In countries where people eat significant amounts of rice, root veg and bread they also tend to work very very physically hard just to perform the daily tasks we take for granted.

I am on slimming world and it works. Done properly it is not a diet, it is a healthy eating plan for life. I've lost 30lbs in just over three months. I want to lose another 25lbs to get me to my lowest weight since I was 20. I'm never hungry and eat lots of lean protein, vegetables, fruit etc and snack on olives, humus and things like that.

Carbs are the problem. They make you hungry and they make you fat.

"Eat less and move more" is wrong. Worse, it makes it all about blame. It's your fault that you've put weight on. There's something wrong with you - whereas actually it's your food that is doing that to you.

Come and join my low carb Bootcamp!

There are around 70-80 of us doing it, and between us we have lost around 40 stone in less than 5 weeks! (Collectively that is ... Grin)

I have just joined one called Noom its a free app on Andriod. I started yesterday and it has given me a set of easy challenges to fit into my day. I will et you know how I progress with it.

I am anti social and hate diets - especially anything where you have to cut out large amounts of normal foods.

I do my fitness pal + exercise (walk everywhere plus exercise dvd 4 times a week - averages about 2 hours a day).

I try to make sure my plate is always 1/2 veg, just over 1/4 protein and just under 1/4 carbs. I check a portion size against the packet and just have that. I snack on fruit (whatever the greengrocer has on offer - at the mo its mostly melon and kiwi) and 1 portion (20g) of nuts a day. Oil I measure with a teaspoon and make sure I only have a scraping of spread. I make sure I have protein at breakfast and that I eat 3 meals plus one snack a day.

Everything except bread products at the moment is homemade pretty much as I like cooking.

Nothing is banned but things like chocolate, crisps, icecream I have maybe twice a week and it is a measured portion so not too much.

I have been doing this since january but have done it gradually. Gradually decreasing portion sizes and swopping to healthier options and increasing exercise. I have lost just over 2 stone so far and 6 inches around my waist in the last month.

TBH its been pretty easy - I am full of energy, very bouncy and feeling good Grin

I still have a hell of a lot more than that to go though (won't say how much).

I think you just need to work out your worst eating habit and tackle that first. For me it was that I am a snacker and would constantly eat between meals. 3 weeks ago I decided I would no longer snack and would instead eat 3 meals a day (used to skip breakfast and eat a bag of crisps at 10ish), I now have 3 normal meals (smaller portions) and I buy 1 graze box a week and that is my entire weeks worth of snacks. I've lost 11lb in 3 weeks and have not added in any exercise yet.
