So we start our final week!

Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

We will have one last weigh-in next Monday.

Hope you all have a good week!

Lavender - hope your ds feels much better today.

TheKitchenFairy - I work in an office type environment. Everyday I take in a salad. Well, it has spinach leaves, cucumber, extra virgin olive oil, mayo and either roasted chicken thigh/leg, cheese, ham, pate etc.

I also take in a little tub with Lidl yoghurt and milled flaxseed. Sometimes, if I anticipate a long day, I take in a Lidl pepperami.

Oh, Aldi do 500ml bottles of water. I take one in with me as I find the water cooler water too cold. I need to let it warm up. I know that at work I need to drink the 500ml bottle and 4 cups of water. I have a pint in the morning and a pint in the evening. I actually have morning but this way I know I'm getting the minimum 2.5 litres.

Custy - I found cutting down dairy helped when I stagnated. I have replaced the fat with coconut oil and duck/goose fat. So, in my scrambled eggs in the morning I put a big dollop in.

I have only lost 7-8 lbs in total but at 9st10 and 5ft6, every pound is a big deal.

timidviper · 15/03/2013 08:05

..... and don't eat the flowers!

timidviper · 15/03/2013 08:11

Dammit! My last post was to follow on Jake's with the low carb wine but Yama beat me to the post button! There's a failed attempt at humour to start the day!

Well I posted yesterday about me adding Benefibre to my morning tea and the subsequent "off" tummy and weight gain. Yesterday I left the fibre out and woke this morning feeling that my tummy had gone down a bit and, woohoo, so has my gained few lbs. Obviously too soon to tell if it is cause and effect or coincidence but interesting (and a relief!)

captainmummy · 15/03/2013 08:25

Kitchenfairy - don't panic about office lunches! Pack a chicken caesar salad (no cruotons), or ham salad, or chicken peices, or eggs (maybe a bit smelly) and take a bottle of mayo. Or a flask of soup. Or make some of the cream-cheese pancakes and use as wraps. Or cold sausages with lettece wraps. Olives. Cheese chunks.

Good luck with the new job.

Yama · 15/03/2013 08:37

Sorry Timidviper.

Actually, I need to ask you guys a question. I made a lovely beef stew yesterday, split it in two and popped them into oven for a few hours low heat. We ate one and I meant to put the other in the fridge. However, I have just found it still in the oven.

Is it still edible? Our kitchen is cold.

JakeBullet · 15/03/2013 08:43

I'd say it will be fine Yama....just cook it well.

Yama · 15/03/2013 08:49

Thanks Jake. Think what I'll do is have a couple of spoonfuls with my lunch and if I'm okay then we're go to go for dinner.

BIWI · 15/03/2013 08:55

Custy

breakfast = coffee

If you're ketogenically-adapted, which you must be after all this time, then missing breakfast isn't too much of an issue. In fact, you could say that you are 'on trend' because you are now intermittent fasting!

lunch = tuna salad - small can - no mayo or anything, added to simple leaves

This isn't enough food, and there is no fat - which is a real problem. Low fat/low carb doesn't work. You should have had a large can of tuna, and you should have mixed it with mayo. Did you have a dressing on your salad? If not, then also, not enough fat. You are essentially just eating protein, which will also cause your body to produce insulin/lay down fat - albeit much less than eating carbs would have done.

dinner= what i call 'no spag bol' this is a lower carb variation than i usually make
mince, 1 bell pepper green. 1 leek, 1 tin tomatos, chili powder, garlic powder.

Nothing wrong with this, but again doesn't sound like there was much fat. It's very hard to buy anything other than lean mince these days - and you don't say whether or not you fried in oil/fat to start with.

I fail to see why your DH is saying you are eating too much veg! In fact, it looks like you're not eating enough of anything. And if you've been exercising madly, then you will also be increasing muscle, which weighs more than fat

So I would say:

  • don't worry about breakfast
  • but eat more at lunch/dinner
  • really up the fat
  • make sure you're drinking the water

But above all - stop stressing about it. You know what to do and you are committed to LCing - you have plenty of strategies to keep you LCing that you have developed over the years.

And whatever you do, don't go down the low calorie route!

thekitchenfairy bar the lure of the office biscuit tin, I've found LCing at work pretty easy, just need to be organised! Breakfast is usually either some greek yogurt that I've decanted into a small pot to bring in with me, sometimes with a few blueberries, or I make scrambled eggs in the microwave. Ham and cheese slices easy too. Then lunch either a big lunchbox of salad with various bits - salami, olives, feta, smoked salmon, tuna, chicken, home made coleslaw - and I bring an oily dressing in a little jar that I add before I eat it, or home made soup which I can heat in the microwave. Babybel, pepperami, small bags of pork scratchings all good desk snacks! It needs a little bit of planning the night before, but is easy to do - much easier than finding lunch or breakfast out I think. And (which I should have said first I'm sure) CONGRATULATIONS on the new job!

