Got to shift a few kilos, anyone want to join me?

Over the past few years I've slowly gained a few more kilos than I'd like to have. I've made a very poor attempt in the past to lose it but it's not happening. I'm hoping that if I do a weigh-in each week here publicly then I may be a little more motivated.

I know what I need to do. I have to stop snacking and reduce my portion sizes, I already eat healthily but tend to have seconds or dish a larger serving than I should. I also need to exercise more but it will be gentle exercise due to health reasons.

Today I weigh 60kg, I want to get back to 55kg which is where I felt most comfortable a few years ago so that's 5kg I need to work on losing and I need to keep it off after I've lost it. I'm going to do a daily update on what exercise I've done and a weekly update on my weight. If anyone wants to join me please do, it would be nice to have someone online to work alongside :)

Hi. Can I join you please. I would like to lose 8kg to go from 70kg to 62kg.
I have started low carbing and increasing my aerobic exercise from 3 to 4 times a week and adding weights. I like to weigh myself on alternate days and to have Saturdays off (but will be really focussed other days).

ppeatfruit · 20/07/2012 10:21

Just a few words of advice and help if you're interested. I've lost 10 kilos on Paul Mckenna (i do also follow my blood type WOE and the hay diet) I admit that a few kilos have crept on and I'm kick starting the loss with taking nettle supplements (they work very well but you need to be near a loo!)

When i used to drink a proper ground coffee a day I lost 4 kilos just giving that up with NO extra exercise!! Weirdly when I have one now every week and a half or so it works like the nettle does!

norahjonesisnotmyname · 20/07/2012 11:57

ConstantlyCooking, yes please do join me :)

ppeatfruit, interesting about the coffee. I do drink a fair bit of coffee but always instant. I need to cut back on coffee as it's not very good for me.

So today my exercise has been a 1.5 hour walk (moderate speed) with my dog. I'm going to try and keep moving rather than sitting so plan on doing some housework after I've had a cup of tea.

ppeatfruit · 20/07/2012 12:36

Yes the moving is important I've noticed this as I get older! The problem is sitting at the computer which i do more when i'm in fr. (we live between Engl. and Fr.) and the weight creeps onSmile.

friendly7 · 20/07/2012 12:54

Please could I join too? I need to loose 7 kg and not gain any back. Previously lost 10 but slowly gained 11. I was eating healthy food, drinking water with my meals and was doing aerobics, also did no carbs after 6. As soon as I've stopped aerobics and went back to carbs and also started to have ice-cream/cake/crisps from time to time all came back so I would like to find something I can stick to this time.
I dance to disco music and do light work out.

ppeatfruit · 20/07/2012 13:03

Aren't you on P.Mckenna too like me friendly? I was just going to recommend him to you! It's as soon as I forget to eat 'only when hungry' that I put on weight!

friendly7 · 20/07/2012 17:59

Yes, I am. Hope it's okay to be on different threads :)

norahjonesisnotmyname · 20/07/2012 18:34

Hi friendly, welcome to the thread :) I'm sure it's okay to be on more than one thread, I've also joined in another one.

This afternoon I kept moving doing some housework and managed to walk the school run to DD's school as DS finished early so had time to drive home and then walk over to her school (usually I drive both).

Making lasagne for dinner tonight, going to have to be extra careful about not dishing too much as I LOVE lasagne! Will be having a smaller portion and adding a large salad. Have been good all day not snacking but did have a small glass of wine this evening whilst I prepared the dinner.

Thank you very much for your warm welcome norahjonesisnotmyname.
I had a little dance session-dancing to disco music, will try more tonight.
Food:
hot water with lemon which I call my special lemon tea
Later: medium portion of salad with fresh apple and raspberry juice
Lunch: baked potato with cheese and black tea with honey and lemon with apricots
Snacks: apricots
Dinner: large salad with beetroot, salad leaves, one egg and fish in breadcrumbs with green beans and coffee with honey and semi-skimmed milk
Every day I need to take care not to have biscuits, cake, sugar with my coffee/tea etc. I easily put on weight. I was passing coffee shop today and saw a very slim woman drinking latte. I thought, that's what made me pile up weight as not only would I have late but it would be with syrup and some biscuits/muffing... Anyway, today was a good day.
Happy weekend!!!

norahjonesisnotmyname · 21/07/2012 08:27

friendly, that's a good start and well done for keeping off the biscuits yesterday :) I'm lucky in that I don't like sweet things all that much but I do love savoury snacks and hubby is awful about buying those large multi-packs of crisps, I could munch my way through more than one bag a day given the chance. I've given strict instructions to him not to buy any, I have some plain almonds and pecan nuts which I can snack on instead.

Last night I was very good and only had a small portion of lasagne with my salad. I also had a large glass of water with a slice of lime (no lemons in the house) and some ice. Kept busy after dinner and didn't feel the need to snack or eat any more.

Today is going to be a challenge! It's my daughter's birthday, she has asked for waffles with fresh fruit, maple syrup and ice cream for breakfast. I'm going to have some plain yoghurt sweetened with a little maple syrup and the fruit. Lunch we'll be going out so will try to stick with water and a low carb option like steak and salad and no pudding as we'll be having cake later on (I'll have half the size slice to what I usually have which isn't usually very big anyway). We're also going swimming so I can get some exercise from that. Haven't planned what to do for evening meal yet but it will need to be a light meal so maybe a tuna salad.

