Question Thread for New Year Bootcampers

As there are so many of us doing this, the chat thread is moving pretty quickly - and it means that lots of questions are being missed.

So here is a specific thread you to post any questions you might have about Bootcamp or low carbing.

BIWI will reveal all on Monday... or you can just read it on the spreadsheet tabs!!!

MrsHoolie · 19/01/2013 22:44

Two questions....

On Bootcamp Light is it ok to skip breakfast if not hungry?i was up from 7am today and only felt slight hunger by midday! The only thing I'm craving first thing is water atm.

Also,I have the ketosix and I am in ketosis (it shows the lightest pink or one up). Does this mean you are losing weight/reducing fat cells?
Thanks.

BigStickBIWI · 19/01/2013 22:50

Bootcamp Light rules are on the spreadsheet - look at the tabs at the bottom

You can miss breakfast now, if you want to - and indeed, it fits with the principles of intermittent fasting. But - as ever - if you find that you are getting hungry, then you should eat. Don't let your blood sugar levels drop.

MrsHoolie - ditch the ketostix. Honestly! If you are following Bootcamp then you will be in ketosis, and therefore fat-burning mode. If you're drinking the amount of water that you should be, they will only be showing a very faint pink anyway. You are wasting your money.

Thanks BIWI.

I used to love POAS when pregnant....but I will give up the ketosix.

Good news about being able to skip breakfast if not hungry (or a late breakfast). I was struggling with forcing down another egg!

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 19/01/2013 23:28

Thanks BIWI - feeling much less queasy now and stomach also settled down a lot.

have had buttery eggs and spinach for breakfast, plus coffee with cream, at which point i felt pretty sick, then posted and since then taken it a bit lighter - chicken broth with kale for lunch, then celeriac and parmesan soup followed by sea bass and salad for supper. No snacks - just not that hungry.

Would have been quite happy just with the soup actually but DH wanted to cook something nice - did a luvverly basil sauce with the seabass - will put it in recipes when I get a mo.

Am I mad to want to stay on bootcamp for another week? An really loving how much energy I have and enjoying the freedom fof no t snacking etc

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/01/2013 07:50

hazchem not mad at all - I stay on it and only add the odd sugar free jelly or diet drink if out! Crazy here...

JustasmallGless · 20/01/2013 09:36

Waves to hazchem! How you doing down under?

Valdeeves · 20/01/2013 09:49

Quick question - is it ok to use Chinese five spice? Or what's the best way of cutting a stir fry taste? I've done the salmon marinade from the thread which was nice. Any other reccomendations?

MrsHerculePoirot · 20/01/2013 10:12

I am sure Chinese 5 spice is fine, some recipes use soy sauce but I am not so sure about the carb count and have none in my cupboard to check!

BigStickBIWI · 20/01/2013 10:20

Funny you should say that - I made a stir fry last night, and idly checked the label on the back of the jar - and was horrified to see that the first ingredient is sugar!!!

I had no idea.

The brand is Schwarz Perfect Shake. I'm sure genuine 5 spice powder doesn't have sugar in it, but will do some research.

Sorry! The Bart one we have doesn't have any sugar in, but I checked online ad the Schwartz one does.

MrsHoolie · 20/01/2013 12:23

I'm making braised cabbage at the mo (first time). Can I eat it tomorrow if there are leftovers and just microwave it or will that be weird as it has cream in it?

Ruprekt · 20/01/2013 12:30

Why dont you do half with cream to eat today. Save the other half for tomorrow and add the cream tomorrow.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/01/2013 12:33

So Bootcamp lite tomorrow eh?

prettybird · 20/01/2013 12:54

I did the braised cabbage last night. I can only presume they sell tiny heads of cabbage down south, as I was able to fit four of the eight pieces in my (large) frying pan. Hmm (The other 4 pirces got put into a bag and back into the fridge).

'Twas nice though, even though we were only have to eat less than half of it. To be fair, I was having it alongside a steak with garlic cheese and cream sauce and dh was having chips, onions and mushrooms! Shock

vinegar is fine. Just not balsamic.

BigStickBIWI · 20/01/2013 14:03

Malt is fine, as is wine vinegar. Rice vinegar has some carbs, and balsamic has loads.

Buttermilk? Yay or nay? I like to use it in coleslaw, and also for brining chicken.
