:
B - Greek yog
L - salad with mozarella and oily dressing, pâté spread on cucumber slices
D - swede mash, pork chops with creamy mustard leeks
Plus a pepperami and babybel...

Tomorrow I am trying out the cauliflower pizza, it better be good as DP is suspicious to the point I have had to promise to order him one from the takeaway if he doesn't like it... And then celeriac tartiflette for when my LC doubting mother comes to stay on Friday.

TreeLuLa · 11/04/2013 00:16

Day 2 of the Uber camp completed.
Day three tomorrow and my LOVELY friend is having us all over for lunch - and is doing a low carb lunch - salmon and salad yummmmmmm.

Awwww, Ginot you look fabulous. Looks like you had a magical day Smile

Just dropping in to say hi, new job and life chaos = utter exhaustion, missing DCs dreadfully and not enough time for MN! But I am off the wine again... And a few pounds dropped back off Grin

Who posted tartiflette recipe? Good grief that is heaven on a plate...

I've bough the Biffa book about why men carry to much weight around their middle. Anyone else read it?. It is fab... Ad has convinced my LC doubter of a husband to stop scoffing the pasta!

BlackAffronted · 11/04/2013 07:50

I cant get hold of any celeriac :( Lidl & Morrisons used to stock it, but have stopped. Same with shallots. Are they out of season now?

BlackAffronted · 11/04/2013 07:56

Where's my evil twin gone?

BIWI · 11/04/2013 08:10

Morning all. Lots to catch up on!

Welcome, oblomov. I don't have any direct experience or knowledge of type 1 diabetes or Bernstein's work, so am hesitant about advising you. However, I would say that you definitely need to avoid sweetcorn as by anyone's definition it is way too carby.

Ginot - beautiful pictures, and looks like you had a lovely day! Flowers

Ruprekt -

To all those who are struggling to get back on the wagon, there's no easy way for anyone to help you, sadly. We can give you all the encouragement you might need, but ultimately you have to make the decision for yourselves.

There is no point having a Big Ass Breakfast and then eating sweets, chocolate or pastries later in the day. That way madness fatness lies!

Please, please, please be mindful about what you are putting in your mouth. Why are you doing it if you know it is going to sabotage your best efforts? All you are doing is making it worse for yourself. No-one else is doing it to you!

Argh - no eggs and no peppermint tea in the house. Just had bacon with some grated cheese on top. Was alright but I miss my eggs.

sybilfaulty · 11/04/2013 08:32

BIWI you are wise. I've just had my BAB of eggs, bacon and chargrilled veg and am confident I won't need to eat til supper or late pm at least.

It's just a mindset thing for me. If I am in slacker mode I do eat the odd bit if choc rather mindlessly but if I am in the zone I don't really want anything so I don't bother. After 2 weeks of being a sugary twat I am back on it. The gallons of water also helps with twatty cravings most of the time.

EwanHoozami · 11/04/2013 09:15

I found that having a huge breakfast didn'it work for me. True, I didn't want lunch but I didn't like getting hungry again mid-afternoon, it felt too much like the 3pm blood sugar dips of the carby days. Back to 3 meals a day for me

ginot you look wonderful, what a lovely dress!

WillieWaggledagger · 11/04/2013 09:21

i would struggle with the BAB on a daily basis too Ewan, though i can see how it works well for others on here, and i do do similar at weekends

i think it's because i leave for work at 6am, so have breakfast at 5.45 so i'm always going to be getting hungry by lunchtime. so during the week i have a smaller breakfast (two scrambled eggs for example) and then an early lunch at 11.30 to 12

at weekends i eat a large breakfast at 10am-11am and then don't have anything until supper time. but i don't have children so can suit myself a bit more with mealtimes

WillieWaggledagger · 11/04/2013 09:28

i've been reading a thread on another forum i frequent discussing low carbing, and several people are struggling with starting the day well and then falling off the wagon during the day

one of the key things seems to be that some of them are not planning tasty lunches for themselves, so they don't fancy what they have and either don't eat (and get hungry and eat carbs later) or they choose to have carbs instead.

someone on these threads said something really important a few weeks ago (I forget who it was, sorry) - if you have an unsatisfying meal you are much more likely to pick and snack and make poor food choices later.

so if you're struggling to get back on the wagon after easter, i would strongly suggest planning your VERY FAVOURITE low carb meals for the next few days, for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with plenty of variety. once you're back into the swing of it you can survive the occasional less satisfying meals if necessary, but you need to make sure you are looking forward to your meals in order to combat your body's initial feelings of being deprived of carbs

BIWI · 11/04/2013 10:18

One thing I would also add is if you are hungry then you must eat. I'm a bit concerned about all of you talking about having a BAB and then not expecting to eat until the evening.