Have a good weekend :)

Thank you norahjonesisnotmyname. I know, it is not possible to cut out all the temptations so all we can do is try our best. Have a great time. I've found out about myself that it's easier for me not to have a biscuit than to have 2 or 3 as I tend to have 5 or 6 with my tea or coffee. So I try to have a cut up fruit with my tea and even with coffee LOL. I just need something to have with my hot drinks unless it's a herbal tea which I don't like much but have as I know it's good for me, or water with lemon/lime. I also can see the benefit of having hot water with lemon so I boil the kettle, pour water in and in a minute or 2 add some lemon juice from fresh lemon. I find it a nice start of the day. Can't have it though when it is too hot. Have a nice Saturday x

ppeatfruit · 21/07/2012 09:29

Have a good birthday day with yr DDnorahjones friendly i'm sure it's fine to be on more than one thread; I follow more than one WOE which is against P.M. rules but I'm one of the few on it that is ALMOST keeping off the weight I gained!!

But I have followed a healthy eating diet (coincidentally low cal I never have actually counted the darn things!) for years so I'm not changing for anyone even Paul Mckenna Grin

Breakfast; Smoothie with peaches, rasps. ground almonds, and ground linseeds, and pumpkin seeds a little fructose and lemon juice.

Lunch; 2 slices spelt/rye toast with no salt marmite and pnut butter,
cucumber and slices of red onion. piece of 70% dark chocolate

snack; finish smoothie.

supper; quinoa with chopped onion, herbs, avocadoe.

ConstantlyCooking · 23/07/2012 09:29

The weekend started well but yesterday we had friends round for a barbecue. That was OK (except potato salad) as I skipped dessert and am low carbing., but they bought chocolates......
However, I am now in my gym kit and ready to burn off some of the excesses.
Still 70kg so aim to be lighter by next week.

ppeatfruit · 23/07/2012 10:59

Grin at the chocs. Constantly With the eating slowly and consciously on Paul Mckenna you actually taste the chox. and and if they're cheap I find I CAN'T eat them. BTW with my horribly healthy diet I always drink filtered water and sometimes have mint\green tea before eating (in case the hunger pangs are thirst). Also camomile tea at bedtime i nevertry not eat after 7ish p.m..

ConstantlyCooking · 23/07/2012 12:13

DH lost weight with Paul McKenna but I lost the cd Blush. I find low carb is a good way for me to start as my sweet tooth vanishes after a week. Later I can introduce good quality choc i hope.
Well I have been to the gym and then had poached salmon and salad (no dressing) for lunch.

ppeatfruit · 23/07/2012 15:00

You can get the C.D.s, DVDs and book etc. on Amazon cheaply.I combine P.M. with lowish carbs and lost 3 stone, it works well . Good for yr. DH I wish mine took it on board completely (he has loads to loose)!

norahjonesisnotmyname · 23/07/2012 16:07

The weekend went well for me, I did have a small piece of cake on Saturday but apart from that kept to a healthy diet and ate smaller portions. I skipped a dessert after our meal out to compensate for the cake I was planning to have. Sunday morning DH and I had an early morning walk with our dog for a little over an hour. Today I've spent 2 hours cleaning the house and did a small amount of gardening as the weather is so beautiful.

I have joined up to My Fitness Pal which I'm finding very useful to keep track of my meals and exercise, if anyone would like to add me as a friend my username there is the same as here. Planning to do a weigh-in on Thursday.

norahjonesisnotmyname · 24/07/2012 08:00

I weighed myself this morning, couldn't wait until Thursday as I'm feeling thinner around my tummy. I've lost 2.9kg in less than a week!! But I know a lot of that will be excess water and result of changing my diet. In the past it's always come off quick the first few weeks and then the weight loss grinds to a stand still so my challenge is to keep it going downwards and once at goal to keep it off. I've got to try and stay motivated and not give up once the weight loss slows down, that's going to be the hard part.

Have a lovely day everyone, the sun is shining and I'm off to walk the dog after I've finished my coffee. Hopefully I can get my daughter out of bed to come with me, she wants to take her bike which is good as it will keep the pace up meaning I have to walk more quickly to keep up :)

OP posts:
friendly7 · 24/07/2012 09:08

Fantastic news!!! So happy for you! Good luck with the continuing and good luck to all of us :)

ConstantlyCooking · 24/07/2012 11:11

Well done! It nice to have a little boost to keep you going in the early days (as opposed to thinking you will start "tomorrow").

norahjonesisnotmyname · 24/07/2012 19:18

So today I walked my dog for a little over one hour and in the afternoon I did another half hour walk with my daughter and her friend.

Still being good and not snacking between meals, only having a tea or coffee between meals and plenty of water. Without snacking between meals I'm finding that I have no problem getting through the day but by dinner time I'm hungry and ready to eat early rather than later. In the past we'd often eat at 8pm in the summer months but now I'm getting dinner ready by between 6pm and 6.30pm. I guess the stretch from lunch at 12.30pm to the evening meal is quite a long one.

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 25/07/2012 09:26

Remember norah that coffee holds onto weight; better to just drink water and or green\mint tea. You could have fruit and (unsalted)! nuts for a snack when hungry in the afternoon.
