Hello,

I need help to get motivated again to loose some lard!

I lost 1.5 stones last year using MFP and walking. Was feeling great, dropped to a small size 14 and was heading nicely to my target weight. Then Christmas came and I fell off the wagon spectacularly.

Every week since then I've started being good one day then it's all fallen apart. I need motivation and a kick up the (ever expanding) arse.

So I've restarted with MFP today and tomorrow I'm digging out the dreaded Shred DVD. Please yell at me to make sure I do it. Also anyone out there willing to be my diet buddy?

OP posts:
libertychick · 12/04/2012 23:51

Will be your diet buddy. I really need to shift about a stone and finding it really hard to get motivated. Planning to start jogging 3 times a week and just cut out the rubbish especially chocolate and especially the totally unnecessary kitkat mid afternoon!

What's MFP???

glenthebattleostrich · 13/04/2012 06:57

Brilliant hello

It's My Fitness Pal, an online food tracking site.

The plan for today is to clean the house and take a nice long walk. And find the shred of course.

I'll let you know how successful i am

OP posts:
libertychick · 13/04/2012 13:28

Oh I'll have a look at that. My work are supposed to be setting me up on Fitbug which sounds similiar.

Brought a couscous salad to work for lunch but at my desk now craving something more. Seeing your message has inspired me to decide to skip going to the canteen (the source of the kitkats!) and have a cuppa at my desk with an apple instead!

Enjoy your long walk - its a nice day for it where I am.

glenthebattleostrich · 13/04/2012 17:35

Did a nice long walk (1.5 hours) and tried to do the shred but DD put a stop to that after 5 minutes. Got caught in hail storm on the walk so had to stop off at soft play, DD loved it and I managed to resist biscuits. Feeling very pleased with myself (if rather hungry!)

You've done really well today. I love couscous, must remember to add it to my shopping this week. Roast salmon with cucumber and sweetcorn salad tonight for tea and I even have enough cals left to treat myself to half a bag of minstrels :)

OP posts:
libertychick · 13/04/2012 22:37

Well done on the walk. Hour and a half is impressive. I had pork stirfry w rice for tea and half a twirl just now though. Will start counting Cal's or points tomorrow so I can factor in some guilt free treats. And tomorrow must get moving!

glenthebattleostrich · 14/04/2012 09:54

I only walk so I can have treats! The weekend will be a struggle, it's not too bad through the week as I'm busy with work or with my DD but at weekends DH is home and he likes to snack.

Must do the shred today. I have a wedding to go to in 6 weeks and really want to loose weight for that.

OP posts:
libertychick · 14/04/2012 14:27

I got the Shred DVD after reading about it on here last summer - only did it once as it really hurt my knees and left me feeling ancient! have you done it before - is it worth the pain?
I walked about one hour with the buggy today so that was good and so far today no rubbish. My DH is a bad influence on me too - he tends to snack while watching TV in the evening and it v hard to resist pinching a handful or two of crisps.
Having a glass of wine now while DD has afternoon nap - bliss!

glenthebattleostrich · 14/04/2012 15:18

Lucky you! Mine is running around whinging because she didn't have a long enough nap.

I hated doing the shred for the first 3 times but then really got into it. The pain is really worth while, it's my go to for fast toning of my waist.

Managed to survive a trip to Costco today with almost no snacking and had a lovely chicken salad for lunch instead of pizza or a hotdog.

It's raining here so can't really get out for a walk today.

Enjoy your wine :)

OP posts:
libertychick · 14/04/2012 16:31

Hmmm I have finished wine and sitting here feeling guilty as DD is still asleep and I should really go get her up or the evening will be hell....

Have never been to costco - one of my friends joined recently and now her house is full of loo roll and cleaning products so can't let DH go as he is even worse at resisting a 'bargain'.

Have done well on food - banana and toast for breakie, poached eggs and toast for lunch and 3 M&S wheaten crackers (20 cals each) with the wine. DH in charge of dinner so not sure what awaits me but he tends to do healthy meals so should be ok. Will have an apple now to keep sugar level from crashing....

Lovely here (furthest reaches of non trendy west London) so might get DD out to the park to wear her out a bit after mega sleep. What age is your DD? Mine is 15mths.

glenthebattleostrich · 14/04/2012 18:41

Hope your evening is not too bad, I know if my DD sleeps too late shes a nightmare to get down. She's 23 months now, can't beleive she's 2 in a month and the baby kitkat weight is still here!

We're in the wilds of Yorkshire, although I'm a Geordie on tour really. If it's sunny tomorrow I might take her for a run around the sculpture park.

You've done really well on the food front today, love banana on toast. Haven't had it for ages so think I may have to try that tomorrow. I had cherios with banana and plum for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch and have just had a really yummy salmon pasta bake with mozzerella. Now I just need to resist the Easter chocolate. DH bought me a Hotel Chocolat egg which has loads of chocolate and ordered an extra box of chocs for us to share. Very sweet of him but I need to fit in my jeans!

