The previous thread was getting a bit full so I thought I should start a new one while we could still link between them.

Morning all. Official WI day for me and i can report a 2.5lb loss.
I second the idea of reading a book. It was only when i understood the science bit that i could fully get how the woe works. It really does make sense once you know why and how it works with your body. I am now an advocate of this woe ad i find it so easy and feel so good.

Off to the gym again shortly but will remember to drink lots of water to prevent my muscles retaining fluid

PostBellumBugsy · 04/04/2012 09:30

Creamtea, that is a fantastic book. I have it. It is a much easier to read version of his Diet Dellusion book, which was very big & a bit scientifically scary.
Most of the book is an explanation about how we've got to where we are - with more people being fatter than ever before (basically because they are chowing down way too much refined carbohydrate & sugar). Atthe back of the book he gives a brief outline on how to eat low carb and lists the foods you should eat to be low carb. Don't expect any great revelations on the food front - it pretty much lists: meat, eggs, fats, fish & non-carby veg!

PostBellumBugsy · 04/04/2012 09:32

oh & I'm another 1lb down this week! Thought it might be 2lb, but seems to have stabilised at just 1lb. So 8lbs to go to goal weight now!
Great news on your loss too vnmum.

Yoghurty · 04/04/2012 10:23

Thanks for the welcomes yesterday, I'm trying do this seriously again but not think too much about about it, iyswim?
I know some people find it hard initially, but this is the part I find easy- I can always find something to eat and am now used to ordering if I'm eating out to make sure that I avoid the sneaky carb-laden things.
Feeling very bright and positive this morning and have my meals all planned out.
In case anyone is interested (!) i'm having
B- Atkins Day break bar
L- Crab stick, avocado and rocket salad with pine nuts
D- Meatloaf with cauli mash and mange tout

Bring on the day and the water Grin

Cluckingmad · 04/04/2012 10:33

Hi can I join please I am on day 3 and have lost 3lbs already Shock, I know its all water but still! I dont have a particular book but I am following Akins phase 1 and have done alot of reseach using the web, so I think I understand this way of eating. I have a rotten cold at the moment and would usually be stuffing my face full of toast but I haven't had any carb cravings yet.
I was following weight watchers and had lost 21lbs but I was always hungary and had not lost any weight for the last 2 months. I am so excited that I have found a diet which I can lose weight without going hungary Smile.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 04/04/2012 10:53

hi clucking

I weighed myself this morning and I am back to what I was before my weekend away! so very chuffed, keeping drinking water which I am sure has helped.

had chorizo, celery and almond nut butter this morning for breakfast. I LOVE almond nut butter and Ocado have a buy 3 cheapest free, so it works out quite cheap.

Happy WI Wednesday for everyone weighing today. Grin

flipflopflap · 04/04/2012 11:08

Hello, I haven't posted in here in a while. I'm still LCing but trying to get back into ketosis this week after a few sneaky glasses of wine this weekend threw me out. I had a lovely day with friends though so don't regret it!

I made a gorgeous savory cheesecake last week for lunch, but all my family came and pinched it all as they said it was so good. If anyone wants the recipe let me know and I'll post it here.

PostBellumBugsy · 04/04/2012 11:10

Like the sound of the savoury cheesecake - yes please to the recipe!

kandinskysgirl · 04/04/2012 12:19

Hi all..

I haven't posted for a while but have been reading. I am sticking to this WOE but am stalling at 12.3/4 and have been for a few weeks now.

I do feel better on it and not so bloated but I am started to get slightly disheartened now. I have just started Shredding too so hopefully this will help.

Any reasons for the stalling? I drink copious amounts of water and I think I am doing everything else o.k. Any hints?

PostBellumBugsy · 04/04/2012 12:23

How do your clothes feel kandinsky? If they are feeling looser, you are probably still changing your body. If you have started shredding, you may be increasing muscle & that weighs more than fat. How is the fat content? It is easy to end up being high protein & low fat & that can make you stall. Don't get disheartened. If you feel better, then just keep going - you won't stall forever.

BIWI · 04/04/2012 12:30

Are you sure you're not victim of 'carb creep'?

Why not list your last few days' worth of menus (as well as what you've been drinking, to see if we can spot anything that might help you?

kandinskysgirl · 04/04/2012 12:48

Ok I tend to have

3 eggs scrambled with some ham and half a chopped tomato for brekkie with mayo.

