I F - 5:2 - 4:3 - Maintaining the healthy weight

TalkinPeace2 · 01/02/2013 16:59

This thread is for those who have been doing IF for quite a while and are now at or nearing their target healthy weight.

How do we experience fasts and balance a stable food intake while having little or no weight to lose?

How to we ensure that this WOE does keep us at the healthy weight long term rather than revert to yoyo games?

I have now been at the same weight for a month. I'm happy with that. I'm also still enjoying the 24 hour fasts because of the clear mindedness I get during them.

How about you?

Yoga teacher tends to have lunch and supper when she is teaching mornings or breakfast and lunch when she is teaching evenings - and remember that if she skips supper one day and breakfast the next, that neatly makes a 24 hour fast

laska thank you you are do right!

Just posted this on other thread but want to put it here so everyone can see my repentance

Now you see if dh had been home I would never have risked eating marmalade from the jar in case he saw me. Bit worrying that I actually did that as he goes away an awful lot often for a week at a time. Having said that I've not done secret eating for a quite a while so I'm going to promise myself & all of you that I will not do that again. laska is so right about the community thing.

I still haven't found out how to insert links on an iPad, but some interesting reading if you google "Are You a Nutritarian?". It is very American biased and Fuhrman has books to sell but still some interesting nuggets of info in there and the links within the article.

Breadandwine · 02/03/2013 19:42

Interesting, BCL - I've stuck it on the other thread for you.

He makes a lot of sense.

catsrus · 02/03/2013 20:46

OK - inspired by laska's size 8's - I raided the local charity shop while dropping off some size 16s. I now have two pairs of skinny 10 jeans Grin they peel on and off fine and even fasten up, probably not too comfy if I tried to sit down though Smile. I did over indulge somewhat last night after a few Wine but definitely feel inspired by the size 10's to get rid of those last few lbs. Oh - and I also got a fab Laura Ashley size 12 dress - perfect for anything slightly dress-up.

Talkinpeace · 02/03/2013 21:39

Charity shops are FAB. I get almost all my clothes from them.

Hi there - hope you are all well. There are some really impressive shopping sprees going on!! I thought I would come out of lurk mode to share what I thought was an "oh wow" moment this morning.

I met with a friend who I hadn't seen for a while. She commented that I had lost a lot of weight (12kg of post-baby weight since November). We then started sharing what we had both been doing (me IF and her some sort of calorie control). I then mentioned that hard thing now was maintaining it, to which she agreed. And it hit me: we were actually talking about polar opposites. She meant it was hard to keep the weight off once her diet was finished. I meant that it was hard to maintain the intermittent fasts (for health reasons) without losing more weight :). It really summed up to me what this WoE is all about Grin.

catsrus · 02/03/2013 22:50

that's interesting fetree - my dd asked me tonight if my body would know when it reached the correct weight - i.e. would I naturally self-regulate? watch this space - I don't know. I hope so Grin.

The optimum is that we eat what we need and no more and that our bodies are the best weight they need to be for health. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this WOE achieved that?

BetsyVanBell · 03/03/2013 10:50

Just read an email preview that read "Jillian Michaels - Killer has been despatched" Proof that she is evil ;)

Laska42 · 03/03/2013 11:28

MWHAHAHA!!

Laska is starting on level 2 later on....

I've also ordered Jillian's Killer buns and 6 week six pack.. (I must be madShock) but I want to look ok in this that I have ordered also - but not from here Wink, it was cheaper elsewhere!

Talkinpeace · 03/03/2013 14:50

very flash
and yes, once you are not carrying the excess weight, its easier to exercise, which makes it easier to keep the weight off ....

Breadandwine · 03/03/2013 17:05

Remember, in the Horizon film, Dr M balancing on one leg? He could only manage about 5 seconds, whilst the other guy (a CRONIE?) did 30 seconds no bother.

Back in November, after IFing for several months I found I could balance on one foot for 28 seconds, and about a minute on the other.

I thought that it would be interesting to find out from everybody on here how long they could manage, and perhaps how old everyone is - I'm in my mid-seventies.

I've just tried again and managed 39 seconds on my left foot (bare feet - no shoes!) and stopped because I was about to bump into some furniture. Then I did 33 seconds on my right foot.

Bordercollielover · 03/03/2013 17:24

Which I think makes you officially younger on the inside than that CRONIE bloke!

Laska42 · 03/03/2013 17:24

B&W is this eyes shut or open? I can do well over a minute on both feet eyes open , (stopped because I got bored), with eyes shut no more than about 10 secs on each! I'm 55 Grin

Breadandwine · 03/03/2013 17:36

No, it's eyes shut, Laska

BCL Ha! I like it! But I think the CRONIE bloke could have carried on a lot longer!

Breadandwine · 03/03/2013 17:37

My money's on TiP to get the record for this! She's got form!

Laska42 · 03/03/2013 17:43

hmmm not too impressive for me then Sad.... ill have another go

Laska42 · 03/03/2013 17:50

OK I took my socks off... that helped .. 32secs left foot . only 18 on right.. this was on hall floor (wooden laminate) Hmm but better on right foot on carpet (but suspect thats cheating )Grin

B&W you are younger than me ..Smile

Talkinpeace · 03/03/2013 19:00

Whoops
busted
I did half a BodyBalance balance track (2 minutes 30 seconds - constantly changing posture) with my eyes shut.
I admit, I have amazing balance - not a brag, a fact - BUT its taken 20 years of ballet when I was young and ten years of yoga and bodybalance to get that way.
On the other hand, I am one end of the scale but newcomers get phenomenal improvements - the main thing is to go until you fall over several times a week

I now fall about once a month (am careful due to lack of knee cartilage) but it sets my limit

Breadandwine · 03/03/2013 19:11

That's still excellent Laska!

And you mustn't forget, I've been IFing for over a year, now.

I've been toying with the idea of doing a 12 month summary of where I am now compare to where I was, but it would just be a rehash of previous posts...

Talkinpeace · 03/03/2013 19:16

B&W - you are so right - the body awareness stuff is so useful
and it protects against falls and all sorts

BetsyVanBell · 03/03/2013 20:14

Umm, 20 seconds left foot, 30 seconds on right. I am 37 but I may have had a glass of beer...