Hope you enjoyed your wine and have a lovely evening x

OP posts:
libertychick · 15/04/2012 15:21

Hello, DD went down well yesterday evening - run in the park definitely helped and lots of playing in the bath.

Wilds of Yorkshire sounds lovely, I am a west of Ireland lass so I do miss having lots of space around me. My brother went to uni in Newcastle and I went there for a few rag weeks and had a ball! Are you one of those girls who can manage without a coat? :o

You sound like you did really well with food yesterday too and it's good to get other ideas about what to cook. DH is SAHD so does most of the cooking and tends to stick to meat/fish and 2 veg with the occasional stir fry so I think I will have to mention salmon pasta bake with mozzerella to him and inspire him or else try and make time for some cooking myself - other working mothers do it...

I am in awe that your Hotal Chocolat egg is still there - no way would it survive that long in this house!

Today, banana, peach, couple of tablespoons of museli for breakfast w 0% fat greek yogurt, 6 inch subway sandwich for lunch. We tend to just graze for tea on a Sunday so planning on brown bread sandwich with smoked salmon and lots of tomato and lettuce - there's a three pack of walnut whips here too so reckon I'll have one and encourage DH to eat the other two - walked for an hour with the buggy today and ran around the playground so hopefully that covers the 145 cals it contains.

Hope you are having a relaxing Sunday - this daily check in is really helping me stay on track.

glenthebattleostrich · 15/04/2012 17:16

I know what you mean about the daily check. Feel bad if I cheat!

We've been busy cleaning today, getting a new bed delivered hopefully next week so had to clear out the bedroom. It was a mess. I work from home as a childminder and DH wouldn't know cleaning if it came up and bit him on the bottom! I have to say, the slatterns have a new queen looking at the mess it was, all clean now though Grin. I'm very jealous that your husband knows where the kitchen is!

Did you not know it is actually illegal to wear a coat in Newcastle?!!! I did spend far to much of my mispent youth on the quayside in what I now suspect was a hanky and a belt Blush.

You've done really well today. I've had granola, a banana and strawberries for breakfast, tomatoes on toast for lunch and am having an omlette and salad for tea. Think I may treat myself to some chocolate later too after working my way through the ironing pile.

I'm doing my planning for the next week and am including loads of active things (park, den building and action songs) so hopefully will be too busy to cheat. The big challenge will be going to soft play and avoiding their fab cupcakes.

OP posts:
glenthebattleostrich · 16/04/2012 07:55

Morning,

How are you today?

Had a really rough night with DD (got a whole 4 hours sleep) so not feeling great this morning, normally that would mean chocolate for breakfast and bad snacking all day but today I've started as I mean to go on. Big bowl of porridge for breakfast with a 1.5 plums (got mugged for the other half, guess the toddler has her uses!) and a couple of mugs of tea. Tuna salad wrap planned for lunch or if I'm late back some oxtail soup.

And I'm continuing my cleaning mission, I will no longer be queen of the slatterns!

Have a fab and healthy day

OP posts:
libertychick · 16/04/2012 22:43

Hello, apologies for late check in - had a horrible day at work and really crashed when I got in. Poor you with the lack of sleep last night and well done on the chocolate breakfast resistance - I used to think chocolate for breakfast was crazy until I had a child and had it for breakfast daily for the first three months.

Hmmm cleaning - big bone of contention with my DH - I do the kitchen daily, my own laundry, ironing when I absolutely have to and not much else. He does the rest with a cleaner in every two weeks to take the edge off. He reckons I take him completely for granted and it's probably true Blush How did your cleaning mission go?

So today - muesli and yogurt for breakfast, a costa flat white, apple, couscous salad, DH's mince with veggies and baby potatoes for dinner (he made a massive pot of the stuff so will be eating it for next 2 nights at least Smile). I didn't have the walnut whip last night but had it tonight instead - excuse is the arrival of my period. I also walked rather than taking the bus for the first 20 mins of my journey to work so some exercise in the day.

Here's to a good nights sleep and another successful day tomorrow...

glenthebattleostrich · 17/04/2012 09:31

That's ok. I hope today is better.

Your DH should try coming and living with my DH for a week. He actually got confused as to which cupboard I keep the washing machine in. It's taken me 3 years to get him to move his bowl from the table to the bench beside the dishwasher. He does almost nothing because he goes out to work sod the fact I work from home, am doing an NVQ, chair the residents committee and run a toddler group Sorry, rant over!

My cleaning mission did go well, my house no longer looks like a toy / laundry / bloke mess bomb exploded. And I'm no longer embaressed to invite people over, pretty lucky as I'm also hosting coffee later this week!