Ham salad for lunch (lettuce/ham/cucumber the other half of the tomato and mayo)

Dinner is cooked chicken with broccoli and green beans.

I half pint glasses of water and drink about two of those an hour whilst I am awake..I don't drink tea/coffee.

Sometimes some cheese as a snack but we have run out of that so haven't had any for a few days.

The menu doesn't really change from that (bit bored really).

kandinskysgirl · 04/04/2012 12:50

That's *have not half.

My clothes don't seem that lose really...DP says I look thinner but I can't see it and think he is just being nice.

flipflopflap · 04/04/2012 13:08

Savory Cheesecake recipe.

600g Cream Cheese
200g Grated mature cheddar cheese
4 eggs
Salt & Pepper
Chopped walnuts, about a handful
Small wedge Blue Cheese (I used about 75g)

Mix the Ricotta and Cream Cheese together until smooth then add the grated cheese and seasoning. Add the eggs one at a time whisking the mixture as you add them. Add to cheesecake tin and bake on 150 for 20 mins. Take it out the oven and scatter the walnuts and blue cheese over the top and cook for another 40 minutes.

It's lovely both warm and cold but makes quite a lot! I would probably try and half the recipe next time. I gave half to my Mum and ate the rest for lunches with salad.

PostBellumBugsy · 04/04/2012 13:15

Flipflop- sounds so scrummy. How much ricotta?

BIWI · 04/04/2012 13:28

kandinsky - I would try upping the fat content of your meals if I were you.

Go for a fattier meat for dinner (pork belly would be a great one to have), and make sure you are using butter (or cream if dairy is OK for you) on your veg.

Otherwise, boredom aside Grin, I can't see much wrong with it.

How much water per day would you say you're drinking?

BIWI · 04/04/2012 13:29

Oh, and are you putting an oil-based dressing on your salads?

PostBellumBugsy · 04/04/2012 13:34

Kandinsky, agree with BIWI, add a bit more fat - particularly with your dinner, as chicken has virtually no fat in it at all.
I stall if I don't keep it fairly high fat.

kandinskysgirl · 04/04/2012 13:37

I don't tend to put any dressing on my salad, I could try that. Dairy is fine for me so I could try some cream in things. I think that I just don't really know what else to cook so I need to look into that.

DP just bought some Pate home so I had some of that in lettuce..that should be ok too right?

Um...water..pints and pints of it...infact I have been worrying it might be too much, but I drank a lot before starting to low-carb and at the moment I always seem to have a dry mouth so I would say at least 10 pints which is 8.5 liters...sounds a lot.

BIWI · 04/04/2012 13:58

10 pt (UK) = 5.68261 L - not quite so much as your conversion! But sounds like plenty.

You definitely need to put a dressing on your salad - if you're not doing that then you are essentially eating a low carb and low fat diet, which won't work for you in the long run.

If dairy is fine for you, put butter on your veg, and make cream-based sauces for things.

Cook in plenty of olive oil and eat fattier meats (or fish).

QueenStromba · 04/04/2012 14:02

You shouldn't cook with olive oil because it's not stable at high heats so forms trans fats. Lard, ghee, butter and coconut oil are much better options.

OP posts:
BIWI · 04/04/2012 14:03

OK - but principle is still the same - more fat!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/04/2012 14:14

I didn't know that you shouldn't cook with olive oil. I use coconut oil sometimes so will stick to that.

Lost 3lbs since yesterday, so down to 10.10. This is a strange old diet. I am being very good to correct the CRIMES of the weekend.

Still mainlining the macadamia nuts. They are so filling and delicious. I am also going to give that savoury cheesecake a go - yum.

Really fancy some fish so am going to have sole florentine for dinner (spinach wilted with water from the kettle, put in a gratin dish, sole fillets over the top, cover with cream and parmesan) or mexican eggs (very hot chilli with eggs cracked in and bakes, served with loads of jalapenos).

Hopefully I will lose the rest of the 3lbs by this weekend. If not - well it's my own fault. Onwards and upwards though.

flipflopflap · 04/04/2012 15:10

Sorry PostBellum I altered the recipe for LCing, but that bit slipped past me. You don't use any in my version, just Cream Cheese. Smile

PostBellumBugsy · 04/04/2012 15:22

Thanks flipflop - I can't wait to give it a go. Already thoughts for things to go with it are bubbling up in my mind!