Thing is, it's natural to feel hungry at a certain time, and expecting to go for hours without eating is really pushing the benefits of low carbing to their maximum.

If you end up starving hungry, and you haven't planned to have a lunch, you will end up looking for snacks, and chances are they will be high in carbs.

Please remember that the first rule of Bootcamp is to eat three meals a day.

I'm not really sure what people are trying to achieve by not eating lunch. It's not fasting. And it shouldn't be about calorie cutting.

If you make a low carb meal, there is absolutely nothing wrong with eating three meals a day. Cutting lunch out isn't necessarily going to result in faster weight loss. Especially not if the result is more snacking/higher carb snacks

Sorry for the shoutiness and general Big Stick waving when we're not doing Bootcamp btw Blush

OP posts:
Bessie123 · 11/04/2013 10:25

biwi I really needed the Big Stick, thankyou. I am fine through the day but keep eating chocolate in the evenings. Like you say, it's up to me if I want to lose the weight and if I keep sabotaging myself then I never will. I am going to keep repeating that to myself in the evenings.

MrsHerculePoirot · 11/04/2013 10:25

Haha! Good points to make though.

If course we can just have a BAB, BAL, BAD every day as long as you stick to the rules... (And stop when full!)

MrsHerculePoirot · 11/04/2013 10:26

bessie clean your teeth and drink peppermint tea, chocolate is yuck the !

Bessie123 · 11/04/2013 10:27

Thanks for the tip, I will try it later Wink

Ruprekt · 11/04/2013 10:44

Mum has said I can sort myself out foodwise! Smile

B 2 bacon, 2 pork/leek sausages, mushrooms and 2 eggs

L salmon and salad

D steak with creamy mushroom sauce, celeriac chips and salad

BlackAffronted · 11/04/2013 10:49

I didnt realise having a BAB meant you were meant to miss lunch!!! Blush I was having it plus lunch & dinner. It stopped me snacking though.

sybilfaulty · 11/04/2013 11:09

It depends for me. Sometimes I am full til supper, other times not. I eat plenty though so no need to worry about fasting. The idea if 5:2 terrifies me.

BlackAffronted · 11/04/2013 11:20

Going to stick with my BAb and 2 other meals, I was losing weight steady that way. It was just birthdays that rocked me off course! My ds was 5 last Sat, and we had lots of cake to eat up. All gone now though!

BIWI · 11/04/2013 11:21

I don't think you are meant to miss lunch - that was the whole point of my post! I was concerned about the way some people seem to be using it to try and skip lunch.

OP posts:
MaryBeardfanclub · 11/04/2013 13:15

biwi well said. I have to say I have never missed lunch and do not intend to, BAB or not! I think the way black explained it, it's about stopping snacking between meals, not missing meals themselves. If you are not hungry then of course, postpone or cancel meals but I agree you always need to have plenty of available LCHF things to grab if you get hungry mid afternoon.

sybil my mum is doing 5:2 and thriving on it - lost a stone no bother. But it''s not for me. If you have had an eating disorder it is not advised. I have had bulimia, binge eating, extreme vegetarianism (orthorexia) and anorexia for 17 years (been ok for 10 years now) and it is difficult enough for me to maintain a healthy outlook on LCHF. Fasting would be a downward spiral I think.

Ive seen some of the other thread ladies on a thread about paleo/primal - what is the difference between those woe and lchf? They recommend the dietdoctor on that thread, I thought he was lchf.

black I was also wondering about your evil twin...

WillieWaggledagger · 11/04/2013 13:19

marybeard and sybil, i'm with you on 5:2 - i can see how well it works for other people but it is not for me. i have to hide the threads on here, because i see people talking about how clear-headed they feel on fast days and that feeling is like a drug to me
