How do you cope with the hunger pains and cravings when dieting. The urge to pack it all in and stuff my face is unbearable lol i know it will be worth it in the long run but its hard to see past the doughnuts and burgers dancing round in my head

They get so much better and also easier to manage

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2012 19:42

Sorry that's the pangs. If you find a way to handle cravings do let me know.

stargirl1701 · 27/08/2012 19:45

Unhelpful but don't diet. It sends the wrong signals to your body that you are living in a time a famine starting a reaction to reduce your metabolism. Your body then tries to maintain fat levels so you crave food. It is better to always feel full by eating healthily. Unhelpful I know.

So far since the kids went to bed ive decided to go to bed keeping as far away from the kitchen as possible lol

Slimming world is the only diet where I haven't felt hungry plus managed to lose 2 stone... Might be worthwhile looking into?

Awh I know what you mean I'm a bit rubbish with new people but honestly you just go and speak to the instructor and then get all your books, get weighed and have a pep talk, you don't even need to speak to everyone else! I joined a few years ago but doing it myself now which you could do eventually once you get the hang of it :) honestly it's the best diet ever, I get to stuff my face with potatoes, chips done in fry light, rice, pasta, beans, egg, bacon, all meats.... It's great!

I find hunger pangs easier than cravings. Have just given up sugar completely (again) as I was sliding down the slippery slope of wanting something sweet all the time.

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2012 20:46

Stargirl the starvation theory is not proven and even if true applies to only some people not all.

StealthPolarBear · 27/08/2012 20:46

Yes, hunger pangs easier than cravings

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 27/08/2012 20:48

drink plenty of water and choose a sensible weightloss programme and stick to it. Just deciding to diet and starve won;t be helpful. I have tried SW, WW and low fat diets but feel very happy and contented (and slimmer) following a lower carb way of eating :)

May be try some veg/fruit/unsweetened yogurt/unsalted nuts like pistachios or almonds - little amount as they are high in calories. Pistachios are highly recommended for snacking or adding to the diet. I'm not a doctor, I'm just using the net to find out about good snacks as I can't stick to 3 meals a day.

StealthPolarBear · 29/08/2012 06:10

Is there a benefit to the nuts being unsalted btw?

Op, fancy joining our http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/big_slim_whatever_weight_loss_club/1539152-Motivational-Monday-Lets-keep-positive-and-get-those-lbs-off support thread
Actually there have been a couple of suggestions to deal with cravings - delaying, so tell yourself you'll have whatever it is in an hour. And substitution - pickled onions to satisfy savoury craving, options hot choc for sweet.