JakeBullet · 15/03/2013 09:12

Just had a lamb leg steak for breakfast....yummy it was Smile

WillieWaggledagger · 15/03/2013 09:30

i love doing that sort of thing jake, it makes me feel like a (rather tame) rebel! moussaka for breakfast anyone??

i usually have tuna mayo or chicken mayo with salad at work, or leftovers from the night before. i avoid bringing in snacks because then i just tend to eat them! if i get hungry before standard lunch time (and that does happen because i leave for work at 6am so often eat breakfast at 5.45, which means i can easily be hungry naturally at 11am), i just get on and eat lunch early and then don't have anything until supper at home

i have a 1.5L plastic jug which i fill up when i get to work and i drink that in the morning and another jugfull in the afternoon, so i know i'm getting at least 3L in as i'll usually have a pint or so in the evening and possibly another pint in the morning before i leave for work (not always enough time)

WillieWaggledagger · 15/03/2013 09:30

i actually find it harder getting all my water in when i work from home, because i'm out of routine

JakeBullet · 15/03/2013 09:33

I must admit to giving up on water the other day after about 600 trips to the loo......just coukdnt keep up with it Grin . Been easier since.

IShallWearMidnight · 15/03/2013 10:02

DD2 needs to drink lots of water and eat lots of salt for a medical condition - she was told by her consultant that the salt helps with not having to rush to the loo every two minutes, helps the body use the fluid efficiently or something. I know salt is on the list of stuff we need to not be cutting out on this WOE, so that presumably is another reason why.

JakeBullet · 15/03/2013 10:07

Smile I needed more salt with it all then Grin

BlackAffronted · 15/03/2013 11:04

Making courgette & prawn pan thingy for lunch today, with a sour cream & dill sauce. Its based on this recipe but when I tried it before, the balls just fell apart so now I just fry like a tortilla.

prettybird · 15/03/2013 11:56

Yaaaay at the biggest percentage loss this week :)

I have been sooooo good for so longand I'm only one pound short of losing 2 stone since 7 March Shock and 4lb short of my unrealistic at the time target of breaking through the 11 stone barrier by my 52nd birthday on 6 April :)

Except I have just succumbed and eaten two large homemade chocolate chip cookies Blush

timidviper · 15/03/2013 11:59

That sounds lovely Black, I used to make prawn and sweetcorn fritters in my pre-lc days and they sound like a nice alternative. I made the IPD prawn bhajias and they fell apart in the oil, it was a vile greasy sludge.

BlackAffronted · 15/03/2013 12:04

prettybird, its my DS birthday on 6th APril 100 :) but he will only be 5 Grin Well done on such an amazing loss!

Timid, id had a look at those prawn bhajias, glad I didnt waste my nice prawns trying those out!

WillieWaggledagger · 15/03/2013 12:32

lol prettybird - it does rather seem to be the curse of the biggest losers that they have a bit of a wagon-topple later in the week! it's happened a few times

BlackAffronted · 15/03/2013 13:09

Mmm that courgette & prawn thing was delicious!

teaandthorazine · 15/03/2013 13:59

Feel like I'm back on the right track finally after many weeks of eating processed, sugary crap - phew!

Dinner last night was a very delicious spag bol without the spag - dp excelled himself! I think there was a fair amount of wine in it but it was yummy. I even declined the amazing-looking garlic bread he'd bought to go with it.

The bugger then decided to eat a cornetto and a bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes... his diet is a shocker.

I have unintentionally fasted today - have only just had first meal of the day (chicken, ham and olives, with a small lump of cheese) since finishing dinner last night. Feel really good, actually. Am on second bottle of water and also downing a peppermint tea.

So what's the plan for next week - just an ongoing chat thread? I can't stop now I've started!

BIWI · 15/03/2013 14:33

Oh yes - I will start a new thread, and we will just continue to chat on that one.

Also, for those of you worried about constipation, Dr Briffa (my hero [swoons]) has published two blogs recently about possible causes. timidviper's post reminded me about one of them, which is fibre. Again, this runs counter to everything we have been taught! The other one is dairy.

Have a read of this

If anyone is suffering, then Ubercamp is definitely worth considering, as it's 3 days' worth of low carb and dairy-free meals.
