Run Fat Bitch Run

I bought this book as I'm *a fat bitch
*lazy
*not happy about it
*easily manipulated by popular media

I read most of it last night and went for my first trot/jog this morning. Really proud of myself but annoyed that I can't tell anyone what I did this am.

Is anyone else a fat bitch?

What a horrid title. You really bought a book called that? And call yourself a fat bitch?

OhChristFENTON · 02/03/2012 15:31

I realise there is such a book but really,

Is anyone else a fat bitch?

What do you honestly expect people to say to that?

Grin Grin Grin

shrinkingnora · 02/03/2012 15:31

By coincidence a man in a white van shouted that exact thing to me once while I was going for a run. Luckily the endorphins stopped me killing him reacting.

FunnysInTheGarden · 02/03/2012 15:33

what a vile title. There's a load of us novice runners on the Couch to 5K thread and we are much nicer to ourselves Grin Come and join if you like

pixiestix · 02/03/2012 15:35

That really is a nasty title. You paid money for that?

mamalovesmojitos · 02/03/2012 15:38

Deliberately provocative title which makes me feel uncomfortable but I've heard great things about the book. Well done on your run.

VeryStressedMum · 02/03/2012 18:58

Well done on your run, who cares what it's called if it made you run. That means you're on your way to being fitter and healthier.
I was a fat bitch but not anymore, I lost weight and now I run too so I am now slim bitch and plan to stay that way Grin

VeryStressedMum · 02/03/2012 18:59

Btw why can't you tell anyone what you did this morning?

chunkythighs · 02/03/2012 20:51

Jeez relax not everything is a feminist issue. The reason for the title is what the little voice in her head that made the author run and be fit....

very thanks ;-)

I can't tell anyone because at the moment I'm just running-I've yet to be a runner. I have to want to run before I can declare myself a runner.

Dh runs but he hates running - sees it as a necessary evil - but I'd still call him a runner!

Anyways - good luck with the whole running thing, I started running 5 years ago and I love it....never was much good at sport or very fit but running was something I could do at my own pace...it's a tad embarrassing to begin with but people very quickly get used to the idea that you run and start talking about something else instead.

Good luck Smile

learningtofly · 03/03/2012 07:25

Isn't it a play on words from the film run fat boy run?

Op I started running in January with my sis. I've never been a runner, preferring team games and the gym but can't afford a membership or the time anymore.

we entered a 10k because I need a goal otherwise I find all the excuses under the sun to cop out and for the first few weeks it was tough. But its working. I've lost inches, weight and dare I say it I'm actually starting to enjoy it! Up to 6k now.

Good luck

MrsCampbellBlack · 03/03/2012 07:26

Loving this book too and has got me out - have done 2 runs so far and am contemplating going out this morning but its very rainy . . . [weak]

Chubfuddler · 03/03/2012 07:27

I think the word bitch is a feminist issue actually. If its a play on run fat boy run why isn't the title run fat girl run? Vile.

Goandplay · 03/03/2012 07:31

I read the book. I feel like I can do this for once. I've missed my window to run the last few days... Need to get going.

I really liked the book - found the advice positive.

learningtofly · 03/03/2012 07:38

Dunno, its a fair point

pixiestix · 03/03/2012 11:20

It doesn't have to be a feminist issue to be a vile title. If it was aimed at men and called "Run, you fat cunt" it would be equally vile. You are the one bringing feminism into the debate OP.

chunkythighs · 03/03/2012 16:14

pixie I read the book, I found it helpful and supportive. I wondered if there were any other people out there who felt the same and wanted to discuss it. I really didn't get offended by the title, maybe because I call myself a fat bitch some days. This book discusses how to turn that negativity into doing something positive.

If you find that vile-fair enough, but I don't. Different strokes and that.....

I can't believe you are surprised people are offended/repulsed by your thread title and the title of the book.

Didn't you know that it is offensive to refer to a woman as a bitch?

Where have you been living?

chunkythighs · 03/03/2012 17:37

Thanks beer I did my second this morning Smile. I will never make it look good but I just want to get fit and smaller.

bibbity I don't call other women bitches, the bitch referred in the title is the author herself. I've no doubt the point of the title was to cause a stir but the book is very good at pushing you out the door and getting you moving. Ok I lost two stone but I need to lose another -it annoys me that I have shelved my motivation and yea I look in the mirror and call myself a fat bitch. I also call myself lazy and greedy. Still, I never call other people those names. I'm not harming anyone by calling myself a fat bitch. I really like the books message. It's working for me so I don't find the title offensive.