Well yesterday I did porridge for breakfast, soup and bagel for lunch and gammon with vegetables for tea. Snacked mostly on fruit and treated myself to some liquorish too. Still stayed within my calorie allowance for yesterday so quite pleased with myself.

I've had my porridge and fruit again for breakfast, am having salad or soup for lunch and this afternoon I'm making a big pan of butternut squash soup for the rest of the week. Might make some bread too if I feel like it.

Think it's fish and veg for tea and then the ironing pile tonight. Taking the littlies to soft play this morning so that will involve cake probably, just need to ballance it!

Have a great day :)

libertychick · 17/04/2012 21:40

Hello, today was a bit better at work, my boss is back from leave so that helped.

Wow you sound busy! That's a lot of commitments to juggle. I used to help out with local brownies but evenings are only time I get with DD so had to stop. Well done on all the cleaning - lots of calories burned there too. Don't worry about the rant - I think the battle over who does what in the home happens for everyone.

Today I had 2 scotch pancakes and banana for breakfast, smoked salmon sandwich for lunch, fruit during the day and more mince, veg and baby potatoes for tea. Just had a 'finger of fudge' as a treat - love kiddie treats! I am feeling better for cutting out the excess sugar and junk. Homemade bread sounds wonderful - what type of bread do you make?

Hope your day went well - tomorrow I have to go to a late meeting so I might not get to log on but I will definitely check in on Thursday.

glenthebattleostrich · 18/04/2012 09:12

I think I take too much on sometimes and end up just snacking on junk food instead of making proper meals. Also, I like to release my inner busybody so I don't turn into one of these weirdo's who watch their neighbours every move yes mother I'm talking to you

You did really well yesterday, I love fudge. It reminds me of coming home from school when I was little and my mum always used to have one for us, or a sherbet dipdab (mmmmm).

I have a kitchen drawer full of different seeds and oats and things to bake with so depends on my mood. My favorite at the minute is a mix of wholemeal, white and seeds. It's yummy :)

Really bad day yesterday :( Went out for lunch and had a huge panini and some chocolate shortbread and then had chocolate in the evening.

I will get back on track today though.

The plan is granola and yoghurt for breakfast and a banana, chicken salad for lunch and cod with veg for tea. This will happen today. I've also done a quick clean and when my mindee arrives in a couple of minutes we'll be doing dancing and action songs and then taking a long walk to soft play (we go via animals so the children love it).

If the little monsters nap I'll bob and get weighed, if not I'll do it tomorrow. Hopefully that'll motivate me for the next week.

Tonight I'll be clearing space in the cupboard so I can hide my Easter egg and the rediculous amount of chocolate DD got for Easter and put nice healthy snacks in their place. I get grumpy if I don't eat every 2.5 - 3 hours and no-one wants a grumpy childminder!

OP posts:
libertychick · 18/04/2012 22:04

Hello glen - did you get back on track today? Eating out is hard. My work place is in a fairly grim part of London with no nice cafes or restaurants and I think the only positive about the location is the lack of tempting lunch choices! There are just fried chicken shops and Indian sweet shops.

Today was good food wise - had muesli and yogurt for breakfast, couscous salad for lunch, lots of fruit, 1 mini quiche at the late meeting (managed to resist samosas, sausage rolls, pastries and biscuits) and then poached egg on toast when I got home. Just had 7 malteasers as a treat and gave DH the rest of the bag.

Because of late meeting I missed DD's bedtime which I hate doing. Also I got no exercise beyond the walk to and from the tube...I really need to try and grab 20 mins during the day at work for a fast walk around the block as I know from before that exercise really helps with the weight loss

Also planning to weigh myself tomorrow - I am one of those wierdos who only ever weighs herself first thing in the morning, naked after going to the loo!!! sad or what!

glenthebattleostrich · 19/04/2012 16:47

You did so well, very impressed with avoiding the yummy food!

Well yesterday was also really bad, today has been better though.

Had granola and yogurt for breakfast, sandwich and popcorn for lunch and am having pork steak with veg for tea (I think).

Not working today so had a long walk around the shops, bought a fab pair of nude heels. Got a hen night, 40th birthday party and a wedding in the next 5 weeks so they'll get lots of wear.

Very proud that I managed to skip M&S Food Hall, and they are doing 2 dine for £10 this weekend.

Taking our bed down tonight and moving a very heavy wood frame downstairs so that will burn lots of calories hopefully!

Didn't weigh myself today, the queue in Boots was huge, I'll definately do it by Saturday thougth. I'd love to be able to weigh in naked but I don't own any scales and I think if I tried it they would have me arrested!!

OP posts:
libertychick · 19/04/2012 23:02

Well done on a good day today. I used to weigh in at boots too - love the fat calculator element! I am sure they used to laugh at me there as while I didn't go naked (for similiar reasons of potential arrest!) I used to strip down to as little as possible in a public place before getting on Grin We have a good digital scales so did the naked weigh this morning and have lost 1.1kgs which is just over 2lbs I think so v pleased with that.

Nude heels are a great buy - got a lovely pair of nude wedges in Monsoon about 3 years ago and are the most adaptable shoes ever. Where did you get yours?

M&S food hall is lethal isn't it? Today I had museli and yogurt, banana mid morning, v healthy veggie chilli and rice for lunch followed by v unhealthy 2 chocolate digestives. Breast of chicken wrapped in bacon for dinner with sweetcorn, green beans, spinach and 2 baby potatoes. 5 malteasers! Not a great day but not too bad either.

Hope the bed move went ok! Friday tomorrow - Yipee!!!

libertychick · 20/04/2012 21:04

So today, not so great. Had a team meeting this morning so there was quite a lot of cake involved. Restricted lunch to an apple and low fat yogurt to try and make up for it, then grilled chicken, salad and baby potatoes for tea. Just had an orange now to try and stay off the chocolate.
For the weekend going to do long walks both days and catch up on ironing and cooking. Going to do a batch of pasta sauces for DD, one tomato based and the other cheesy sauce. And going to go to bed early each night - am exhausted at the moment.
Hope today went well for you.

glenthebattleostrich · 20/04/2012 21:55

Quite a bad day too. Ok breakfast and lunch, but can't seem to stop munching on an evening.

Planning to do lots of cooking this weekend too. Need to do some batches to put in the freezer so when we've had a busy day we can just throw something in the microwave.

Not lost anything this week but also didn't put anything on either so not as bad as it could have been. It looks like it's going to rain here all weekend so don't hold out much hope for getting out for walks. I am going to get some exercise though, even if it means locking DD in a room with DH so I get the peace to do it!!

When I did the Sainsbury shop I managed to not buy any junk food and got lots of fruit and veggies. An no wine :(

OP posts:
glenthebattleostrich · 21/04/2012 20:11

Bit better day today. Managed to get a good walk in and did lots of chasing with DD and putting up the bed.

Going to have a lovely shower and put on some nice fresh pj's in preparation for snuggling down :)

I've also been practicing walking and dancing in my new shoes (from M&S by the way, the Autograph ones (www.marksandspencer.com/Autograph-Coated-Leather-Platform-Insolia%C2%AE/dp/B003J5L750?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_2&nodeId=210703031&sr=1-2&qid=1335035137&pf_rd_r=0P5SWM5HE13J4WH6S4JB&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=210703031&pf_rd_p=215570647&pf_rd_s=related-items-3#)). DD loves to put on rock music and dance (nothing like a bit of Metal to get a baby moving!!) The shoes look so pretty, Before DD I was a shoe addict. I still have something like 25 pairs which I rarely wear anymore so ebaying some and then practicing walking in heels so I can wear the rest.

Tomorrow we are moving furniture in DD's room. She has been in a cotbed but she is so tall we don't think she is comfortable in it (she's in 3 - 4 clothes at 23 months). Also putting up some new curtain rails and hanging some curtains and got a huge pile of ironing to do. Hopefully it won't rain so we can get a nice wander around Yorkshire Sculpture Park, it's lovely there and DD loves looking at the sculptures.

Hope you are having a good weekend

OP posts:
libertychick · 21/04/2012 21:07

Yes evening munching is a problem for me too. Today I just grazed all day mostly toast, fruit and mints. Dinner was small steak with salad and baby potatoes. Gu pudding for afters though - but did walk for well over an hour and chased DD around the park.

Your DD is tall to be in 3-4 yr clothes already. I cannot imagine my DD ever managing a bed - she just spends the night doing circuits in her cot bed.

We moved stuff around today too - have decided to emigrate to Australia - decision made last week! So we had estate agents around for the last couple of days to get the house valued etc and we dismantled one of the beds as we have decided to start getting rid of stuff we won't take with us so the local RSPCA shop will be coming around during the week for the bed, some shelving units and a chest of drawers we don't need. It feels a bit weird - we have talked about it for ages and it's exciting to have made a decision but also quite scary. It's also another good reason to lose weight! I was in Oz about ten years ago travelling around and was overweight then and it's horrible being out of shape in the heat.

Have a lovely weekend.

glenthebattleostrich · 21/04/2012 21:19

Wow, what part of Oz you moving to? We have a cousin in the Australian Army (joined after doing his 22 years in the British Army). He lives in Darwin. The whole family love it and are going brilliantly. Their kids adore the lifestyle. If you feel yourself reaching for the chocolate thinking about the move will be great motivation.

I love having a good clear out. Doing a toy and clothes sale next weekend so getting rid of loads of stuff. DD grows so fast (DH's family breed them big!) it costs a bloody fortune in clothes.
